It was sweet, charming and a clean story.  BUT, it just didn't do it for me.  It also felt like it wasn't really that deep either.  It felt kind of shallow and didn't really pull me in.
I've noticed that about this author's books. That I either really liked her stories or felt lukewarm about others.  Even though this one fell into the lukewarm category for me, at least it did have a H.E.A.

I have to admit to mixed feelings on this book.
I did like both Olivia and Jarvis and their long history of knowing each other.  But there were times that I just felt like the story between them stalled.  Of course, I know that Jarvis was trying to protect Olivia and she was seeing him through the lens of a brother like affection.   That was well done although it didn't pull me in as much as I had hoped.
The Shadows added the dimensions of danger as did the enemy who has been after Jarvis for years.  Are they the same people or is there another enemy?  Some questions are answered about the Shadows but there was also a door or two left open.  The one door involves Hades and I'm sure leads to another book.

** Book Review- Immortally Yours - (Argeneau Novel #26) by Lynsay Sands

Unless he wants to lose her forever, he’ll have to rethink everything he once believed about love and destiny as well as confront an enemy who’s terrifyingly close.  AMAZON LINK

What a really good story this was.  It had all the emotional challenges that Scotty and Beth could come up with.  They stumbled their way through their relationship v.s. "non-relationship."  They were like two confused teenagers.  And for such an ole guy, Scotty had a lot of growing up to do.  He was mighty confused when it came to his feelings about Beth.   Beth wasn't quite so confused, she figured that he hated her.

The story had a lot of depth and plenty of danger to Beth and anyone around her. It kept me involved all the way through.   The culprit was quite a surprise as was the reason for the hate on that they had for her.

On a side note:  Clueless Donny was fun mainly because he was funny, without meaning to be. He was a novice hunter and made me smile a time or two.

I read this book through Hoopla.

It begins in a dramatic way and also has a dramatic ending too. I liked how quick it was to feel some of what Emmy was feeling as she is being hunted. It pulled me in right away. It was really clear right away that US Marshall Dalton Silva  was one of the good guys. That made for a nice start.  My mantra throughout the whole book though, was "please don't turn out to be a bad guy.".

The world building in this story was detailed and excellent. The author made it really easy for the reader to see and feel like they were at that ranch.

I can't end this without saying how much I liked both Dwight and Emmy.  There wasn't one thing to not like about them.

The bonus story." Wish upon a Cowboy" was also a surprise and quite good. The emotions and all the feels were there.  It was quite a full story for being a shorter one too.

** Book Review- The Wright Brother (Wright series Book 1) by K.A. Linde

 Book Cover

A billionaire romance stand alone from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

I'd dated his brother.

He didn’t remember and I wish I could forget.

I may have sworn off the Wright family a long time ago. But when I returned home, Jensen Wright crashed into my life with the confidence of a billionaire CEO and the sex appeal of a god. Even I couldn’t resist our charged chemistry, or the way he fit into my life like a missing puzzle piece.

Too bad he’d forgotten the one thing that could destroy us.

Because Jensen Wright doesn’t share. Not with anyone. And if his brother finds out, this could all go down in flames.

When it all was said and done, was he the Wright brother?   AMAZON LINK

4 STARS

This story turned out to be even better than I was expecting. It was a full story with depth and emotions.  If dysfunction had a family name, it would probably be the Wright family. Because wow, are they messed up.  Really wealthy but also really messed up too ! Jensen  may be in the man in charge of the business but he's also in charge of some major secrets too.  And of course you just know that they are going to come out one by one at the WORST possible moments.  And they cause a lot of twists and turns in the story.

Emery was a hoot especially when she gets around her BFF, Heidi.  The two of them together is like spontaneous combustion, in the funniest ways.

Some parts were a little predictable but events leading up to the end weren't.

I received a free copy of this book and these are my honest thoughts about it.

