Book Review: The Reason

A fairly large cast of characters, who are all drawn to the central focus, a Cross.  A Cross in front of a small church in Michigan, which  is suddenly hit by lightening and severely broken in a ferocious storm. This small church has no way to pay for the cross to be fixed either.   As the story unfolds, everything all goes back in their lives to " Only Believe".  Different people, different difficult situations but all given the same message, "Only Believe".    The minister of the church is blind, and one of his congregation members is a single mother named Brooke and her 5 year old son Alex.  Alex is soon to be diagnosed with leukemia.  Macey Lewis is a successful Doctor in her field, a cancer doctor.  These are only a few of the interesting people in this story, who begin to meet and their lives begin to be woven together. Believers and unbelievers alike come to the church to take a look at the Cross; some even come to help fix it.  Right in the middle of it all is " Kenneth".  Every where he goes, interesting, unusual things begin to happen.  Part of this is a  story of the fight to hold onto your faith in the midst of the impossible.

Well, written. Very well written.  The people in the story, very interesting.  You get drawn into their own personal stories.     As usual for me, when there a lot of different people with their own stories being introduced, it takes me a little while to keep them all straight, but it was fairly easy to catch up and was well worth it.   I give it 5 stars *****.   Some may say that it was predictable in some ways, but while that may be true  I  still totally enjoyed it.  Totally enjoyed the friendship between Alex and Charlie too.  Who is Charlie?  I guess you'll have to read it to find out!!

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255

Over the Edge Book Trailer

Book Review: Over the Edge

Over the Edge (Kincaid Brides Series #3)

(Kincaid Brides Series #3)

This story of the Kincaid Brothers, focuses on Seth and his painful, disorganized life.  Nightmares is something that he has shifted back and forth in for many years. Nightmares as he remembers vividly of fire in a cave, where he was badly burned.  Nightmares of fighting in the Civil War.  Too bad, he doesn't remember the woman he married as he was recovering.   His wife Callie remembers him very well, and  has prayed and searched for him, not knowing if he was dead or alive.  She's been through quite a bit as well, but she's no wilting wall flower.   No, she's a beautiful, tough, Texas gal who knows how to shoot and isn't afraid to do it!  Seth is intrigued by her as he scrambles to remember her before she can shoot him!!

The male "hero" (Seth)  in this story was very different; not your usual strong, always knowing what to do at every moment hero.  I liked that especially because he wasn't written as a weak man, just someone who had and was having some very unusual happenings and was very likable.  I enjoyed the strength that Callie brought to the story as well.  I have not read the prior stories of the other brothers but since they were also included in this story; it did make me want to read about the others as well.    My only negative about the story is at one point, it kind of bogged down for a short time, where nothing seemed to be happening; not even in the relationships. It was just like they were spinning their wheels.   But I kept reading and I am glad to say that it picked back up again and finished well.  I wouldn't say it was one of my favorite books but I did find some humor in it and it had its moments.

I received a free copy of this novel from Bethany House Publishers as part of their book review program, and I am under no obligation to write a positive review.

Live like your living; not dying

"Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death.
Set God-sized goals.
Pursue God-ordained passions.
Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention.
Keep asking questions.
Keep making mistakes.
Keep  seeking God.

Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution.

Stop repeating the past and start creating the future.

Stop playing it safe and start taking risks.

Expand your horizons.

Accumulate experiences.

Enjoy the journey.

Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can.

Live like today is the first day and last day of your life.

Don’t let what’s wrong with you keep you from worshiping what’s right with God.
Burn sinful bridges.
Blaze new trails.
Criticize by creating.
Worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks.
Don’t try to be who you’re not.
Be yourself.
Laugh at yourself.
Quit holding out. Quit holding back. Quit running away.
Chase the lion.“

Book Review: An Invitation to the Supernatural Life

An Invitation to the Supernatural Life

Do you think true miracles still happen today? In Africa?  Only?  Do you think that only in other countries that they experience more of God?  It doesn't have to happen only there; missionary Michele Perry shares many of the ways you can grow in the awareness of God and his presence,  what to do with supernatural encounters with God and how to recognize invitations from God and  what your part is  when you receive that invitation from God to come up higher with him. At the end of each chapter there are keys, questions and actions .  This is truly a Life Study Book; a study to live your life in.

I really liked this book a lot but had a REALLY difficult time reading it.  How can that be?  Because I was reading it so that I could prepare a book review; I needed to finish it!!!  The problem was I wanted to stop all the time and DO many of the things that were mentioned.  This is an interactive "Action" book; one that will take time to walk in.  Some people may have a problem with the words "activation" but broken down to me, it just means "put into practice." There were moments of confirmation of things that I had experienced which I always welcome but also new ways of looking at some things that showed me that I had "missed it" by not pushing deeper. Who would I recommend read this book?  My first thought was someone who was more advanced in their knowledge of the Bible.  But then, the thought came to me of how even young believers would miss so much if they didn't read it; they may be already experiencing some of these things and wondering "what in the heck is happening here?"  Bottom line, Michele points continually to Jesus, and the Bible and away from herself and feelings only Christianity.  She points to worshiping in Spirit and in Truth as the Bible says.  People will have to decide for themselves whether they are ready for the deeper  of that Truth.  I pray she has provoked you to a godly jealousy; as she has me.

I received a free copy of this book from Chosen Books as part of their book review program, and I am under no obligation to write a positive review.

God is Highly Relational....

"We are not designed to have merely functional relationships in the Kingdom.

God is highly relational, and so intimacy must be the highest priority of life in the Spirit."

Prayer Warriors for Reece's Rainbow

The T
T
  1. To lift the daily needs of each waiting child up in prayer
  2. To lift the ministry of Reece’s Rainbow up in prayer
  3. To lift the families whom God is preparing for each waiting child up in prayer

The Process:

If you and your family are interested in being a designated prayer warrior for one of our waiting children, please contact Laurie Rhoades or CLICK HERE. THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPATE. Each family will be randomly assigned one child with their picture and information. Older and adult children in the family are also welcome to participate and have their own angel to “pray home”. You can designate whether you would like to pray for a child with Down syndrome specifically, or one of our Other Angels. You will also receive a Prayer Warrior MAGNET to keep on your fridge and remind you every day to pray for your chosen child.
We ask for a full commitment at least until your child finds a committed family!! You are asked to lift that child up in prayer DAILY: that God will provide for their daily needs, that God will prepare a family for that child, and for the work of Reece’s Rainbow as a whole.
You can follow the progress of your child by watching the website for new matches, and following along with new family FSP profiles and blogs. Any changes in your child’s status will be relayed to you promptly! Updates about which children have ho mes and any pressing prayer needs will be available on the Prayer Warrior Blog. Warriors would also be able to request information on another child to pray for them. Weekly inspirational e-mails will also encourage Prayer Warriors to get the word out about RR and the Prayer Warrior ministry to their communities and churches.
You can  do this:
