Bruno Mars Uptown Funk Parody: Unread Book

We’ve been hearing a lot of “Uptown Funk.” The song is super catchy and danceable. But the Guybrarian and the folks of Orange Public Library did something special for National Library Week that makes our literary hearts sing! They wrote their own version of this ear worm called “Unread Book,” ripe with hilarious literary references, dancing librarians, and a chorus that will have you humming into your paperback for hours! So this is what happens when the library closes at night!  CAN YOU CATCH ALL THE REFERENCES THEY MAKE IN THE VIDEO?

BOOK REVIEW- Accidentally Married

Madison Nichols, aspiring actress, is floundering. Her rent is due and she needs a job. Desperately. After getting a tip about an open position, she rushes to Jameson Technologies and meets CEO Jared Jameson. Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding, she is put in the awkward position of pretending to be his girlfriend. Not the job she was applying for. And when she finds out Jared lied to her to get what he wanted, she decides to get back at him. In front of his family.
Jared is stunned when Madison announces they are getting married. She pushed her revenge too far. How can he tell them it’s all a lie? And when his sick aunt asks them to be married before she dies, Madison comes up with a hair-brained plan to hire an actor and stage a fake wedding.
What they both don’t know is Jared’s father has found out about the fake wedding. And he’s got his own hair-brained plan.
This is a sweet romance, appropriate for any age.   AMAZON

I totally agree with the book blurb, "its a sweet romance that is appropriate for any age."  I enjoyed it.  There were so many times I found myself laughing while reading this book.  Other times I realized there was a smile still on my face from some of the antics.  And most of the funny antics were from Madison.  She had one creative mind, especially when Jared made her mad.  He did that often with his sometimes pushy CEO attitude.  In the beginning, Madison got payback on him, which is what escalated the initial problem.  Jared's family were unique in their own ways and made Madison feel guilty because they all welcomed her so warmly.  I would read this author again.
By the way, I really liked the ebook cover a lot.   It is attractive and really caught my eye.

Mother, wife, private investigator...vampire. Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very longtime for a vampire.
In Moon Dance, the world at large thinks Samantha has developed a rare skin disease, a disease which forces her to quit her day job and stay out of the light of the sun. Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there's a reason why he survived five shots to the head.  LINK

I really liked this book, I liked the humor and the supernatural parts in it too. Samantha didn't deserve what happened to her but she was doing the best she could with her situation and her family. She didn't lose any of her skills when it came to investigating but she was able to add some more supernatural ones. Also a few unexpected friends as well. Her client Kingsley was one of them and as was Detective Sherbet became someone who began to trust her skills but questioned a lot of other things about her. And he was pretty astute. I liked both of those people and she sure had some interesting and often funny conversations with them both. I remember laughing more than once while I was reading it. Samantha had a kick-ass attitude that came out her mouth and her fists at times. She was also loving and kind hearted and adored her children. This story had several different mysteries going on but they were good ones.
This book ended with many things completed but a few not that lead into another book. So, cliffhanger? Both Yes and No. If you are happy with how it ended then, "No". If you want to find out who her computer buddy, Fang is, and if Kingsley becomes more to Samantha then "Yes" somewhat a cliffhanger. Personally I want to see Samantha take back the upper hand from her husband. I could understand his fears but he failed to even see Samantha as a human woman with feelings. He was just disgusted by her, and he didn't seem to be all that warm and fuzzy towards his own kids either. He sure liked being in control though. The two men that are in Samantha's life, both seem to understand her pretty well. I've got my suspicions on who Fang is, wonder if I'm right?

