BOOK REVIEW- A Proposal of Marriage (Brazen Brides 4) by Cheryl Bolen **

Description

The bespectacled, very bookish Miss Rebecca Peabody, who pens enlightening essays under the name P. Corpus, simply must marry. Since she abhors that disgusting “bedchamber business,” she decides Lord Aynsley is the perfect man to become her husband. At the advanced age of three and forty, he surely has gotten that repellant bedchamber business out of his system.

For reasons quite unknown to her, he accepts her bizarre marriage proposal, though he assures her a chaste marriage is NOT what he has in mind.

John Compton, the Earl of Aynsley, needs a wife to see to his brood of seven motherless children, a wastrel ward, and an uncle with a most peculiar habit. But he’s not interested in the way-too-young Miss Rebecca Peabody . . . until he discovers she is the brilliant P. Corpus who writes political essays with such passion, a passion he vows to unleash. Thus he embarks on the adventure of his life . . . that of tutoring his young wife in the ways of love.   AMAZON LINK

   5 STARS

What an amusing, charming, unorthodox story.  I enjoyed it a lot.  There is even humor right from the start.  Miss Peabody (Rebecca) is the one that sets that humor going when she meets with Lord Aynsley (John).  It's not the only time that humor will show up in the story and I enjoyed that.

Unorthodox should have been Rebecca's middle name.  Unorthodox but  she's not cruel or malicious.  She is a very organized woman who is also loving and caring.  I liked that part of her story includes the fact that eyeglasses were a very necessary thing to her daily life.  She does fit in with her new household even if she's not sure about that at first.  The other members of her new family do add a lot of flavor to the story.  They also add some challenges as well.  It's good that Rebecca thrives on challenges because she has one in particular that the reader could see coming a mile away. Of course since Rebecca isn't a dim-wit she could too.

John had so much more to him that what the outside world saw.   He's a man who yearns for love and a woman who is his intellectual and political free thinking equal.  That's quite a wish list but he begins to see that Rebecca just might fit that bill.

The story has a welcome H.E.A. for our main characters as well as another couple.  With a good Epilogue as well.

By the way I really liked the eBook cover.  It's what caught my eye and had me stopping to read the book information.

4 STARS

This was a sweet, emotional story with good main characters.  That also includes both Alyssa's boys and Ben's adopted daughter.

There is a friendship that develops Alyssa and Ben first that leads to a romance.  It truly is a clean romance story but with life challenges that are easy to imagine.  And God is part of the story without overtaking the story which some people might not have enjoyed otherwise.

There is also a H.E.A. with a satisfying Epilogue.

IT LOOKS LIKE I ALREADY REVIEWED THIS BOOK BEFORE ON AMAZON

This book had really good main characters that had depth.  The plot I thought was a good one was well, with plenty of emotion.  Even though not all things were resolved, Izzy and Nick do get their hard-earned H.E.A.  It was quite the journey to get their but I did enjoy it.

There is also good secondary people and that includes Aaron (whose a different, colorful kind of guy) and Rita who manages the stables at the survivor camp.

Garth Duncan is still at work trying to destroy the Titan family especially their father.  Who was a ruthless, uncaring man who uses people without really caring about them at all.  Even his daughters fell into that category; useless unless he can uses them.  Not one speck of loving them involved.

I'm thinking Book 4 in this series will probably show us more of what happens with Garth and his vendetta.  I'm going to look into that.

BOOK REVIEW- You Do Something To Me (New York Sullivans) (The Sullivans Book 17) by [Bella Andre]*

Alec Sullivan has always believed he has it all. A billion-dollar private aviation business. A penthouse apartment in New York City. Beautiful women who know better than to expect him ever to fall in love. And great siblings for whom he'd do anything. But when Alec's business partner passes away and leaves everything to a daughter Alec never knew about, in an instant everything in his life turns upside down...all because of Cordelia.

