Mistletoe Rules (Romancing Wisconsin Book 4) by [Netzel, Stacey Joy]
When Benedict Riley first meets Susan Whitcomb at a college holiday dance, she’s engaged to be married to another man. In this story where mistletoe rules, you’ll learn how the Riley Family Mistletoe Rules all began one fateful Christmas, not too long ago…AMAZON  3 stars

This was a short, sweet story.  A cute, quick read for the Holidays.
I do have to admit that in the opening pages, I was starting to get lost in all the people that were introduced.  But when the remembering of the romance between Ben and Sue began, that wasn't hard to follow at all.
This book was the introduction to a family tradition and how it all began.

I liked the short look into the book, "Autumn Wish" that was included at the end.  Sounds like that one could be interesting.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion of it.

BOOK REVIEW- THE REBEL HEIR by Elizabeth Michels

The Rebel Heir (Spare Heirs Book 2) by [Michels, Elizabeth]
The Spare Heirs Society Cordially Invites You to Meet Ash Claughbane: The Imposter
Lady Evangeline Green is living a lie. To please her family, she masquerades as the perfect debutante...until she meets the wickedly charming Lord Crosby. With him, there are no rules. She's finally free to do as she desires-but freedom comes with a price, and Lord Crosby is not what he seems...
Ash is not Lord Crosby. He's a con artist, a noble Spare Heir living off his silver tongue. When the Green family ruined his, he swore he'd make them pay, and he never doubted his devotion to revenge...until he met Evangeline. Now, caught in a web of lies, torn between duty and desire, what's a con to do but deceive all of London and steal the one lady who dared match wits with the devil himself?

I liked this book okay but it seemed so slow at times.  The slower pace does give the story time to establish how horrible Evangeline's life is with her mother though.

The interesting thing about this story is that BOTH of the main characters are living a lie.  For both of them the lie is a different kind of lie but it's still a lie.

No one had any idea how brutal Evangeline's mother was when it came to how much she controlled her daughter.   All that most people see is how "perfect" she is.  It's all a perfectly controlled image.  It's incredible how insane that control was, Evangeline could barely draw breath without permission.  Can you imagine someone watching your every move?  Someone who makes sure that you only took only 3 bites of any sweets, picked the clothing you would wear and what you could say? She was never satisfied with Evangeline and was a social climber of the worst order.  She already had money and was married to a "title".

"Crosby" or Ash as he is often called, is running yet another scam. This is one that he has had a burning  desire to finish for some time.  Not only that but there are people hot on his heels looking for justice against him. He does have some people backing him though through the lifetime friend/assistant to the society that he recently joined for the Spare Heirs.  He is charming, funny and helps "Evie" loosen up a bit from the strict routines she is in.  Of course he got her to loosen up when it came to the more intimate things as well.  What doesn't anyone worry about a pregnancy or what?

The story does have a few spectacular things happen to bring it to a more explosive ending.   Even Evie gets her own kind of smile worthy revenge as well.

The Amish Walk by [Vicks, Sabrina]
Jacob is feeling the pressure. Everyone in his Amish family is married and people are teasing him about not having anyone to tie the knot with. He's painfully shy but there are more than a few women in the community who would be open to his courtship. His problem is that the woman he truly has eyes for barely even notices him. He wants a family more than anything but becomes even more dismayed when the woman he truly loves tries to play matchmaker with him and someone else? Can he dare tell her his true feelings?   AMAZON  3.5 stars

The main story is short, and sweet.   Although somewhat predictable, I did enjoy shy Jacob's hopes for love.  It was a clean story as well.

Something I didn't expect was that there was 2 bonus stories.
The first bonus story is probably the one I enjoyed the most out of all the stories.  It felt like it had a bit more depth and I also enjoyed the story theme of a woman being enticed back to the community to help find a killer.  There was also more tension because she not welcomed by all on her return and that included a family member as well.  The friendship to romance that also develops makes you wonder how that will work out but you can also sense the hope.

