BOOK REVIEW- How to Tame a Wild Rogue (The Palace of Rogues #6) by Julie Anne Long

General Fiction (Adult) | Historical Fiction | Romance
USA Today bestselling author Julie Anne Long’s thrilling new romance in the Palace of Rogues series, an infamous privateer’s limits are put to the test when he’s trapped during a raging tempest wiBearcats are noted for smelling like which food?th a prickly female at the Grand Palace on the Thames.

He clawed his way up from the gutters of St. Giles to the top of a shadowy empire. Feared and fearsome, battered and brilliant, nothing shocks Lorcan St. Leger—not even the discovery of an aristocratic woman escaping out a window near the London docks on the eve of the storm of the decade. They find shelter at a boarding house called the Grand Palace on the Thames—only to find greater dangers await inside.

Desperate, destitute, and jilted, Lady Daphne Worth knows the clock is ticking on her last chance to save herself and her family: an offer of a loveless marriage. But while the storm rages and roads flood, she and the rogue who rescued her must pose as husband and wife in order to share the only available suite.

Crackling enmity gives way to incendiary desire—and certain heartbreak: Lorcan is everything she never dreamed she’d wanted, but he can never be what she needs. But risk is child’s play to St. Leger. And if the stakes are a lifetime of loving and being loved by Daphne, he’ll move any mountain, confront any old nemesis, to turn “never” into forever.

This story caused some mix feelings for me. It had an interesting start.  Then, for me it dragged down a bit with the prolonged scenes of Daphne and Lorcan just trying to get a room out of the storm. The Grand Palace on The Thames turned out to be quite the surprise.  The people  that also sheltered from the storm with Daphne and Lorcan were a really odd bunch of people.  From the two women who owned and ran the place to their unusual guests.  To be honest at first I really wasn't into that part much. But after awhile it began to slowly grow on me to MY surprise.  I didn't have that same problem with Daphne and Lorcan though.  Their interactions held mysteries, humor and some clever, funny "battle" like conversations.  They come from such different worlds but they have each survived them and in some ways Lorcan has thrived.  Daphne has had such heavy weights of responsibility since her mother died when she was eleven.  A little girl having to solve adult problems while being so under valued.  That has continued through her life until now she was faced with even more unpleasantness.  Lorca was nine when he was basically cast to the streets trying to survive.  I liked both of them so much and that increased with time. They both deserved so much more when it comes to happiness.

Something that I could have done with a bit less was how it got kind of wordy at times. Especially with big words like expostulating, approbation and mordantly, to name a few. I'm pretty well read but still had to look up a few of the words to get their true meaning.  I found that interrupted the flow of the story and that was irritating to me.  I was happier when that started to level off. Having said all of that I do have to give the author points for really good world-building. As the story went on I began to like it more and more.

I wondered how on earth any romance between Lorcan and  Daphne could work out.  I enjoyed how love finally won but also some justice was handed out.  And that followed into the good Epilogue with another surprise stroke of justice.  That one made me smile.

PRIME READING- BOOK REVIEW- The Wilder Widows (: A Hilarious and Heartwarming Adventure) by Katherine Hastings

Four Widows. Four Wishes. One Wild Adventure.

When Sylvie’s husband passed away, she’d barely hung her black dress back in the closet when three widows on Wilder Lane showed up on her doorstep. Who had time to properly mourn when an adventure spanning the globe awaited her?

After putting their own needs on the back burner to raise their families, Sylvie, Doris, Alice, and Marge struggle to find purpose now that their children are grown, and their husbands are gone. Loneliness pushes them together while they knit away the rest of their days. Then one night, a whiskey-filled pact catapults these ladies onto the adventure of a lifetime.

Each widow gets one wish, one wild adventure, she’s dreamed of doing her whole life. With their wishes tucked away on notes inside their knitting basket, they pull them out, one at a time, vowing to do whatever it takes to help each other fulfill their wildest desires.

Hilarity ensues as these four diverse women stretch their boundaries to go where no widows have gone before. They stare death in the face, have cops hot on their tail, and shed away the responsibilities they’ve shouldered their whole lives. The Wilder Widows soon find out their lives aren’t over... in fact, in this second act, their lives are just beginning.

If you're looking for a feel-good book full of laughs, scroll up and one-click your copy now!