Werewolf shifter, Brock Holt refuses to put his paws all over his sexy accountant. She's off limits--no questions asked. But when a perilous situation forces him to turn in front of her, all bets are off. She knows his secrets, and now her life could be in danger. Claiming sultry and smart Elsie as his own, Brock swears it's only for her protection.
Brock missed one small fact: Elsie is far from helpless--or innocent. A born and raised siren, Elsie spent her life fighting against her destiny, refusing to lure unsuspecting men into her clutches. But now that she has Brock, does she really want to let go?   AMAZON  4 Stars

This story was different, with several different stories/mysteries woven together throughout the book.   Even the supernatural creatures, added a "species" that I don't think I've read about before.   The "Myotis" were one nasty addition to the group, a terrifying species.  Adding to the terror factor was  that only a little bit was know about them by others.  But can you imagine anyone having a Dictionary of all the Supernatural crews?  Nice touch, author.  Elsie's mother was somewhat sly and manipulating, all in the name of protecting her daughters, according to her.   Elsie had wanted to escape her mother's dreams of having her linked up with a powerful immortal in order to have an extended life span.  Without it, Elsie would have a normal, human lifespan.  Normal, that is what Elsie craved.  It was also why she didn't date, even though her mom was doing everything she could think of to throw immortals in her path.  Elsie was a lot stronger than she ever thought and what was even better was that she was smarter too.  She showed her courage and smarts in situation after situation.  Some of the times she faced things head on and others she retreated and won.  Of course, that's not to say that when it came to her relationship with Brock, that she was always smart.   She seemed to have the attitude of, "if I keep running, then its not really real."  One of my favorite talks with Brock, she said,"you don't even like me and he responded, Don't say stupid things.  Good one Brock, you nailed it.   The push/pull between Elsie and Brock was good and he sure was trying to help her get used to her new life with him.  He gave her as much space as he could, all the while having been attracted to her for several years as she had worked in his business.  Not an easy task, especially since he was also working to try to not kill her independence but also protect her at the same time.  There is some violence in the story.  Of course there is, look at the group of people in it, but its not painfully graphic.  Over all, I found it to be a creative story with just a few semi-predictable elements.

I received a ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

5 Tips to Kick the Habits That Make You Want to Give Up
Doug Addison
January 28, 2016
Last week I wrote a blog post about how to overcome procrastination and it got a lot of response.
So this week I am following up on that topic with some tips to help you kick habits that make you feel overwhelmed or make you want to give up.
January is almost over and this is the time of year when people who set out to achieve a goal or do a New Year’s resolution might be tempted to give up.
So here are 5 tips (that I personally do) that will help you get the most out of this year—so you can begin to accelerate the breakthrough that you need in your life!
1. Get motivated by one of these
Most people are motivated by one of two ways: either they find something in life to inspire them with passion to achieve, or they get so desperately dissatisfied that they cannot take it any longer and are motivated to change.
It does not really matter whether you are motivated by passion and inspiration or desperation and dissatisfaction. What counts is that you take steps to do something about it.
What is going to motivate you to do what it takes to achieve it?
2. Get clear
“Where there is no vision, the people perish …” Proverbs 29:18a
Getting clear on what you want to accomplish will help you. Oftentimes people fail because of a lack of vision.
Write down something you want to do. Be as specific as you can while still being realistic.
Next, find a reason (the “why”) you must do it.
3. Find your why
When you find the right “why” for you, the motivation will come. Here are some examples of “whys”:
• I need to get healthy so I can …
• I must write this book because I …
• I have to lose weight or I will …
• I need to start my business so I can …
4. Think small—it’s better
Sometimes we set out to do things like lose weight, get healthy, write a book or whatever, and it seems way too big.
Instead, take your goal or outcome and make a list of some smaller tasks it will take to do it even if you don’t know them all yet.
When you do this first it helps take the pressure off so you don’t get overwhelmed.
5. Do one small step each day
This is a strategy that I use to do the many things that God calls me to do and I know it will help you as well.
Learn to do just one or two small things towards your bigger goal each day or week. As you get into the habit of doing this on a weekly or even daily basis, you will get things done that you never dreamed possible. In most cases it does not take a lot of effort to do.
Usually the hardest part of doing anything is simply to get started. So what is one thing that you can do right now that will make the most difference in your life if you were to get it done?
Take a moment now to do or schedule that task!
These are a few things that I do regularly and I know they will help you when you apply them in your life too. If you already know about them, but don’t do them then make a commitment to start up again!
I shared even more strategies and breakthrough tips like these on my latest online workshop, Accelerating Into Your New Year, last weekend. You can still get lifetime access to the replay if you get it before the end of January. Hundreds of people attended and I don’t want you to miss out.