* Book Review- Married to the Playboy by Toni Denise

Kristen likes her life, but she’s not in love with it. She knows there’s something more out there for her but isn’t sure where to look or even if it will make her happy. Kristen is beautiful, intelligent, and everything he has ever wanted. But when he inadvertently hurts her friend’s feelings, Kristen wants nothing to do with him and his playboy ways.
When a fellow teacher backs out of a school fundraising event, Kristen is forced to pull off the biggest event of the year on her own. A friend announces that Mike and Kristen are getting married in front of the town's biggest gossips and another teacher and they must come up with a way out of it, or make a go of things. Mike sees it as an opportunity to make amends and finally win her over, but is the second-grade teacher ready to trust the Army veteran and his past indiscretions?

4 STARS

For me, this was an enjoyable, fun story.  Even though Kristen needed to learn how to say the word, "no" and not keep getting roped into stuff.

Both Mike and Kristen were good people with Mike having a bit of an undeserved reputation.  Sure he liked women and had dated quite a bit but he always played fair.  Something that the gossips hadn't gotten right. A main part of that gossip circle is 3 old women who all together are called, "The Pillars".   They make for some funny times.

It does end up being a good thing when Beth throws the school event into Kristen's lap with no warning and little time.  And Beth was one nasty piece of entitled work. She's someone you love to hate.  So is Mike's mother Sharon, who is in cahoots with Beth.

The story comes to a good ending although I was hoping for more things to happen to Beth because of her shenanigans.

But he cannot deny the heated sparks between the two of them, and when a vicious threat from Ness’s past appears, he’ll do anything—including facing the past—to gain the future he’d never imagined. A future with Ness.   AMAZON LINK

5+ STARS

Intense, unpredictable are only the beginning of what I can say about this book.

The things that Ness has endured is both wild and so unfair not to mention painful.  Talen has had his share of his own pain and violence.  But it only makes these main characters even more interesting. So does their attraction that develops between them.  No matter how hard they fight against it especially Talen. He has no memories of tenderness and sees no need for it. He has one close mate that he trusts.  Declan has provided himself over and over through time.

So many secrets chasing these two as well as some pretty dangerous enemies; both known and a few unknown.  Think you got it all figured out?  Don't be too sure because there is a wowser of a surprise that I didn't see coming.  Loved that !

I finished the story with a sigh of relief and a smile on my face.

* Book Review- The Billionaire's Bodyguard by MacKenzie Stowe

I hadn’t seen or heard from him in six-years. Until he walked into my office and shattered my world

Eva:

I had a good life, a meaningful life, full of order and purpose.

The last thing I needed was a stalker ruining it all.

I certainly didn’t need the nuisance of having a bodyguard.

Not in the form of the man who broke my heart six years ago.

Now he’s in my space, in my life, and turning my world upside down.

I fell for him once and it almost destroyed me.

There is no way I’m going to fall for him again.

Sean:

Six years ago, I walked out on the woman I loved to save her.

Now I am back in New York City and she needs my help.

I will do whatever I have to do to keep Eva Moore safe.

Even pushing my own needs and desires for her aside.

Yet, the more I am with her, the more I know I need her in my life.

But she doesn’t want to have anything to do with me.

How far will I have to go to convince her to give me a second chance?

3 Stars

The Billionaire’s Bodyguard is a second chance office romance set in New York City. It has plenty of heat and a guaranteed HEA with no cheating or cliffhangers.

I really did want to like this story more than I actually did. It just didn't pull me in.  I tried because the main characters were good.  But my problem with it was that it was so slow for my taste.  And it just seemed like they kept going over the same ground over and over.  The regrets and the lost time that they went through because Sean made a decision for them both.   One that she had no input into at all.

I will give the author credit though was the surprise twist when it comes to who her stalker was and the why of it.   Actually there was two surprises that I didn't see coming.

It all concludes with a H.E.A. which I always do like.