Please note, the author had no control over what the Wilder Widows said and did, and was only a spectator of their journey as she scrambled to write it down. They can get a bit mouthy at times, so the author apologizes if any of the widows say or do anything to offend you.

Sad to say, I just couldn't finish this book.  Sad because the idea itself was a good one.    I just couldn't get into it even though I did try.  I only got about 31 % on my kindle.   It just wasn't my cup of tea.
To be fair to the author I won't be leaving a review on Amazon simply because I DIDN'T finish it.

BOOK REVIEW- Chilly Comforts and Disasters (# 9 of the Raina Sun Mystery series) by Anne R. Tan

Raina Sun is newly married and enjoying her role as the police station's unofficial pastry chef. When her husband bought a dilapidated old house on a steal, they are thrown into a whirlwind of construction activities with well-meaning relatives coming into town, permit issues, and a dead body behind the drywall of the living room.

This was another enjoyable story in this series. Raina finds herself in the middle of things, murder things again.  Any one of the stories that has Po-Po in it is something that I want to read because she is quite the colorful person.
There is plenty of secrets and action in this story which keeps things jumping.
Detective Sokol makes a SERIOUS misstep when it comes to Raina and her husband Matthew.  One that is definitely going to bite him in the butt.  It doesn't help his case that he is so incredible inept at his job.
I liked how the story ended...for now because you know there will be more shenanigans ahead.  Count me in.

BOOK REVIEW- Hero Unbound (Heroes of Oak Creek) by Janie Crouch

 Book Cover

Eva Dempsey is out of options.

She’s made it to Oak Creek, Wyoming with two traumatized dogs, twenty dollars, and a fear of damned near everything.

Things that didn’t make it with her? Her self-esteem, confidence, or any way of supporting herself.

Theo Lindstrom knows how to survive. He proved it as a child when he had to keep himself and sister alive in the wilderness. Now he runs Linear Tactical, the company his adoptive father helped create, and teaches survival skills to others.

So he recognizes the desperation in the eyes of the petite beauty who’s pulled into town, and knows there’s more to her story than she’s letting on.

He normally keeps to himself—for very good reasons—but he can’t this time. Something about Eva draws him in a way he can’t resist, even knowing she’s got secrets. The deadly kind.

When the danger she's running from shows up, Theo’s not going to let her fight it alone.

This is his town.
This is his woman.

And he’ll protect both to his last breath.

This story was way beyond anything that I was expecting.  I'm trying to be careful in what I say though because I don't want to spoil the telling of the story.  Maybe it's enough to say that the danger that she's running from is clever as well as cruel with many dangerous resources.

Eva has been running for some time but nothing seems to help much.  Her two dogs are they only thing that she can cling to and they are also her comfort too.  That relationship was so tender to watch as was her ability to bond with the animals around her. Some of her memories may be fuzzy but she slowly beings to trust Theo as a tenuous friendship develops. Friendship that also leads to some pretty hot sexual encounters.  There's even some mysteries in that area as well though.

Theo is a loner but that doesn't mean he has no friends.  He has a super supportive family, and skilled friends as well.  And the way he interacts with Eva, was SO good.  He might not know right away what is going on with her but he takes the time to try  to figure it out.   Even though the mystery of Eva often has him shaking his head.  I was a bit confused myself right along side of him.

The story is INTENSE with plenty of emotion, as the story continues but so is the ending.  The Epilogue brings everything to a good conclusion.

BOOK REVIEW- A Cold Dark Promise (#8.5 of the Cold Justice series) by Toni Andereson

A Cold Dark Promise takes place during the week leading up to the wedding of former CIA assassin Alex Parker to FBI Agent Mallory Rooney, who first meet in the novel, A Cold Dark Place. Four years ago, Jane Sanders's powerful ex-husband kidnapped their young daughter and Jane hasn't seen her since. Now, she finally has a lead and she knows just the man to help get her daughter back. Trouble is, he's an assassin. And he terrifies her.

Despite his upcoming nuptials, Alex agrees to help, but it doesn't take long for the routine operation to turn complicated-and deadly on a global scale.

Can the former assassin make it home in time to marry the woman he loves, or will his dark past destroy all hope for their future?