What U really need to Learn (p)

In key #6 we talked about the reference to The Prophet Habakkuk when he said, "I will stand my watch ... and watch to see what He will say to me ..." Then the Lord answered him and said, "Write the vision and make it plain on tablets ..." (Habakkuk 2:1-2).

We talked about how we need to recognize that God also speaks in impressions, images, pictures and vision. The eyes of your heart are able to see. We can "see what He will say" when we allow images from heaven to come as spontaneous pictures which light upon our minds. These can easily be pushed aside if we dismiss them because they don't make sense or if we are preoccupied with a multitude of business.

So here is the final key:

Key #7 - Write down the flow of images and thoughts that arise, and do so uncritically, suspending judgement. Forget grammar, forget spelling and avoid excessive theological evaluation. There will be an opportunity to discern, refine and sift your answers out later. But at this moment we are exercising faith for God to put something into our fisherman's net. Jesus taught that the kingdom is like a net that caught all kinds of fish. After it was dragged to shore the fish could be separated into categories, good and bad. So place your pen down on the page and simply start to write the faintest impression.

Ask God to show you what you need to run with, and to weed out that which is not of Him. Continue to get to know God, His nature, His heart, share your revelations with trusted friends. Conversing with and hearing God is part of an ongoing relationship with Him. Give yourself time to develop an ear for Him. Continue to get to know Who He is and the more and more obvious it will be to know His voice.

You are precious sheep. And God wants to speak to YOU!

Cold Remedy Tea with Turmeric Ginger Honey Citrus - Honeysuckle

From her days as a tenant farmer’s daughter on the plains of Oklahoma to her tenure as CEO of Keller Williams Realty and now Vice Chairman of the Board, Mo Anderson has spent her life as a student – always searching for the lesson in every experience. Discover Mo’s fundamental pillars of a joy-filled life and be empowered and inspired to create your own.   AMAZON  I'm giving it 5 Stars on Amazon.

I liked that the author that she wanted to share Lessons learned by a tenant farmer's daughter.
She was living in poverty as a child but had such a rich foundation from her parents, who she dedicated this book to.  I loved how she said that many of the lessons she shares with us flowed naturally from them.  I was astonished with the advice her mother gave her when she was only in 4th grade.  Yes, it was wisdom but its also not something you hear especially to someone so young.  Wisdom and encouragement.  What a great gift her father gave her the ability and desire to dream.  He also brought in a few of the practical steps to make it real.  I like that she talked about not letting the "Dream Bullies" cause you to quit.  This book was one of wisdom, encouragement, and a fresh way to look at some things.  In other words, it made me think.
Here is just a few nuggets that spoke to me:

  • Your faith is an important part of who you are.  Build it, believe it and bring it wherever you go.
  • From my teaching experience the best leaning enviroment happens when people are having fun.
And this is a good one that got my attention:

"...I got a new vision of what I wanted to do-at the age of 52."

I'm keeping this book in My Personal Library, because its something I want to go back and re-read parts more than once.  It came just when I needed to!

How To Receive The Mantle God Has Destined For You

Mantle of the Father's Favour

As prophetic people, we are often drawn to the story of Elijah’s mantle.
Elijah’s mantle was more than the regular cloak that he wore. It represented his appointment as a Prophet of God. When he threw it over Elisha it was a prophetic act, revealing that the mantle—and the office of the Prophet it represented—was destined to be Elisha’s in the future. (1 Kings 19:19)

What is a Mantle?

A ‘mantle’ is a Scriptural metaphor (symbol) for a calling, ministry, anointing and—when applicable—office, given to individuals by God.

How to Receive God’s Destined Mantle for Your Life

Following are some significant lessons about receiving your God-ordained mantle, from the stories of Joseph and Elisha [1]:

1. Understand God Determines Your Mantle Ahead of Time

We do not select a mantle; it is established and destined by God.
Elisha didn’t just receive Elijah’s mantle because he happened to be at the right place at the right time. It was already his according to God’s word. (1 Kings 19:16)
Elisha needed to cooperate with the call of God on his life to receive the mantle that was his by God’s appointing. Elisha’s hunger and pursuit of Elijah was a sign of what God had placed in his heart.
Joseph knew at a young age, through prophetic dreams, that God had called him to rule.