**BOOK REVIEW- Midnight Abduction (Tactical Crime Division) by Nichole Severn

When Benning Reeves’s twins are kidnapped, the frantic father knows who can help: the Tactical Crime Division and Ana Ramirez. Even though Ana once shattered Benning’s heart, the special agent is the only one he can trust. But Ana is still tormented by the unresolved case that brought them together years before—a case somehow entangled with Benning’s children. It’s up to the TCD and Ana to discover why…before it’s too late.  AMAZON LINK

4.5 Stars

Outstanding, is what it was.  The unpredictable excitement never let up !  I just finished reading and I'm still waiting for my nerves to settle down.
Benning and Ana make for some intense, really interesting main characters.  And so is the drama between the two of them.  Ana has shut out people because of her guilt over the young woman that she didn't save years ago.  Any emotions about good people she has just pushed down and refuses to engage personally.  Even with her own family. Benning has never really got over Ana just walking out without a word, years ago.  He moved on but he didn't forget.
One thing I did feel might have been a bit overdone was the re-hashing of the regrets of both M.C's over the past.   It was well done but could have been pulled back a bit.
The twins, Own and Olivia were really put through the mill.  But so is Benning and Ana.  The violence, and the battles are very much a part of the story.  As are the twists and turns and surprises that continue all the way to the end.
Speaking of the end, I did like how it finished.

I read a free copy of this book .  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Together they will defy their perilous fate, for the sake of all-consuming love.  AMAZON LINK

 5 STARS

What a little gem this turned out to be.  Wow.  Surprises on so many levels.  Sebastian was just as much as a infamous scoundrel as advertised.  But then he hadn't met Evie yet.  She might not have seemed like a force though. So many people underestimated her because of her shyness and stammer.  Mistake.  BIG Mistake ! Her brutal relatives thought it would be easy to break her to what they wanted.  And soon discovered her backbone of steel.  I really liked that she also had such a heart of compassion too.

Sebastian wasn't used to anyone caring about him or looking to his needs so he rakishly took care of his own.  It was heartwarming to see him care for Evie in small ways beginning with their run to Gretna Green.  Small kindnesses started to come out of him almost against his embarrassed will.  I loved that.

The other women in the Wallflower group made me smile as they were so concerned for Evie possibly having been forced to marry.  Someone else was interest was Cam Rohan.  For years he had been such a help to Evie's father at the gambling den.  I was hoping to get more of this his story.  Not sure if he got one later on.

Twists, turns, dangerous actions keep things on the fast tract. All well written but I don't want to say too much to ruin the surprises. Surprises happen with the "romance" between the two marriage of convenience people.  Hot, detailed scenes in the bedroom (and elsewhere) do happen.  They ARE married after all.

I liked how it ended with a H.E.A. all their style.

** BOOK REVIEW- He Said Never (The Lost Corisis, 2) by Ruth Cardello

 General Fiction (Adult), Romance

Description

From New York Times bestselling author Ruth Cardello comes another burning Corisi romance about family crises, dark secrets, and unforeseen love.

Riley doesn’t want her mom to know that she’s been seeing her newly discovered family, the Corisi clan. Riley’s biological father made her mother’s life hell, and even though he’s dead, her fear of anyone who shares his last name lives on.

After attending two funerals, Gavin’s father has decided Gavin needs a wife and children to be happy. Rather than inheriting his family’s company, Gavin now must earn his way back into his father’s good graces by producing a fiancée.

Everything with Riley would have gone easier if he had just lied to her about his meeting with her brother Dominic. The truth would have hurt her, and that was the last thing he wanted.

He never wanted a relationship, but when he is forced to choose between business or a future with her, he realizes he’ll choose her every time.  AMAZON LINK

5 STARS

What a great, entertaining sometimes emotional story this turned out to be.  Even how the two main character meet was fun.  It had more humor to it than I was expecting.  But without feeling like slapstick. It definitely made me smile more than once.  Of course, it didn't go very far into that until a little bit further in the story.

Riley and Gavin are wildly attracted to each other but Riley is quick to say "no" to everything Gavin comes up with.  It stems from Gavin misunderstanding what Riley was about.  And that was just the start.  Riley also feels that she doesn't have the time for a player.  She has enough to deal with...family stuff.  Her brother Dominic is a bit of a wild card for Riley.  He has talked her into a few things to protect her that's she's not totally comfortable with.  A ritzy, expensive apartment, and Mr. Tuttle who is her driver, just to name a few.   All done to increase her protection.  Mr. Tuttle is quite interesting all on his own.  Not only is he her driver but he also knows how to protect her.

Gavin has some unexpected family stuff of his own to deal with.  It came at left field at him. His father is acting weird to his way of thinking.  Is he okay or is he losing it?  That takes a while to get to the truth.

Riley has more discovered family than you can shake a stick at but I loved it.  Also her best friend Teagan who shows up just a bit in the story.

All in all, it was just something that I enjoyed all the way through.

I liked how the reason for the title is shown several different times in the story.  It fit so perfectly.

**Book Review- Defy Not the Heart (Shefford's Knights Book 1) by Johanna Lindsey

The first book in the Shefford series from #1 New York Times bestselling author of historical romance, Johanna Lindsey.

Reina seethes with rage over her fate: taken captive by the knight Ranulf -- a golden giant of a man -- who has pledged to deliver her to the nuptial bed of the despised Lord Rothwell. She will never accept such bondage -- and Reina offers herself to her kidnapped instead, offering to make Ranulf a great lord...if he agrees to wed her.

But the brave knight desires much more than a marriage of convenience from this proud, headstrong lady who treats him with scorn yet makes his blood run hotter than liquid fire. She must come to him of her own free will -- or Ranulf will take her. For the passion that consumes them both cannot long be denied -- even though gravest peril surely awaits them on the heart's trail to a destines and turbulent love.   AMAZON LINK

The beginning of this story was a surprise.  There was quite a clever plan at work that I didn't see coming at first.

What a big difference and some similarities between Reina and Ranulf.   Starting with him being a "giant" and her a tiny, petite woman.  But each in their own way are warriors.  It's obvious with Ranulf with his physical size and skills.  And I got a big kick out of his calling her the little general.  She's fierce and has been in charge for some time without really desiring to  be.  But she was decisive and commanding, so when she meets up with Ranulf she earns that title.

Ranulf is a knight but he has no idea of knightly manners as Reina is quick to point out.  More than once.  He has no desire to be around Ladies and despises them.  As his story comes out it's easy to see that he as  some solid reasons for those feelings.  And he has bitterness from the way he was rejected by his father for being a bastard.  And how harshly he has been raised by others.  There was no tenderness and no mercy given to him.  He is an excellent warrior with men who are loyal and serve him willingly.  And we get to see how several add to the story including his right hand man, Walter.  Ranulf has affection for his cat, Lady Ella and that was the only real chink in his armor.  He was rough with Reina from the very beginning and it didn't win him any points.

I really enjoyed this whole book with both the battles between the main characters and the battles with others.  The sparks that flew between Ranulf and Reina were epic and often funny.

The ending of the story was good and enjoyable.

I liked that some justice has also been meted out to several people who richly deserved it.

I read this book through Hoopla.

Book Review- Infamous (Rebels of the Ton 3) by Minerva Spencer

Description

Critically acclaimed author Minerva Spencer brings a rebellious spirit to the Regency with her Rebel of the Ton series focused on how the youth of that era subvert the social expectations and mores of the day in order to carve their own paths in life. This book was really  hard for me to rate.   It started out with me not liking it for quite a while.  I often struggled with it. Probably because I HATE bullies and bullying.  Then about half way through I found myself enjoying at least some of it.  Don't get me wrong, I could see that the story was well written , had depth and a WHOLE  lot of information about insects.  Sorry that is not my thing.
The people had depth to them and plenty of emotions and not just the main characters.  And I did like unusual Richard.  Celia grew on me.  Probably because she also grew up.