4.5 STARS

I was in a rush to read this story after getting pulled into Mallory and Alex's story in the book" A Cold Dark Place".  It so SO good and I liked this one too.  However I can also see that I missed out somewhat by skipping by some of the other stories in this series. It might have also helped me a bit more with all the extra people in the story and THEIR stories. But I do plan to go back and catch up on those parts.  I don't think it will ruin what I know from this book though.

However, this was still a good story with Jane and her troubles. The first book introduced her and it was hard to be warm or sympathetic to her.  BUT this book digs so much deeper into her and shines quite a light on everything ! This woman had hidden so much pain.

You want some unexpected dangers, close calls, romance, then this book is for you. It also comes to a really good ending.

BOOK REVIEW- You Can Die by (A Laurel Snow Thriller # 3)Rebecca Zanetti

Mystery & Thrillers | Romance
Set against the atmospheric snowy backdrop of rural Pacific Northwest, New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti’s edgy, page-turning thriller will have readers guessing until the very end as rising star FBI profiler Laurel Snow navigates her career as a serial killer hunter with her complicated family life. Now she’s in pursuit of a killer with a chillingly bitter M.O. – one that hits far too close to home…

The Blacklist meets The Profiler in this edgy, gripping thriller that’s perfect for of Laura Griffin and Jayne Ann Krentz!

Men are dying in the Pacific Northwest, their bodies found near churches, charities, and counseling centers—each with valentine candy hearts shoved down their throats. They’re good men with families and community ties—or so they seem until Laurel Snow and her team begin to investigate. Then the case takes a shockingly personal turn when the father she’s never met, a former pastor, turns up among the dead.

Now, besides solving her father’s murder, Laurel is on the hunt to discover the truth of his past. Complicating things is Laurel’s troubled half-sister, Abigail, a brilliant sociopath determined to prove that they’ve both inherited their father’s malignant narcissism.

Assisting Laurel is Washington Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers, a dangerous loner whose reliance on gut instinct puts him at odds with Laurel’s coolly analytic approach. But the choice may be moot when the killer hones in on Huck’s own dark secrets—putting him and Laurel squarely in the crosshairs.

Once again this author hit all the marks for me.  I have been following this series and hope to continue.  First off I absolutely adore Laurel.  I can also see that she has grown some, which it comes to letting out her big heart as well as her big brain.  She's even gained some small ground when it comes to interpreting facial expressions and emotions.
Huck is such a great guy, not only skilled in his job but his understanding in how to interact with Laurel just keeps getting better and better.  I so enjoyed the two of them both on their own and together.  The romance was good.
Laurel's team had her back, with no hesitation.  Laurel also cared about them and it wasn't long before so did I. She had Walter and Kate's back as much as she can.  They actually are making an even better team than they were before and before they were pretty darn good.
If you're looking for evil people in this story, there are plenty of those. It caused  Laurel to be ultra busy with more people in her investigations.  But her main focus is on at least 3 investigations at a time on her white board.
Laurel's half sister is back causing even more headaches for Laurel.  She's brilliant, twisted and knows how to use men and others.  It's amazing how easily she comes across to people as vulnerable and lost especially when it came to men.  She used them and then tossed them away and they still tried to come running back to her.
It was amazing to me how many people were so quick to try to sue Laurel.  It was almost amusing although not something that she wasted a lot of time on.
Twists, turns and dangers make for a very full, riveting story.  I like how it ended...for now. Do I want more of Laurel, her team and Huck? You betcha.

BOOK REVIEW-TEXAS BODYGUARD: WESTON ( San Antonio Security #3) by Janie Crouch

A determined bodyguard. A fierce heiress.
And death is just a shot away...

Silent, stealthy and professional, Weston Patterson is always two steps ahead of trouble-until he's hired to bodyguard a woman he never expected to see again.

Someone won't stop until Kayleigh Delacruz is dead. But the feisty heiress is challenging Weston to keep her close as well as safe. Will the suspicions between their different worlds lock them in an endgame impossible to survive?

 AMAZON LINK

This story pulled me in quickly and I think the main characters were the first part of that draw. Weston and his "brothers" of the heart were part of that. But also liked how Weston and Kayleigh knew each other as children and that is the starting point of the story. During their time apart they missed each other but there wasn't too much they could do about it until they met up again.
The danger swirling around Kayleigh and her father are real and they are deadly with an enemy who is ruthless and unwilling to stop. All of this kept the action in the story flowing so well and kept me as a reader involved and wanting to see who and the why of things. And most of all how things work out with Weston and Kayleigh who I liked so much.

This story was of course highly emotional to read and starts out intense and keeps on going that way.   We also get to read the unsub's unbalanced thoughts and some of his ways.  I have to say that although, some of his abuse was pretty creepy.  As well written as it was it goes to the depths that are probably not  something most of us want detailed.

Mallory has had such a connection to her kidnapped twin but also suffers from survivors guilt as well.  I can't say that her grieving mother was much help in that area as driven as she was.

Alex was one huge surprise, one that I enjoyed unwrapping.  Mallory and Alex not "dating" or getting into a relationship was quite the dance.  At least until they catch each other with it's "just sex".  Way to lie to yourself ! They are definitely hot for each other,as we see a whole lot of their bed antics.  It's also not that hard to see the romance that is developing between them.

Put your seat-belt on for a stunning ending !! It has quite the surprises from many sides.  Now "A Cold Dark Promise" is on my TBR pile.  I just might need to take a breath or two before I start that one although it is pulling at me.

"Working on several projects at once isn't really a problem - and often leads to inspiration for right brainers. "
I liked this insight- The solution is to make the most use of your right brain while awakening your left brain to come up with a whole brain approach to getting organized. We organize so we can be spontaneous.
I liked that it was pointed out that the’’ right’’way to organize we could look to the left for tips on how to organize & tweak them with our creative brain to match our own unique circumstances. Making it the meeting of the minds. I was good to see that I had made some progress in this area because some of the hints I had already put in place over the years.
I really liked how the book had a chart that breaks down into a Quick Quiz, where you could focus on certain areas. I looked at them all, skimming through but finding helpful things in all. Also recognized myself in categories that I hadn’t thought of before.
I find it interesting that I had to read this book in chunks because of it’s depth. While I was also typing notes about it, reading another book, oh,and watching T.V. (That falls under one of the categories, Divergent/Easily Distracted) I never thought about that before. This is normal for me.
You're going to have to take your time with book, to study it to get the most benefit from it. I thought it was worth the time and explained so well why trying to organize the way others saw as perfect didn't always work for me. It was like trying to fit a square piece into a round hole.
Overall, I felt like it was a really helpful and doable way to change things in this area. And also hopeful because of all the use-able tips. Some, I have already started to put into practice.

BOOK REVIEW- Cold Pursuit (Ryland & St. Clair #1)by Nancy Mehl

This is a well put together Christian story.  I hope the word "Christian" doesn't put people off though.  The story was SO well done with so much depth.  Both in the main characters, River and Tony and the murderers as well.
I have to admit that this author did a good job when it comes to the creepy factor of  the murders and attempted murders.  Also there are several crimes that are revealed as River and Tony investigate their original assignment.
I enjoyed both River and Tony flaws and all.  It was realistic that there are some physical things that they were dealing with along with so many strong  recovery emotions as well.  Adding River's mother added just one more thing to her already full plate.
Tony has been and continues to be River's best friend and he's been faithful to that friendship. Could there ever be more to that than friendship?  Not sure about that yet.  River is going through a crisis of faith though.  Angry at God for the betrayal of her earthly father.
One thing I am sure of is that there is a satisfying conclusion to at least the assignment that River and Tony took on. They had to peel back the onion to get through the layers of deceit.  However, there is one dangerous stalker who hasn't been caught. Yet.

BOOK REVIEW- His Klutz by Lauren Wood

Unexpectedly, she tripped out of thin air, yes. Thin air. Making the tray of mugs spill onto the employees making them screech from the pain of hot coffee meeting their skin.

She was different.

She was a klutz, and I completely understood what that meant. I knew I had to have her. I wanted to hear her scream my name all night and to squirm beneath me.

But I had rules to follow, to keep my heart safe.

She’s innocently dangerous.

She’s a threat to my rules and my heart.

Her baby blue eyes stared at me with innocence and fear, she awoken a beast from within me.

I was going to have her but I was torn.

Should I follow the rules that has kept my heart safe or succumb to the growing feelings I have for Lily?

It was a duel between safe and secure against love and lust.

I was the bad boy in the office and she was the klutz.

NOT FOUND ON AMAZON SITE

For me, I found this book kind of disappointing. The actual idea was a good one but it just didn't fully deliver.  It felt rushed and kind of shallow but I did finish it.  The wording at times felt odd and at times confusing.  I also had to re-read several paragraphs to get any meaning out of it.

I didn't like Ethan right off the bat, because hey, he's a bully.  Sure, we find out why he's so messed up and he turns some things around so that helped.   I will say Lily was a sweetie who put up with a lot because of her clumsiness.  They do get a happy ending together, so there is that.

I did receive a free copy of this book so that makes me happy because if I'd paid for it I would have been irritated.  Would I give this author another chance?  Maybe.  But not right away.

BOOK REVIEW- Just A Lucky Break-In: A Chinese Cozy Mystery (A Lucy Fong Mystery #2) by Anne R. Tan

Part 2 of the Lucy Fong Mystery series

4 STARS
I'm back into the life of Lucy Fong and enjoying it once again. Nothing beats this quirky town and it's people.  If your expecting things to be normal in this town then you haven't read the book information closely enough.  It definitely comes into the category of a fun read.
I enjoyed what Stella had to say that, "And to quote your foster grandmother- we single ladies gotta make some noise."  That made me smile and really did seem to fit the mantra of PoPo and her lifestyle. One that she was passing onto Stella and Lucy.  Loved that part.  Although PoPo doesn't show up in this book, her influence is still felt.
The story is filled with surprises, some humor and some people with their own agendas. I enjoyed how the story ended..for now.
I see there is a mention of a Lucy Fong book #3 so yes, I will be looking for that one.

BOOK REVIEW- Montana Silence by Josie Jade

Raised in a cult where opinions and freedom in women were not tolerated, Mara Greene narrowly escaped a life as a child bride—one where she would’ve been shared and owned by all the men in the compound.

Her testimony helped put the cult leader in prison, but she’s never truly gotten past the horrors inflicted on her. Her conditioning to keep silent persists even now—despite having found a safe haven at the Resting Warrior Ranch.

Here she’s safe, but still always alone and trapped in her silence.

Liam Anderson is always the first team member to crack a smile or a joke. No one—not even his Navy SEAL brothers—know about his painful past or the truth he hides behind his charming mask.

He’s captivated by fragile Mara and wants to help her heal. Watching her find her voice is the most amazing thing he’s ever known. And it doesn’t take long to realize she’s healing him just as much.

When Mara’s past resurfaces, Liam won’t let her face it alone. He’ll be her personal protector no matter what the cost.

No one is going to steal her voice again.

I just finished this story and am still a little bit stunned.  Because, yes it really was that good and I'm searching for words to explain it.  Emotional is such a little word to describe it ! The way Mara's scary journey into silence was shown was off the charts beginning from the very first chapter. The cults "training" was so deep within her she was still struggling just like the book information said.  But we get to see what that meant and how she wanted to be free and be herself.

Enter Liam and how careful and tender he was with Mara.  I loved that and how they found their own way of communicating without words.   Liam had his things he's been battling but he put it all aside because of how he felt about Mara.  He was there for her, hell or high water and he proved it time and again.

Was this story depressing? No.  Was it thrilling and unpredictable? Yes.  Did Liam and Mara have a good community of people (a chosen family) there to help them? Yes. Was there some humor in the story? Yes.  Was I satisfied with the ending?  Absolutely !

The opening pages of Chapter 1 starts things out with a bang.  And the intensity just keeps on rolling. The world-building was also excellent.   Prepare yourself for a surprise twist when it comes to at least 2 people you think you've figured out.

The Cady brothers, Carson and Dexter are NOT your usual run of the mill baddies.  They've taken steps way beyond that. Clever and ruthless should be their middle names.  They think they are unstoppable but they keep forgetting about Blaze.  Well, not exactly forgotten about Blaze and his team since they are on their hit list. But they did forget how smart and ruthless Blaze could be, especially when you come after his family.  Dexter's thirst for revenge has caused him to make dangerous mistakes in the past.  Is he going to make a final mistake that will get him killed?

The intensity level holds up throughout the story as it adds more depth to the people on Blaze's team.  So does the willing and unwilling people who aid Blaze in his pursuit.  You'll have to find out which camp Slick is in but I will say he was quite the interesting character.

It all comes to a satisfying ending and a good Epilogue.