Cordelia always thought she was perfectly happy with her life. She owns a garden store she loves, lives in a pretty little cottage in the same town as her adoptive parents, and figures there's plenty of time to meet Mr. Right. But she never counted on becoming the surprise heir to a fortune...or on meeting a man like Alec Sullivan. A shockingly sexy billionaire who makes her heart race and melt all at the same time.

Neither Alec nor Cordelia plans on getting any closer than they have to. Only, how can either of them fight this kind of heat, this depth of desire? And when Cordelia needs Alec's support, it's pure instinct for him to be there for her. But when it's her turn to help him confront his deepest pain, will Alec let her in? Or will he push her away, just as he's pushed away everyone who's loved him for the past thirty years...AMAZON LINK

4 STARS

This was an emotional story with strong main characters.   They had depth and were well fleshed out.  The romance that developed from the strong friendship between Cordelia and Alec was also well done.  Later there will be sex between the two.  A fair amount of it to be honest.  With Alec having almost one foot out the door when it comes to getting too close.   Love terrifies him especially after seeing what it did to his mother and father.  That is an obstacle that will be overcome.  But the road to getting there is a interesting one.

There is also a strong group of Sullivan family that were good supporting characters.

Everything comes to an end with a H.E.A. and a good Epilogue.

BOOK REVIEW- Royally Bad (Royally Wrong Book 1) by Lee Savino

Theo Kensington the most eligible—or ineligible—bachelor in the entire world. So what he’s starred in a sex tape…or three? He's heir to the Kensington fortune. Son of a long lost Swedish princess. That's right—this tall, dark, and tattooed stud is a prince

Enter me. Vesper Smith, media consultant AKA fixer. I have four days to convince this bad boy to behave. Clean up his image, clean up his act.

But Theo’s more interested in misbehaving. And if I’m not careful, there’ll be a new costar in his next scandal: me. AMAZON LINK

2 STARS

Even though the book information clearly states who Theo is and his lifestyle, I was hoping for more STORY than sex.
IT began to feel more like a sex journal (instead of a sex tape) with just a touch of romance thrown in.

Sure I knew there would be SOME sex in the story but it just felt like that was the main focus with a thin story wrapped on the outside.
There is a H.E.A. for this unusual couple along with a Epilogue, I will give it that.

BOOK REVIEW- Queen of my Hart (Headstrong Harts Book 2) by Emily Royal *

Description

Sometimes, a losing hand can be the greatest victory of all.

Born into poverty, self-made banker Dexter Hart is now one of the wealthiest men in London. His ambition is to marry a title—and who better than the daughter of his enemy Viscount Alderley, the man who once whipped him as a boy, and on whom he vowed revenge? But Dexter’s plan backfires, and he finds himself tricked into marrying Alderley’s illegitimate daughter instead.

Margaret Alder has known heartbreak and betrayal, and has lived in exile and disgrace for eight years. When her natural father rips her away from her home, he bullies her into marrying a stranger. The marriage thrusts Meggie into a world she doesn’t understand, with a bridegroom even more reluctant than she—a world of society, traditions and etiquette, where even the servants don’t hide their scorn. But she soon learns that beneath her husband’s ruthless exterior lies a passionate man who renders her breathless with his fiery kisses and skilful touch.

Meggie rises to the challenge and proves herself an intelligent and kind-hearted woman, and Dexter wonders whether Fate chose for him a better wife than he would have chosen for himself.

But when Meggie’s past returns to haunt her, she must decide whether she can trust the husband she’s growing to love—or risk losing him forever.  AMAZON LINK

3.5 STARS

I had mixed feelings on this story.  I liked some parts better than others. For me, it was a bit like a roller coaster ride.

Poor Meggie just can't seem to catch a break.  It seems like just about everyone wants to use her, in one way or another.  Even when things start to smooth out a bit between her and Dexter, the creeps just keep coming out of the woodwork. Even through all of her troubles of being unloved and undervalued; her goodness and kindness continues to shine through.

Dexter was one handsome but stern man.  Reason over emotions was part of his motto.  Because of his harsh upbringing he had hardened his heart especially against showing weakness in any form.  His harshness causes problem after problem for him even alienating most of his siblings.  Business success was definitely his though.