The story does come to really good conclusion with a good Epilogue. that I did enjoy.
The only thing I would have liked to have seen happen to Sebastien was more than a couple of surprising hits to the jaw.  Call me bloodthirsty but the people around him needed a lot more justice than that.

I received this novel as an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and these are my honest opinions about this book.

Emotional story with sweetness and challenges.  Hazel is encouraged by her loving adoptive mother and father to show up for the reading of the will. Now she feels like she's caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to her decision.  She is resentful but weighs the pro's and con's.  Looking for anything that would benefit her daughter Grace.

Hazel's sister Frankie and husband Garrett have 3 young sons.  One of them, Noah added a lot of smiles to the story.  Jesse's daughter Charlie was also a sweetie.

It was a plus that Frankie has her point of view in the story to add to both Hazel and Jesse's. I enjoyed that; it's not something that you always get.

Maple Bay was quite the town with some really good people. They were were welcoming, interesting and added SO much to the story.

I liked how the story ended with unique solving of some of the challenges and unique H.E.A.'s.

What a great story.  I fell in love with both Hildy and Tobias.  What great main characters with really good depth and emotions.

Tobias  has a partner Xander Macauley (Mac) who is also the closest friend he has ever had. They have known each other since very young and some pretty rough stuff.  Helping each other to survive and prosper.  Mac is quite the character himself and he has a strong hatred for anything "society".  Tobias is actually quite brilliant and seems to have a Midas like touch.  There has been a lot of hard work behind that touch.

Hildy has her own close friends although they aren't great in number.  Tobias is outside of society because of his birth and Hildy is just barely accepted by the ton.  Some though have turned their backs on her when she was at public gatherings.  In her own way she is trying to survive but also help other women at the same time.  Even though she has been nicknamed "The Mad Matchmaker."

I loved how Tobias called Hildegarde, "Hildy, girl."    He's given a nickname as well, "The Rogue King."

There is plenty of action and unpredictable surprises that keep this story interesting and on the edge of the seat at times.

The best twist comes toward the end of the story with a wonderful Epilogue.  I'm keeping this story so that I can re-read it again later.

By the way, the beautiful eBook cover caused me to stop and read the book information and together it all caught my interest.

Book Review- The Investigator (Kisses and Crimes #2) by Natalie Wrye/ HOOPLA

Private investigations is a hard game. Luckily, I'm harder.

But when the sexiest woman to ever uphold the law meets me (the man who makes up his own), what did we expect?

The answer: Not love.

I learned long ago to create my own rules in the business of private investigation.

In short? Do the burning. Never get burned.

Until she shows up again in the middle of my case.

Penelope Castalano. My best friend's attorney. Back in my city and breaking the only deal we've ever made.

I know I should stay away from her sassy mouth, her curvy lithe figure; I do.

But when we're both caught in a government cover-up that compromises everything I care for, I soon learn a new rule:

Certain scandals never die.

Only their victims do.

And I'd better make damn sure Penelope and I aren't next...

Nope.  I couldn't and didn't finish this book.  I barely made it through Chapter one.  So much detailed sex, talk of sex, and observing it too.  I was hoping for so much more to the story.  But by the time I got through that far..I was done.  By that time I didn't even care anymore.

So of course I didn't post on Amazon or Goodreads .  Which was a shame because the first book by this author wasn't like this.  And I liked that one.

**BOOK REVIEW- A Reckless Match (Ruthless Rivals Book 1) by Kate Bateman

Historical Fiction, Romance

Meet the Davies and Montgomery families - two households locked in an ancient feud, destined to be on opposing sides forever. Until now...

CAN LIFELONG HATE

Madeline Montgomery grew up despising––and secretly loving––the roguish Gryffud “Gryff” Davies. Their families have been bitter rivals for hundreds of years, but even if her feelings once crossed the line between love and hate, she’s certain Gryff never felt the same. Now, she’s too busy saving her family from ruin to think about Gryff and the other “devilish” Davies siblings. Since he’s off being scandalous in London, it’s not like she’ll ever see him again...