A mantle is not ours for the choosing, it is determined ahead of time by God. The desire God places in our hearts is just one indication, among other confirmations, of the calling that is ours.

2. Servanthood Positions you for the Mantle God has for you

For a long season, Elisha was a servant to Elijah, supporting him in a menial capacity and learning at his feet. (2 Kings 3:11)
Joseph practiced servanthood for years—first he served his father, then Potiphar, then the prison warden—before he received the mantle of rulership he was destined for.
It can be tempting to go directly after a mantle, but just as with Elisha and Joseph, God has established His timeline for your life. God positions you with people and leaders that He wants you to serve now. Serving with faithfulness and a teachable heart is a powerful means of being positioned to attain your God-ordained destiny.

3. Realise you may Wear a Series of Mantles

Elisha was first a worker in his father’s fields, and then wore the garb of a servant, before he took up Elijah’s mantle. When God took Elijah, Elisha took his own cloak—the one he had worn as a servant—and tore it in two. There was no turning back. (2 Kings 2:12-13)
Joseph had a series of physical mantles along the way. The ‘coat of many colours’ his father gave him indicated favour, as well as his position as overseer to his brothers. Later, he was given a cloak as head slave in Potiphar’s household.

Ultimately, Joseph was robed in garments that represented his position as ruler next to Pharoah in Egypt. (Gen 41:42) But he didn’t go from being a youngster with prophetic dreams directly to the palace. He wore a succession of mantles, being faithful with each, and so it is for us.

4. Wait for Appointment to Establish your Mantle

Elisha was appointed by God as Prophet and successor to Elijah—but God used Elijah to recognise, prepare and establish that appointment.
God used Jacob, Potiphar, a prison warden, and ultimately Pharoah himself, to appoint Joseph to a position in Egypt that was already his through God’s intention. And it is the same today.
We do not ‘self appoint’ to a mantle or ministry. God uses those in oversight and authority to recognise and establish us in that calling at the right time. (Acts 6:6, Acts 13:1-3)

5. Understand your Calling will be Tested Over Time

As Joseph received the royal robes over his shoulders, maybe he recalled the earlier mantles that he wore:
  • The richly ornamented coat of many colours his father gave Joseph as a young man became another reason his brothers hated him. And when his jealous brothers threw him in a pit, and sold him to Egyptian slave traders, they wrenched the coat from him. That coat became the evidence the brothers used to ‘prove’ Joseph’s faked death to their father, Jacob.
  • Later, Joseph became a trusted slave, promoted and given charge over all his master Potiphar’s estate. But then Potiphar’s wife approached Joseph, wanting to seduce him. However, he valued his master’s trust, his purity and the call of God—and so Joseph ran. But Potiphar’s wife grabbed his cloak—and used it to accuse him. Not only was that cloak taken from him, it was used as evidence against him of a crime he didn’t commit. And landed him in prison.

Have you had this happen to you? ‘God, I thought that coat was from you. That mantle had promise. It was colourful. It represented good things to come. And now it’s been lost, robbed. That role, that job, that ministry opportunity—why was it taken from me?’

But Father God is seeing the big picture, from Heaven’s perspective.
Your Father wants to reveal to you what He is up to, even if you are feeling today as though you are in the midst of the trial or long period of waiting in relation to your calling. He wants to show you how he is redeeming those trials, even the failures, and how He is using them for His purposes.
It is not too late. For like Joseph, and Elisha, as you stay faithful and committed in the long haul, you will ultimately receive the mantle God has for you. And the ministry God has for you will be above and beyond anything you could ever have dreamed.

[1] Read the full story of Joseph’s mantle in Genesis chapters 37 to 41 and Elisha’s mantle in 1 Kings 19 to 2 Kings 2.