I will say that I liked the stunning surprise that comes for Meggie towards the end of the story.  It brought tears to my eyes.  The Epilogue was also welcome.

BOOK REVIEW- The Bard (Highland Heroes Book 5) by Maeve Greyson *

Historical Fiction | Romance

Description

The fiercer the battle, the sweeter the spoils

Sutherland MacCoinnich flirts his way into the hardest hearts and most forbidden beds. He’s such a charmer, even the lasses that he loves then leaves behind never hold any ill will against him. All the ladies adore him. All except one. As lovely as she is infuriating, the daughter of Chieftain Greyloch barely gives him a passing glance. When she does, it’s only to tell him he smells more like a horse than a Highlander. She even threatens to shoot him if he ever sets foot on her land again. And to add insult to injury, the woman cost him a keg of fine whisky in a bet.

An enticing trinity of beauty, wit, and fire. She would be his. Forever.

If Sorcha Greyloch doesn’t marry soon, she’s sure to be the death of her father. Many a desirable suitor has come calling, but she has refused them all. She knows who she wants. She’s loved Sutherland MacCoinnich since the first time he darkened her clan’s door. But she’s not about to tell him that until she has him on his knees. After all, most men share a particular trait. They’re driven to possess what they think they can’t possibly have.

The womanizer of Clan MacCoinnich is about to be tamed by the one woman he feared he would never win, but unexpected danger lurks in Castle Greyloch. A danger that threatens the dueling lovers’ future.

The title of this book makes sense much further in book when Sutherland uses his sweet talking smooth voice In song to Sorcha.  I liked that it wasn't overdone though. It had already been established that his smooth talking had charmed many a woman. He'd charmed, conquered and moved on. Sorcha had determined some time ago that she wouldn't be another in the number of those left behind.    And she had quite the plan she was working on to catch his interest and gain him as a husband.

AMAZON LINK

4 STARS

I liked that the meaning of the title of this book makes sense further into the story.  It fit when it came to Sutherland.  He was a smooth talking man who later turns that into a smooth use of his words in song as he woos Sorcha.  Sorcha knows about his charming ways and how he has left many a woman behind after charming her.  She was determined to have him as husband and not be numbered in those left behind.  I liked that she was clever about her plans that she is working without being malicious.  And her plan has got his attention like no other woman ever has.  Sorcha doesn't want to just be a woman who has his attention for a time but for all time.  She won't permit any more wandering eye once she gets him and she plans on being faithful also.  The flirting, the romance and the catching was fun and tender as well as the fiery moments on Sorcha's part too.

The healer, Aderyn,  and Greyloch (Sorcha's father) added to the story.

Pay attention to the other players in the story..Jenny (Sorcha's foster sister),  Heckie (a young man who is a simple friend from childhood), Magnus (close as a brother to Sutherland) , Garthin and his mother, Lady Delyth Culane (unwelcome, hard to remove guests).  Is the killing danger coming from any of them?  There sure has been a lot of suspicious "accidents" going on all of a sudden.  You just never knew when or how the next danger was going to show up.  The author had me going around and around trying to figure out the who and why of it.  When the truth comes out it's a doozy.

As the story ends (with a H.E.A. and a good Epilogue) there is also surprise twist waiting for Magnus.

On a side note, it was mentioned that there is a Dragonblade blog that you can signup for.

BOOK REVIEW- Cougar Mom (Killer Moms Book 3) by Eve Langlais

Part 3 of Killer Moms Series

Older is not only sexier, it's more dangerous too.

Meredith is practically old enough to be the mother of some of the younger Killer Mom agents, but that doesn't mean she's ready to retire. With her kids off to university, it is past time this Cougar Mom goes back to fieldwork. And she gets the perfect opportunity when she offers to help organize a wedding in the Caribbean...while completing a mission.

When an accident leaves her with no memory, she has no idea that the man caring for her, the one she's falling for, is her target.