The second bonus story was different, with some twists but I'm not so sure I liked the ending.

One of the other things that I liked about the books was that it wasn't all about negative control by the Amish.  It wasn't all harshness like some books focus on.  I know that it happens but this book was refreshing.

I just have to say that the cover of the eBook was one of the things that drew me in.  How cute is that picture?

Must Love Dukes (Tricks of the Ton Book 1) by [Michels, Elizabeth]
The Mad Duke leaned in closer, his lips gently brushing her ear, and whispered, "I dare you."
She Can't Resist the Dare
Lillian Phillips could not imagine how her quiet, simple life had come to this. Blackmailed by the Mad Duke of Thornwood into accepting one wild dare after another...all because of a pocket watch. Desperate to recover her beloved father's pawned timepiece, Lily did something reckless and dangerous and delicious--something that led to a night she'd never forget.
He has a Reputation for Scandal

When Devon Grey, Duke of Thornwood, runs into a mesmerizing, intoxicating, thieving woman who literally stole from his bedchamber--with his new pocket watch--Devon plots his revenge. If the daring wench likes to play games, he's happy to oblige. After all, what's the ruse of being the Mad Duke if you can't have some fun? But the last laugh might just be on him...

I enjoyed every minute of this one.  Lillian/Lily and the Mad Duke/Devon were both interesting people and there were quite a few funny moments in the story.  There was also some heated intimate times as well.
The Mad Duke really isn't mad, he just refuses to be forced into society's demands and they don't like it one bit.  He couldn't care less about their opinions.  Some of his "pranks" are part of his getting even with what he sees as the useless people of that society.  His reasons are even deeper than that although he didn't realize all of that at first.
I liked how he interacted with his mother and sister.  His mother was always upsetting his household when she visited but he loved her just the same.  His sister is someone who he often has teasing banter with.

Lillian is caught between a rock and a hard place.  She has sacrificed so much of her life to her family and now she's being "sold" to anyone who can benefit her brothers.  Especially her brother Solomon sees her as a bargaining chip to benefit his business.  Otherwise he could care less for her.
I liked how in the final outcome, the "evil" ones get what they deserve but definitely NOT what they want.  It made for some surprising twists.

Marriage: Impossible (Voretti Family Book 1) by [Blackstone, Ava]
Navy SEAL Sean Patterson didn't mean to marry his best friend's sister. But when he wakes up in a Reno honeymoon suite with a vicious hangover, a platinum band on his ring finger, and a mostly naked Keri in his bed, he knows the attraction he has spent half his lifetime repressing must've finally burst out of control—to disastrous consequences.

Keri MacKinnon has had a crush on her brother's best friend Sean since he rescued her from imaginary pirates when she was six. When he returns stateside after a harrowing tour of duty leaves him with a death wish, Keri will do anything to help—even pretend to be married. But as her crush blossoms into love, she must convince Sean to trust her with what really happened on the battlefield, or their fake marriage won’t ever grow into the real thing.   AMAZON  3 STARS

No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get into this book.  It wasn't that I thought it was badly written, it just wasn't my cup of tea.  I wanted to like it a lot more than I did but it just didn't draw me in.

In some ways it was somewhat predictable but there was at least one surprise towards the end.

Wicked Wyckerly (Rebellious Sons Book 1) (Rebellious Sons Series) by [Rice, Patricia]
John Fitzhugh Wyckerly has been the spare heir all his life, supporting himself with gambling and charm. The news that he’s inherited the bankrupt title of Earl of Danecroft shatters his indolent world. Even penniless, he’s always paid his debts, but now the estate’s creditors are closing in. He can fake his death and run for cover, or accept overwhelming responsibility and find a rich wife, one who will also accept his illegitimate terror of a daughter.