TURN TO TRUE LOVE

As the new Earl of Powys, Gryff Davies planned on spending his post-war life enjoying the pleasures of London. But when an illegal duel forces him to retreat to his family’s Welsh castle, he realizes the only exciting thing in the dull countryside will be seeing the fiery Maddie Montgomery. Thoughts of his nemesis sustained Gryff throughout the war; but the girl he loved to tease has grown into a gorgeous, headstrong woman – who loathes him just as much as she ever did. Will secret tunnels, dangerous smugglers, and meddling from their feuding families be enough to make Maddie and Gryff realize that their animosity is really attraction...and maybe even love?

A Reckless Match is the first in a new regency romance series by Kate Bateman about two feuding families, and reunited childhood enemies whose hatred turns to love.   AMAZON LINK

4 STARS

The fierce verbal battles between Maddie and Gryff were so much fun.  No matter how Maddie tried to get one over on him, he just seemed to get the upper hand.  She does score a few points here and there but not really that many.

The feud between the two families does make for some interesting times.  As did the required meeting of a representative of both families at the bridge.  And oh, the trouble that Maddie and Gryff get into.  Some innocently and some not so innocently.  There is fire and heat between the two of them for sure.  Gryff finally realizes  how much that he has been looking forward to their "skirmishes".  In fact, remembering had kept him going in the difficult times of war.  I really enjoyed that fact.  And his sense of humor as he baited her to lose her temper.

Maddie's best friend  (and cousin) Harriet is her co-conspirator when it comes to so many parts of her life.  A much quieter one but still a faithful one.  Almost like having a "silent partner."  She has also been quietly mooning over Morgan who is Gryff's brother.  Oh, she would never let anyone ever know but it feels like there is another story there.

There is plenty of action and danger because remember I did say the main characters do find themselves in some trouble.  It's all very well done too.

I like how everything ended and included a good Epilogue.

I also feel that there will be more stories in this series because of the siblings on both sides.  In fact there was a hint or two about at least 2 possible couples.  That should be interesting.

This story was like a interesting but short story.  Although it did have some action with possible interesting people, it was also more  like a taste or a teaser for the full story.  So, I guess it was more of a good start.  But it also left the door open (a cliffhanger of sorts) to the next part of the story.  For me, I would have preferred a full story all at once.

I enjoyed the dual points of views of Maggie and Trent.   This was a good story but it was also slow at times.  Part of that probably had to do with the detailed descriptions of the town and it's people.  Which was well done.  It was a friendly town that stood behind people who lived there.  There was a significant amount of time also having to do with guilt on both of the main characters part.  A bit of that could have easily been toned down a little.  It just seemed like it was re-hashed a little more than I liked.  Although the emotions were written in such a way as to be easily understood.

The supporting "cast" of people were well done and I ended up wanting to know more about Aimee and Clark.  It just felt like Clark was such a mystery and deserves his own story.

The end results of the battles were good and I was happy with the ending.

3.5 STARS

I liked both of the main characters. They were intense and interesting .  Lily was feisty and her sister Shay is even more so.  Shay's fierceness leads to at least one really funny confrontation. They both are "bold to the bone."  Even if Lily has had some of her courage dimmed somewhat.  Her secret has caused her to isolate herself to a certain degree.  Only a few people know what happened to her and that's how she wanted to keep it.  The secondary people are good ones and most care about keeping her safe.

It didn't take long to figure out Levi's secret although it did unfold well in the story.  Levi is solidly attracted to Lily from the first and Lily doesn't take long to be attracted too.  She does fight it though because her life is a dangerous mess.  I will say that it felt that there was a bit too much repetition about the fact that Levi didn't know how to be in a relationship.  Of course Lily admits the same.  Still too much time spent on that.  Also there is a ton of sex in the story.  Well done but more than I generally like.  But there is also tenderness and protectiveness as well, so that helps.

When the action kicks it, things do get interesting and lead to a pretty good ending.