Hugo isn't exactly a good man. He'd be the first to admit that he's ruthless, yet he's a different person around Meredith. A kind and gentle lover-until he's betrayed.

When the truth of Meredith's identity is revealed, he wants nothing to do with her, but that changes when she's kidnapped, and he realizes that he made the mistake of falling in love with a killer mom.

Another good story in an unusual series.  This story had depth and pulled me in right away with the Prologue about Anita.  This is the first of many names that she will be known as.  She'd do anything to protect her son and daughter, and she did.  Which landed her in big trouble until a woman named Marie showed up and led her to a new life.

Hug, wow what a private but surly guy.  "Trust no one especially a woman" is his unspoken motto.  He has reasons to believe that as he's been a subject of many betrayals.  His man for everything, Gerome is always there for Hugo.  And yes, that is what Hugo called him "his man for everything".  A totally accurate description.

There is plenty of dangers for both Meredith AND Hugo.  Which was a surprise because I thought the contract was to only kill Hugo.  That's not the last surprise though. There is a surprise twist when it comes to Meredith's target Hugo.  One that I liked and never saw coming.  There is also humor in the story too especially when Meredith doesn't remember her name and is dubbed "Ariel" by Hugo.  Well, a gal has to have a name right?  And it's better than Jane Doe.

The Inspector was a mixture of some smarts, but also looking for any way to increase his overworked, understaffed police department.  Hugo is often the one who get touched for that.  He also is mighty attracted to Ariel which irritated Hugo no end.

I liked the way the story ended in a dramatic way just like the whole story.  Nice Epilogue too.

BOOK REVIEW- Covert (Omega Sector 2) by Janie Crouch / Previiously Published as COUNTERMEASURES

 Book Cover

The clock was ticking, the enemy was watching…

At first it looked like a glorified babysitting job: safeguard a scientist while she created a countermeasure to neutralize a dangerous weapon that had fallen into the wrong hands. But when Dr. Megan Fuller's life was threatened, undercover agent Sawyer Branson knew the enemy was closing in. Sticking by Megan 24/7 wasn't something he took lightly, even if Megan didn't seem to appreciate his constant presence.

For a man used to getting any woman he wanted, Megan was a challenge he was coming to enjoy. Because beneath her boxy lab coat and pinned-back hair lay a brilliant and beautiful warrior. And before long, Sawyer's determination to save the world was matched only by the sudden need to make Megan his.  AMAZON LINK

5 STARS

This is one of my favorite in the series although I enjoyed the whole series.  The main characters had a lot to do with it.  I really liked quirky, brainy Megan.  Also the fact that Sawyer has met his match and she isn't like any other woman he's encountered.  His thought comment that she is one tiny woman  with a huge brain, made me smile.  Their romance was a bit different than most but was also tender at times too.

The danger level was high throughout the book and kept me interested throughout.  I liked how the book ended  with most of the baddies getting caught or killed.  There is one other baddie out there but it doesn't interfere with the ending of this story.  I was also glad that there was a H.E.A.

Beckah Shae - Awake (Official Video)

BOOK REVIEW- Secret (Omega Sector 4) by Jaine Crouch/ Previously Published as LEVERAGE

 Book Cover

He'd been hired to transport precious cargo—and it put a beautiful twist in his solitary life

Computer game developer Shelby Keelan has a gift: a photographic memory of anything concerning numbers. When she inadvertently discovers a code linked to terrorist attacks within a popular Internet game, shes called in by the government to help piece together what she knows.

Pilot Dylan Branson finally has his life the way he wants it: simple, quiet and aloneas far from his covert operation past as he can get. He knows when hes asked by his previous boss to deliver one tiny package to Omega Sector headquarters that his answer should be no. Especially when that tiny package ends up being a cute and quirky redhead hes instantly drawn to.

But what shouldve been a routine trip turns into a desperate fight for their lives when someone is determined to see that Shelby and Dylan dont make it anywhere alive and that the codes in her head are destroyed along with her.

Another really good story by Janie Crouch. Another one of my favorites in the series.  Both Shelby and Dylan were interesting people that were easy to get involved with. Shelby was a genius with numbers but not so much with people and endless chit-chats.
Dylan was still grieving his losses and he just wanted to be left alone. So although their reasons were different, they did have the loner thing in common. Dylan had a slew of loving family that didn't want to remain pushed outside of Dylan's life.
Shelby just wanted piece and quite in her life without someone constantly yakking in her ear. She had her mother (who just didn't get her and in Shelby's words drove her nuts.) She also had Megan who was really close to her and DID totally get her. Megan didn't think she was weird and just adjusted to what Shelby needed.

Looking for action, danger and adventure? This book has it and kept me involved every step of the way. There were some tender moments in their romance before one of them (usually Dylan) put his foot in it. Without meaning to he hurt Shelby time after time for a while. I also liked how two lonely people finally find a way to fight their fears.

Another good part of the story is that they finally discover who the mole is.

BOOK REVIEW- Conceal (Omega Sector # 3) by Janie Crouch */Previously published as UNTRACEABLE"

Book Cover

Posing as a married couple to save the world was easy compared to the very real feelings between them…

As Bob and Lisa Sinclair, Omega Sector agents Evan Karcz and Juliet Branson were a formidable couple—until a brutal attack left Juliet traumatized. But with a powerful crime boss selling military secrets, the safety of millions depends on the undercover operatives. It's up to Evan to rehabilitate Juliet…and not fail her as he did on the mission that still haunts him.

Evan's strategy is to be near Juliet night and day to practice posing as a loving couple. But soon he realizes there's a sizzling passion between them. And it's being threatened by forces stronger than they ever realized. With a killer stalking Lisa Sinclair, her "husband" knows he'd risk his cover—and his life—to protect her.

This book knocked it out of the park! Great main characters? Check!  A sweet romance?  Check! Danger coming from more than one place?  Check! Juliet and Evan being really smart people when it came to uncover work?  Check!

The trauma  and it's aftereffects that Juliet had endured as Lisa Sinclair was easy to feel.

Another kind of trauma is now something she has been dealing with daily for a year.  It was the Sweetheart Stalker that is relentless in his pursuit.  And he's escalating.

The tension is kept tight in this story and kept me totally involved.  So did the developing romance between Juliet and Eva.  I really enjoyed how  Evan was there for Juliet every step of the way.

I also have to give a nod to whoever designed the eBook cover.  Nice.

AMAZON LINK

5 STARS

Amazing story on so many levels.  The main characters were deep and complex.  Even some of the secondary people were well drawn out.  The emotions were strong and deep as well.

I found it interesting how Ethan had a shark like persona that he went into in a well explained process. He saved his soft side for his sister and his nephew Pete.  Most people didn't think he HAS a soft side.  He would do anything to protect Pete and keep him out of foster care and he proves it.  His own memories of foster care are portrayed vividly but without taking over the story.  His tenderness with Ethan was very touching.  His panic at possibly losing Pete was also almost palpable.

Stephanie's childhood was so different from Ethan's because of the wealth and family that was there for her.  But she carried her own hurts especially of never feeling like she fit anywhere. But her aunt and uncle Tobin were solid in their support of her.  And their sons were like brothers to her.  It was a family of choice as far as she was concerned.

She had challenges coming at her from so many directions especially those coming from people on the board of her company trying to oust her.

That was another depth to the story and comes along with quite the surprise twist or two.

I liked how the story ended with a H.E.A. for all expect those that crossed Stephanie.     She gets justice for several wrongs against her.

I've never been able to say no to him. I might agree to be the nanny for his precious little angel, but there's no way in hell I'm falling for her hot-as-sin daddy.**  AMAZON LINK

3 STARS

This was a charming, sweet, emotional, love lost and re-gained story.

We get to read both of the main characters points of view, which is something that I like.
Both had quite a history before things blew up when he went to college.  Ten years without a peep from him?  Immature much?  But he has grown a lot and having his delightful daughter Grier has helped him get there too.  Even though he had treated  Corrigan, so poorly in the past, it was easy to like him over time.