When down-and-out surfer and former lottery winner Danny Teakwell was framed for a grisly murder, he got help from a family of wacky morticians that included seven-year-old embalming expert Jessica Jewell (Psycho-Tropics). Five years later, the tables are turned when Jessica shows up, alone and desperate, seeking shelter. Her parents suddenly sold their family funeral home and vanished.

Danny’s not in a good place. Grieving the recent death of his wife and childhood sweetheart, he’s let life crumble. He reluctantly agrees to take the girl in for one night, but the willful twelve-year-old convinces him to join her investigation to find her parents and get back their funeral home. The trail leads into a ghastly criminal conspiracy of corpses, caskets, and killers. As the bond between the unlikely pair grows, it becomes unclear who’s saving who and which one is really running the show.

Hilarious and heartwarming mystery and suspense with a walloping conclusion, Dorian Box brings his unique blend of darkness and light to life in this zany joyride through the Sunshine State.

I've got to be honest, when I first started reading this book, I wasn't too sure about it.   It's slow start and quirky people had me shaking my head. BUT, then that weird little girl Jessica grabbed a hold of me and didn't let go !! The more the story went on the more I loved her.  She was smart, loyal and could out maneuver any adult who tried to mess with her.  You argue with her?  The you lose, spectacularly! Didn't matter who you were, that wasn't going to intimidate her.  It left me wanting to read more of her adventures when the story ended. I hope this will be a series.

Now on to the rest of my thoughts and this book.  Danny, was a good guy who had basically checked out of life after his wife, Sari died. Jessica was right when she says, "Everyone loves Danny" and he doesn't realize how great he really is.  It's really great how they begin to really connect and how they "got" each other.  They make a really great team.

The emotions, the dangers, the plots against Jessica and Danny was SO well written that I enjoyed all of it.  Especially when Jessica and Danny fight back.  Well, to be accurate it was mainly clever Jessica fighting back the way she knew best. Jessica was also bold and fearless.  Except for that one thing that she feared, drowning.

Excellent ending that left me wanting more.

BOOK REVIEW- Must Love Flowers by Debbie Macomber

Romance

Description

Two women at different stages of life find themselves on a journey of renewal after undergoing hardships in this uplifting novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber.

“Wise, warm, witty, and charmingly full of hope, this story celebrates the surprising and unexpected ways that family, friendship, and love can lift us up.”—Kristin Hannah, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Four Winds
Joan Sample is not living the life she expected. Now a widow and an empty-nester, she has become by her own admission something of a recluse. But after another birthday spent alone, she is finally inclined to listen to her sister, who has been begging Joan to reengage with the world. With her support, Joan gathers the courage to take some long-awaited steps:  hiring someone to tame her overgrown garden, joining a grief support group, and even renting out a room to a local college student. Before long Joan is starting to feel a little like herself again.

Across town, Maggie Herbert works mornings as a barista, tending to impatient customers before rushing to afternoon nursing classes. She’s been living with her alcoholic father, ducking his temperamental outbursts and struggling to pay the household bills. But her circumstances brighten when she finds a room for rent in Joan’s home. In the unexpected warmth of her new situation, Maggie finds a glimmer of hope for a better life. But will Maggie’s budding attraction to one of her favorite customers ruin the harmony she’s only recently found with Joan? Meanwhile, what is Joan to make of the mysterious landscaper who’s been revitalizing her garden—a man who seems to harbor a past loss of his own?

As Maggie and Joan confront difficult life choices, they draw strength from this new friendship in surprising ways—discovering in the process that “found family” is often the very best kind.

This was quite the interesting story with really good people shown with great emotional depth.  Joan is the main person that kicks things off even though she has isolated herself for 4 years after the death of her husband. A major phrase for her for quite a while was about how things "used to be."  I found the part about 4 years later she is still struggling.  I say that because a friend of mine who lost her husband said she was shocked that she found it even harder to deal with 3 to 4 years later. She expected the first year to be the worst.
This starts out as Joan's journey and the story picks up other people as the story goes on.  Maggie is one of those people, and she really does deserve to catch some breaks. Maggie is hardworking, loving and had plans for her life.  Too bad her father wasn't so much on board with helping her.  The reasons become clear though heart breaking too.
Phil Harrison, from Harrison Lawn and Landscaping is drawn into her life when she steps out and needs to hire him.  The scrambled message that Joan left on his voice mail was also amusing.  It also makes for great title for this book that makes total, sweet sense.
Joan's sons Steven and Nick also share in the story as they have a lingering affect from their father's death.  But also worry about their mother and didn't know how to help.
Even though this story dealt with grief deeper than I was expecting, it still kept me wanting to read more of the story.  I think it was the people themselves that kept me connected to the story. A sad story at times but also some victories in small steps.
I liked how the story ended and enjoyed the Epilogue.