On his way to find an heiress, he meets Abigail Merriweather, who is neither rich nor aristocratic, but she can tame The Terror and stomp cockroaches. Unfortunately, she needs a wealthy, powerful man who will fight her father’s executor and retrieve her four half-siblings. When an unexpected inheritance falls into Abby’s lap, she sets out for London to seek a lawyer.

Can Fitz charm his practical Abby into trusting him to save her siblings when it’s doubtful that he can even save himself? And can Abby surrender reason and logic for the folly of love offered by a man who can have any woman he wants but insists he wants only her? AMAZON 4 STARS

Both of the main characters had a lot to deal with.  Both Fitzhugh (Fitz) and Abigail (Abby) have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders, without very much money or power to deal with them.
It was easy to become involved with each of their stories.
Fitz might come from the Wicked Wyckerly line of people, but he finds he does want to do something different than his predecessors.  But the debt is stacked so high, he's not sure what he can do. He has spent much of his life winning at cards but there is no way he can see to use that skill to overcome those kind of bills.  And the creditors are chasing him, literally.  Not only that but he is now responsible for his wild-cat illegitimate daughter.  Oh course he was the one who "rescued" her but he is so over his head even on this one.
His daughter, Penelope (Penny) was a hoot wherever she appeared in the story.  She was only six years old but no one had really loved her or cared about her before.  No wonder she ran wild and had a mouth like a sailor.  Fitz soon found that she also had the Wyckerly personality of doing the opposite of whatever she was ordered to do.  But he only caught onto that after seeing Abby work her magic with Penny.  It also made me smile when Fitz thought about how proud he was that he hadn't begot any squeamish, insipid miss but a warrior child.  Abby had learned a lot from her years of helping with children especially her beloved half brothers and sisters.

Abby is fighting mad trying to recover her half-brothers and sisters.  The only reason she "lost" them was because she was a woman and the executor of her parent's estate saw that as the reason to remove them.  She hasn't lost hope but things aren't looking good either.

I liked how Fitz saw Abby as he got to know her more. Yes, he was attracted to her but he also admired so many of her qualities.  He saw her as having the appearance of an angel with the fierceness of a lioness.  And once she made up her mind, she was like a little general who raced full speed ahead.  And she was fierce when it came to those she cared about.

It looked like both needed to marry but not to each other.  Fitz needed a heiress with a lot of money and Abby needed someone with the power to help her get her family back.   Fitz is a charming man who is used to women falling easily at his feet but not Abby, she is way too practical for that.  A comedy of errors and chaos follows.  There are plenty of surprises, twists and turns in store as well as a well deserved but unusual H.E.A.

Stolen Kisses (The Barrington Billionaires Book 2) by [Cardello, Ruth]
Dax Marshall isn’t the type of man a woman takes home to meet her parents. He’s a business shark who has never let anything as insignificant as caring stop him from taking over a company. Some call him heartless, but he doesn’t see the value of caring about anyone or anything until he meets Kenzi.
Her happiness becomes his obsession.
Kenzi Barrington has tried to be the person her family needed her to be, but she doesn't want to lie anymore. When she can’t hold a dark secret in another day, she turns to the one man she knows is strong enough to hear the truth.

What starts as a simple attraction becomes a friendship that changes how they both define love. AMAZON  4 STARS

This story has good, complex people in it.  Dax was raised harshly after his irresponsible father died.  His father sent him to school at an early age.  He usually dragged him out to show off to his new lady love what a great father he was.  And he married every woman he slept with, at least that is Dax's view of it.  So, the word, "Love" was something that had almost no meaning for him.  Of course his uncle made it worse as  finishes raising him, a fist was a main part of the discipline that his uncle dished out.

Kenzi didn't deal with physical abuse but she sure wasn't heard when it came to what she wanted.  She was raised to be the "perfect" daughter, someone who would politely submit to the wishes of her family. And above all else, do NOT upset her mother.  You know that can't last forever, the pressure from that is about to blow.  Also the secret that she has herself is adding to the pressure.