The slow pace of the story was kind of hard for me. It also had continual re-hashing of the past by both of the main characters.  That did make it hard for me to keep my interest up.

There is a H.E.A. with an included Epilogue.

The book had a dramatic start and the tension just kept on going. Edge of the seat reading would be a really good way to put it.

I liked that a list of the cast of characters was included in the book. That was a nice touch. I liked how realistic most of it was.
Great main characters who pulled me in right away. Unpredictable things happened and each time as "situation" came up I was thinking, "how are they going to get out of this one?" They came up with creative thinking and actions to pull them out of one danger after another. Every once in a while Cam would do something that made me think it was odd and a bit stupid. Odd that a seasoned undercover pro hadn't thought to check on that. But I'm not saying that endangered my enjoyment of the story because it didn't.
About the time you think it couldn't get more intense, it totally does. It ends even more dramatically than when it started.

I love the cover of this eBook as well.

BOOK REVIEW- King's Ransom (Men of the Hour #2) by Diana Palmer

A Western Romance Novel

Enjoy this fan-favorite contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Diana Palmer… Who is the stranger living in Brianna Scott's apartment? Ahmed ben Rashid claims to be a foreign diplomat in need of a hiding place. Though Brianna needs Ahmed's help to take care of her brother, she isn't about to play housemaid to some overbearing sheikh. Soon Brianna discovers Ahmed has the demeanor of a king. Yet the biggest surprise is "His Majesty's" demand that she become his bride. But Brianna isn't walking down the aisle until her royal suitor learns a much-needed lesson-in love. Originally published in 1993.  AMAZON LINK

  3 STARS

This was a fast story to read.  It was fun, even with the danger that Ahmed is hiding from.  The sparks really flew between Brianna and Ahmed before they even had to share an apartment together.  She found his arrogant entitlement supremely irritating.  He is used to being deferred to and has no one ever telling him no.  She's the first and she gets quite a few zingers of sarcasm that she looses on him.  They were pretty funny too.  And that's before  they even set up those temporary living arrangements.

Her brother Tad, added to the story as did the American agent,  Lang who is in charge of protection for Ahmed.

Even though there is also some humor, this was just a quick story that was fun for a moment.  Not one that would stay with me for very long.

BOOK REVIEW- Romancing the Earl (Distinguished Rogues Book 12) by Heather Boyd *

 Historical Romance

Companion Lenore Griffin is in dire straits when a letter from a dear friend arrives, offering a new position. Relieved at her good fortune, Lenore packs up herself and her beloved dog, Hero, and makes haste for London. Upon arrival, however, not only does she find her old friend in a shocking state of dishabille, but she’s somehow mistaken his offer. He has not written requesting a companion for his new wife. He’s written to request Lenore become his companion…for the rest of their lives.

Price Wagstaff, Earl of Carmichael, must have been deeper in his cups than usual when he wrote that correspondence. He doesn’t remember a blasted word of it. Still, it is a disaster of his own making, and so he will do his duty by Lenore. He quickly decides his old childhood friend will make a sensible wife and an agreeable mother to his heirs. He can give her safety, protection and comfort. A marriage of convenience. Lenore need never know that Price’s heart can never be won.

Despite their intentions to live separate lives, the pair can’t avoid the closeness that intimacy provides, and soon, Price no longer wishes to. Is it possible that he may find love a second time? Perhaps…if his secrets don’t kill their chance at happiness.

3 STARS

This book had potential because of the good main characters.  However, for me it fell somewhat short.

Yes, the emotions were there for Lenore and her feeling rightfully that she is almost invisible as his wife.  Her husband Price was dealing with his own guilt and sorrow which didn't leave a whole lot of room for anything else.

Yes,  Hero, who was Lenore's faithful, slightly mischievous dog added some interest.  So did the three friends who helped Lenore through their Hillcrest Academy and friendship.   But the story was so slow that it made it hard to keep interested.

The good news is that there is a H.E.A. for Lenore and Price.