BOOK REVIEW- Greyson (The K9 Files #9) by Dale Mayer

Combining a trip to see his grandparents with hunting down a K9 dog sounds like a good excuse at the time to Greyson. Somehow the K9 had been accidentally flown halfway around the world in the wrong direction and then lost. Finding the dog wasn’t easy, but Greyson follows the trail of destruction the same as the K9 does … and finds the female shepherd protecting a mother and child …

So not what he expected. Jessica didn’t understand why the dog was always around, but the dog was plain scary. Although not as much as everything else going on in her life right now. Most things she blames on her ex-husband, but was he this mean?

With her toddler son to protect, she knows she can’t make a mistake that will bring them harm. As the events escalate, it doesn’t take long to decide who was on her side and who … wasn’t.

I ended up with mixed feelings on this story.  To start off with though, I did like Greyson, Jessica and her son Danny.  Both Greyson and Jessica had their own challenges.  I liked that the author shone the light on the fact that Greyson was not physically "perfect." Also, the introduction of War Dogs made it even more unique. Kona, had served as a War Dog and I enjoyed her interactions in the story.

Jessica has lived through quite a bit of terror and stress as she is stalked and getting almost no relief.  No one could seem to do much about it until Greyson showed up.  The police force was small and at first really weren't sure there was a problem.

One thing I do have to say about the romance between Greyson and Jessica.  I could see that they developed a sweet friendship, but just wasn't feeling the spark of romance.

Something that kept my interest too was the mystery of the who, how and why Jessica and Danny were being stalked.  And the additional question of how the stalker kept getting away when they got so close to catching him. There were some other surprises waiting for the reader at the end too.

I received a free copy of this book and these are my honest thoughts about it.

Wow, the opening chapter grabbed me ! Part of it had to do what was happening but also part was because of Ben's reaction and words  when he was apprehended.  It was hilarious to me how to talked to the officers trying to "not" arrest him.  They hadn't ever met anyone like him and he left them off balance.  I loved that and it made me want more; hoping the rest of the book would be just as good.  It did keep being just as good, in fact it got even better !!
The way that areas were explained were like words used as a paintbrush to really fill it in.  I also really liked the author's writing style especially when it came to Koenig's often hilarious way of thinking and speaking to opponents.  Of course he was also lethal in both too.  Even some of the people that Koenig encountered had some funny way of saying things that made me smile.
The weapons, fighting styles and some of the actual battles really give a feel of the author knowing their stuff.  So yes, there is violence in this story of course, how could there not be?  But there is also some relationships in the story that also make it more than just that.
I found this story unusual, unique and totally unpredictable. I would give it 10 plus stars if I could.  The ending is a stunner with several other surprises being revealed.  Making it look like its an ending ...for right now.

Such a well written book that kept me involved.  Starting with Annie and her daughter  Kylie, and Annie's past love with Jon.  Even Nate, Annie's late husband and Jon's best friend brings an other level to the story. Annie's long-lost sister Sarah is one messed up woman but who wouldn't be with what she suffered through.  The emotions that they are going through in the family is easy to understand.

The world building is rich and well fleshed out as is the mysteries that have been afflicting their town.  The people in this town for the most part were really good.  It was enjoyable witnessing the tightness of many of the people.  Anu was one of the best; she was kind, loving even while fighting her battle against cancer.

When the villains of the piece were revealed it was a stunner as was how they hunted Annie and her family.  It'll keep you on your toes for sure. The leader of the group was also a big stunner. He feared Annie because he knew how skilled she was at finding the truth and fighting back.  And what a great leader she was at bringing the fight to those after them.

I liked how faith in God and his love and protection was included in the story.

A good ending follows although the way it is written it feels more like new beginnings.

HOOPLA/ BOOK REVIEW- Heart Bones: A Novel by Colleen Hoover

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us and It Starts with Us!

Moving, passionate, and unforgettable, Colleen Hoover's novel follows two young adults from completely different backgrounds embarking on a tentative romance, unaware of what the future holds.

After a childhood filled with poverty and neglect, Beyah Grim finally has her hard-earned ticket out of Kentucky with a full ride to Penn State. But two months before she’s finally free to change her life for the better, an unexpected death leaves her homeless and forced to spend the remainder of her summer in Texas with a father she barely knows.

Devastated and anxious for the summer to go by quickly, Beyah has no time or patience for Samson, the wealthy, brooding guy next door. Yet, the connection between them is too intense to ignore. But with their upcoming futures sending them to opposite ends of the country, the two decide to maintain only a casual summer fling. Too bad neither has any idea that a rip current is about to drag both their hearts out to sea.

This was a surprising, different kind of story. I've never read anything quite like it.  It'll touch a lot of emotions as the story continues.  It was also totally unpredictable.   One thing that shines through strongly is that Beyah is a survivor.  And at her young age, you can see that she's survived a lot.  Made me rooting for her from the start, with all her protective walls and all.
When she meets Samson, it's in an unusual way filled with some misunderstandings.   She begins to recognizes that he is damaged.   She sees someone who has been SO hurt by life, similar to herself.
Beyah's new "family" added even more emotional baggage but her stepsister Sara turns out to be such a good plus.
When the truth comes out about Samson's life it's a stunner.  And the way Beyah finds out is brutal.
I liked how the why of the book title came out, that in itself was special.   A new look at Heart Break.
Do you expect the ending of the book to not be emotional?  If you do, you'd be wrong,, because it's not only emotional but tender too.   Turns out Beyah and Samson are both survivors.

Jane was one smart cookie who was vastly underestimated.  Chris is not one of those who saw her as a woman unable to lead.  He supported her in every way that he could.

Maggie was someone who was like a sister to Jane.  Jane had tried so hard to keep Maggie out of the business.  But there came a point where Maggie declared she was all in, and she was.

This story did have clever plans, twists and betrayals.   The downside for me was some of the conversations sounded stilled and the story ended on a cliffhanger.   I still gave it a good rating for what I did like that was well done in the story.

Brilliant ! Outstanding ! Even better than I hoped for !  This story was a total thrill ride ! Made me want to read more about this series.  Imagine my surprise when I found out, Book 2 is in my TBR pile!

But getting back to this story. I totally fell in love with both of the main characters, each on their own was unique.  But put them together and they became a powerhouse of loyalty, skills, cleverness and loyalty to each other and country. I also enjoyed the romance between Michael and Nadia and that was without  needing detailed sex scenes.  Oh, there was sex suggested between them but I enjoyed the affection and trust  But they had no idea of the depth of the lies and the betrayals that awaited them.  Good thing that they had at least Joseph and J.R. as known allies that are there for them, all the way though.

The same thing can't be said of Gerald Reid and his sidekick assistant,  Kendra Burges.  It didn't take too long to figure what side of the fence they were on.  But that by no means ruined the story by knowing that.  Reid was not only a power hungry, evil, man with a lot of money behind him but he was also clever with a lot of people he could use illegally to hunt Michael and Nadia.

The world building was off the charts good!  As was the hunt on both sides, it made me feel like I was right in the middle of things.

It started excellent, stayed exciting and excellent and it ended the same way !

This is a good story with really good main characters.  The first meeting between Juliet and Constantine was quite an unusual and almost funny one.  Misunderstandings abound between them.  Another unusual thing is the bold rescue that Constantine pulls off when she needed it. Can anyone else say Cool ? This is first but definitely not the last time he will be there for her.

The heat between Juliet and Constantine is blazing almost instantaneously, no matter how they fought it.  To be honest, they didn't fight against it all that hard because the connection was already there. It made me want to know how everything was going to turn out for them.

Holden, was Constantine's new partner and he was not only skilled but hilarious at times too! He made me smile more than once.

Alexandre was the Counsellor who was temporarily in power for the king in Lancaden.  Talk about a shady kind of guy and not feeling any trust for him and his motives.

You think you've got it all figured out?  Nice try but you're probably wrong because there are yet plenty of surprises in store for the reader.

Did I like how the story ended?  That would be a big Yes.
