Slow starting. At times it felt too wordy. Were different areas and surroundings detailed? Yes. There was some good research that went on. Still for me, it felt like there was so much of it that it took away from the story. I found myself starting to skip through parts of that. I hate to say that because the author had to have done a lot of work in that area. But it did start to get better for me about half way through (maybe a bit more than half). Then things did begin to speed up action wise and relationship wise.
