Book Review: Pursuing Justice

One of the main themes of this book that jumped out is " What am I blind to?" and "What are the things that I and  my generation are unaware of"?  The insensitivity when we see injustice has become the new comfortable thing to do.  To not see what is around us and act to resolve the pain and suffering of others .  It has another name " By Stander  Effect."  The author shares with his readers not only the character of God concerning justice, the history  of some of the injustices, and the his own "ah ha" moment about it.  There are also stories about those who dared to make a change on behalf of others.

I found this book to have some good bits and pieces but also a bit dry as well.  Kind of a mixed bag but I did come away with a new understanding of how the Hebrews look at God, and the spiritual and the natural sides to life.  Its not anything like the general separate American view.  They see that they are integrated and united working together like a set of railroad tracks.  The author explained it whole lot better and he did share some other good insights.

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255

“If you love it enough, anything will talk with you.”

George Washington Carver Quotes

A man who paid attention to God. Another thing he said :

“I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.”

He tuned in and God shared so MUCH with him in return.
God shared secrets.

Why Frustration exists according to Graham Cooke

"Frustration exists to highlight
where and how the Lord wants to change you.
It can either be the spark of life that creates
 a new dimension
or the detonation of all that we hold dear.
Be careful not to snuff out that spark,
 but nurture it properly."

Now it's being used to reach souls for Christ, encourage and build up the Church, and the raising up and training of leaders to shine the light in dark places.
Bibles, cassette tapes, DVD's are just a few of the things they are looking for.

eBook Review: Forgotten God by Francis Chan

Forgotten God: Reversing Our Tragic Neglect of the Holy Spirit -
        By: Francis Chan

The main point of this book is the reason we neglect Holy Spirit is not only ignorance of Him and who He is but also even when we do, we don't really need Him.  After all we have so many of our own answers that have worked so why seek Him for answers?  We are self-reliant without even seeing our need of the different roles He wants to be in our lives. He lives IN us; and He doesn't want to be a silent tenant!
We also make our lives way too safe and comfortable, we multitask and make our lives too loud; so loud that  it takes tremendous effort to find a quiet place.  It takes time to quiet your mind and your heart before the Lord.

The author has given  much scripture about Holy Spirit and points out that we need not only that but to know  Him personally for ourselves.  We read a lot about Him and hear other voices that talk about him but maybe you need to spend time with God instead of listening to those other voices only.

Be prepared to answer many questions as you read this book.  The author raises many good quality questions.  One really good insight is that we might want to ask Holy Spirit, " What do you want me to do today? vs. the usual " What is God's will for my life.  The latter usually leads to paralysis or even used as a way of putting things off; a cop out; because of fear.

Francis challenges us in a non-judgmental way to ask because we are filled with Holy Spirit, why don't we look and act different?  He's also included stories of people who have made a difference; who shouldn't have been able to but because of Holy Spirit and their dependence on Him, did!!

Book Review: Qualities of A SPIRITUAL WARRIOR

Qualities of A Spiritual Warrior
I wasn't even half way through this book when I KNEW it was a keeper for my Personal Library! To be read and studied over and over.   Loved Graham's descriptions of a Spiritual Warrior. At the end of each chapter there is some "homework" for the reader; making us a part of our own growth in the Lord.  As I was reading, my spirit was often jumping up and down going, " Yes! Yes! Yes!" Easy to read but that doesn't mean you can just blow through it.  I found myself reading some, and then chewing on it some before I could go on!!!  To be truthful, I'm still studying it!!!

I was surprised when I got the book; it was smaller than I expected but don't worry about that; its  pages are chock full of delight!!!!

Book Review: Understanding Bible Mysteries:

Understanding Bible Mysteries: Examining 13 Christian Myths and Half Truths -
        By: Ira Milligan

In this eBook of Ira Milligan's, he has has written  about :

Examining 13 Christian Myths and Half Truths.

Some of the subjects covered are:
  • Tithing
  • The Rapture
  • Predestination
  • Baptisms
  • Sin and sickness
  • Demon possession
  • Church structure
This is an in depth study in man's ideas and theories vs God's truth as seen in the Bible.

The author has done his job when it comes to bringing balance to some pretty entrenched ideas.
He has also included notes and recommendations for further study; a great work for the serious student of the Bible.  This would probably make a great group study as well.

I received this FREE eBook from Destiny Image for an honest review.

Book Review: Dancing with Angels #1

Dancing With Angels

A very well balanced beginning book on the Ministry of angels. The scripture references are made through out the book without twisting the word to mean something different than was intended.
There are stories of the author's experiences with angels and their ministry as well.  Different types of angels are discussed as well.  It's written in a way that makes sure that there is a  right, scriptural attitude towards angels; there is no worshiping OF angels but a recognizing them through Bible references.
I enjoyed the book but since I had already done much studying on this subject before, I had really wanted more.  BUT, it was good to review and also put back into practice anything that I had let slip.  A few things were even confirmation of  my own personal experiences. Don't get me wrong.  I did learn a thing or two in the process too!  So was the book worth it? I would say yes!

I WANT.......

‎"I want to be involved with God.

I want to see His hand.

I want to look into His eyes.

I want to feel His kiss.

I want to feel His breath on my cheeks.

I want to hear His voice.

I want to feel His heart."

(Graham Cooke)

I also echo that emotion.
I was also reminded according to Psalm 23 that I will NOT want!
Looking through the lens of that scripture I do not have to do without Him.
Add Song of Solomon to that and it gives a whole new meaning to Longing for God!

Graham Cooke said:

‎"If you want to hear the voice of the Lord,
it’s important to get into a place of rejoicing.
When you really rejoice, everything in you opens up and you can hear more clearly."

Prophet by R.J. Larson (Kindle Version)

Prophet
Book #1 of the Books of the Infinite

I got this eBook free from Amazon and really liked it.  You see, I got the 2nd book free from Bethany House for a review.  It was called "Judge" and I absolutely loved it!!!
Of course once I found out it was a series, I wanted to read the first one.  Kind of started reading out of the natural order but I found it made for a better foundation of what I read in Judge.
This is really the start of it all, when The Infinite called a new prophet, Ela.  It came against all previous standards.  She had so many so called "things" against her possibly being called into this position for God.  Being a girl, being young, a novice, not being trained by any kind of religious order, were things that offended some people; especially the religious.   But it was proven over and over that she had been chosen to perform the will of The Infinite, the Creator.
This book was easy to read, there was a great flow to it and the urge to not put it down until I had finished.  Sometimes this kind of imagery can be hard to get across to the reader, but I didn't find that the case in this book.  I found it uplifting and enjoyed the "inner" conversations between Ela and her Creator as well as her sense of His Presence.
If anyone has said, not enough action in it, my answer is continue into the next book, Judge, you'll find more there.  So far Judge is my favorite but I also needed this book but it wasn't hard to enjoy it too!!!
Did I tell you that book #3 is on pre-order through Amazon?  They are saying that "King" will be released July 1, 2013.  Will I be reading it?  You betcha!!

COMFORT ZONES

‎"When people and circumstances change,
we must move from the point of familiarity
 to a place of inconvenience.
Our previous comfort zone
becomes a place of restriction."