The Challenge between Ellie Ryan and Vince Corelli had been tough. It was both mentally and physically exhausting, not to mention overloaded with sexual tension. In the end, Ellie exited victorious as the test pilot of the brand new XH8 helicopter, Vince was offered a high paying private sector job, and they finally allow themselves one night of passion before going their separate ways.
Months later, Ellie’s crew has been murdered and the prototype helicopter she was piloting hijacked. All evidence leads to her involvement in a deadly terrorist game. Her only hope of survival is to open herself up and accept help, if it arrives in time.
Vince, a Resolutions operative, is sent to retrieve the XH8 from Colombia and deal with the woman the U.S. military believes to be behind the plot to kill hundreds of thousands of Americans, but will he be able to overcome his trust issues in time to prove Ellie’s innocence?   AMAZON
4 Stars is what I will be rating in on Amazon.

The title choice for this book was a good one and accurate one too.  The Challenge was the actual start up Event of the book, but the challenges continue repeatedly throughout the book.   Not only militarily, or just espionage, or terrorism but also the man woman challenge.  One of them of course is the challenge between Ellie and Vince.  With their off the chart attraction and trust issues, its not an easy road for either of them.  Ellie had to grow up fast and without having many people to lean and really no man that she felt would help, let alone stick around.  Vince had a  "woman done me wrong" experience and there was no woman that he felt he could ever trust to really have his back.  Uh Oh, can you feel the troubles coming?   And that's not even counting the other people who plan to make their lives miserable.  Still the romance part of the book was pretty good.
I was torn on how to rate this book because there were parts that I liked and some not quite so much.  I guess to say honestly, you should probably expect some of the language, the violence because of the book's setting.  Parts of it are raw, sometimes crude but as I look back I guess to be honest it's not as explicit as it could have been.
A little bit hard to believe that Ellie was beaten up time after time, when the same man had been warned against it.  Threaten and beaten for it at least once and he just keeps it up?  Where did the woman go who said she would kill him if Ellie had even one more mark on her?   As you can see, I haven't mentioned the name of the person torturing her or the woman in charge.  Why ruin the surprises?

Spiritual warriors are able to distinguish the training ground from the battleground, and they are able to receive from God under extreme pressure. Your circumstances right now in your life are to teach you how to receive under pressure. We learn to step back into a place of rest where we can hear the still, small voice of God, and we can receive revelation on what He is doing and revelation on how to align ourselves with Him. We can receive whatever God wants to bestow upon us in terms of favor in that situation.
Our response then to difficulties is, if God is for us who can be against us?

Stop Being So Unchildish.

There’s nothing quite like the beaming joy of a child. Uncomplicated, innocent, unburdened by cynicism or fear.
It’s pretty different from the “beaming” joy of an adult. Way too often, we’re hobbled by the trappings of adulthood. We’re bound to the process of becoming what we call “mature.” And by “mature,” we usually just mean lowering our own expectations.

If you really think about it, it’s difficult to take the concept of worldly maturity entirely seriously.

There’s very little about life in the world that we would understand as “mature.” Our world confuses pessimism for realism, cynicism for perception and negativity for truth.
The world of our old self doesn’t sell itself very well as a sophisticated and seasoned environment to grow up in. However, the worldly concept of maturity suggests that childhood should be a state of protected grace, and that without that protection, it falls victim to a fallen society around it. When the world itself touches on childhood–when innocence is corrupted by experience–there is a corresponding loss of vitality and an increase in the negativity of oppression and fear.
It’s the open hand versus the closed fist.
That, in a nutshell, is the way the world views growing up. Maturity is something to be sought after, but it’s also something that’s poisoned, corrupted and decaying. Childhood is precious and to be treasured and protected, but it’s also something to be escaped as soon as possible.
We’re convinced that we shouldn’t encourage children to mature beyond their years, but rather urge them to appreciate their youth while they can. And yet, we constantly belittle them, condescend to them and patronize them.

But here’s the rub: We’re all children in the Kingdom.

We’re all newborn and learning. We never stop growing in the Spirit, because everything that the Spirit is working towards in us boils down to one simple objective: to make us more like Jesus. And one of the fundamental aspects to our experience with Him has to be a childlike view of exactly where we are in Him.
We’re invited to cultivate a feeling of blank, delirious astonishment at the fullness of Christ in us! We need the wow factor that only a child can properly express—that gleeful rejoicing in something so unspeakably cool that it makes us want to bounce up and down with excitement.
The world loves to place ideas and people in neat, nicely manageable boxes. That’s why we get terms like youth and maturity, child and adult, innocence and experience. In the Kingdom, we’re not nearly so insecure that we feel the need to compartmentalize and rationalize life into convenient, bite-size chunks.

It’s perfectly possible to be a grown-up, with responsibilities and dependents, and still retain a childlike sensibility.

The Holy Spirit knows the difference between “childlike” and “childish.”
Given that attitude, it’s not surprising that we’re the best advertisements for the Good News. How can we not be, when the rhythm of our lives is captivated by Jesus? In Him, we’ve reclaimed childhood for adults and rehabilitated maturity for the child in all of us. We’re walking commercials for the capacity of Christ to renew and restore the world.
God allows and even engineers situations designed to establish further astonishment in our lives, to restore the childlike simplicity we need to move in His Kingdom.
There’s no fear in us, no insecurity. We’re given more love than we could ever need, and there’s more still to come as our capacity to feel and express love grows.
Smile along with us. It’s all going to end in laughter: the delighted chuckle of a child, amazed at how wonderful life can be.

BOOK REVIEW- #12The Renegade Hunter

Nicholas Argeneau is not your typical rogue hunter in The Renegade Hunter, the latest installment of the Rogue Hunter series from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands. Though he spent centuries targeting vampires who break the immortal laws, for the past 50 years Nicholas has been a rogue himself. But then he saves a beautiful mortal from a terrifying bloodsucker, and everything changes . . .
AMAZON  3. 5 Stars

Jo and Nicholas have quite the dramatic start.     She really gets hostile when she realizes pretty quickly that she was controlled and her memory was wiped when it came to her encounter with Nicholas. But time and time again, she proved herself one smart and quick thinking person.  Sometimes even smarter than the general group of people in the vampire/immortal family.   Of course that doesn't mean that she doesn't do some incredibly stupid things herself from time to time while they are on the run.  She began to ask questions that they hadn't even thought to ask.  Once she began to know Nickolas, she just knew that he wasn't capable of the things he's been accused of all those years ago.  Not only accused of but tormented by  as well.   It also cost him his family for years, he became an outcast.   Things on the romance level are completed but the story also leaves questions about Nichola's father that have yet to be answered.  In another book of course.

God is incapable of letting U down

Spiritual warriors are totally convinced that the Father is utterly incapable of letting them down. BOOK REVIEW- Waiting: A PAVAD: FBI Prequel

Fin McLaughlin wanted nothing more than to make a difference in his work with the FBI. Headhunted by the deputy director of the Bureau to head up a new division located in St. Louis, Fin was determined to make amends for the mistakes he’d made six years earlier that had almost cost him his career—and his life.
Those mistakes had cost him Agent Ana Sorin, and he would never forget that. Fin had never treated a woman the way he had her, and he never would again. He just wished he could tell her that someday.
Ana had spent six years recovering from the nightmare explosion she’d shared with her former partner Fin. When Fin walks into the St. Louis FBI building where she’d rebuilt her career, Ana was at a loss for words. Not to mention she didn’t have a clue what to do next with the tall, good looking man who was about to become her boss!
Too many issues had been left unresolved between Ana and Fin and between them and the man responsible for the bomb that had nearly killed them both.
Too many things had just been left WAITING for all of them. They had waited long enough…
AMAZON  I'd give it 4.5 Stars if Amazon rated things that way.
I really liked and enjoyed this book.  The two main characters were great in their diversity and misunderstandings.   Their beginning story of when they first met, was intense, rough and often times Fin was unbearably hateful to Ana.   That same kind of tension is also in the midst of two other team mates, Georgia (Ana's close friend) and Hellbrook.  Hellbrook was new to this PAVD group, but he's made himself generally unlikeable, acting like he's the one who is totally in charge.  His behavior towards Georgia has earned him her nicknaming him, "Hell".   I liked the other teammates, in the BAU like team.  I can see that their stories would be good too.  I''m looking forward to reading more of them.