I did like how the friendship between Kenzi and Dex develops.  He helped her get free and stand up for herself.  Kenzi also began to show Dex that he was more caring than he ever imagined he could be.  She really begins to sees that caring side of him, he is so good to her.   She just seems to bring that out in him and at times it's pretty uncomfortable for him.

I liked how brutally honest Dax was, it ended up being one of the things that Kenzi  needed and ended up loving.  She was finally able to be herself for a change. It was fun to watch them grow and overcome.

The Sheriff Catches a Bride (Cowboys of Chance Creek Book 5) by [Seton, Cora]
When county sheriff Cab Johnson gets a hunch, he's learned to trust it, and his hunch tells him Rose Bellingham is in a peck of trouble. Bad enough he's in love with her, bad enough she's already engaged to Jason Thayer. He's got to figure out what she's hiding before he loses her for good.
Rose can't stand one more person meddling in her business, even if that person is a handsome, eligible sheriff. She's been controlled for far too long. But since her fiancé's father is both her boss and landlord, she can't dump Jason until she's got somewhere to run. She's found the perfect place: a patch of forest outside town. But with Cab watching her every move, she's hard pressed to finish her hideaway so she can make her escape. Meanwhile, she's not the only one with problems. Can she find a way to help her friends, too?   AMAZON 4.5 STARS

I really liked this book and its main characters.  Rose is so nice that she pretty much gets told what to think, feel and do.  She's so nice that others just run over her with their control.

At first I couldn't figure how Fila was part of the story. At first I wondered if I had the right book.  It did take me some time but I did enjoy that part of the story as well.  Fila was fighting for her own freedom.  I did begin to see the similarities between Fila and Rose when it came to being controlled.  But don't misunderstand, Fila had lived a much harsher life, beginning when she was about 12 years old.  And that's all I'm going to say about that.

I liked Cab as well, he was such a good guy.  A lonely one but with his eye on Rose.   He was a sheriff but he was also so over his head trying to figure out Rose and what was going on with her.  He finally began to understand that  she had a desire to run her own life and that it wasn't anything against Cab.   But she had found some of her backbone and was starting to assert herself.  She isn't all the way free  but she was getting there.  And it was refreshing to see Cab begin to encourage her and stand by her efforts.   I have to give Rose credit, she came up with some pretty outrageous, ingenious ideas...

Love, romance, great friendships develop and also just the right amount of dangerous, life-threatening danger add to the story.
It all comes to an end (no cliffhangers) in a satisfying way and that includes a H.E.A.

Trust by Design (Colorado Trust Series Book 2) by [Netzel, Stacey Joy]
Cinderella and Prince Charming...brought together by chance, or design?

Interior Designer Gina Allen is flat broke thanks to a shady assistant who didn’t pay the taxes. Now she has no choice but to accept a job from the very rich, very handsome CEO Dean Daley—even though he’s accused her of conspiring to steal his software designs.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer—that’s why Dean hires his rival’s ex-girlfriend. If he can use her to prove Jack is behind the spiraling downfall of his company, he might be able to turn things around before losing everything.

Dean, however, doesn’t count on Gina being everything he never expected, or his heart being in more danger than his business. Will the trust they’ve built be enough to keep them together—or will an unexpected betrayal tear them apart…and possibly cost them their lives?  AMAZON 4 STARS

The story has 2 good main characters; both having been screwed over by the same person.  Gina's ex-boyfriend Jack, who was was slick, greedy and possibly more dangerous than anyone ever knew.  But for the most part he seems to always be a step ahead of just about anyone who tries to beat him.  How can that be?
Gina and Dean's first meeting is unusual and easy to understand when it comes to Dean's suspicions about her.    Oh, the heat was there but this isn't going to be an easy slide into a H.E.A.   Yes, there will be one but not until a whole lot of things get sorted out.
I liked the fact that both Dean and Gina were very skilled people and if unhindered can and did accomplish some really good things.

Both Dean and Gina have good friends who play a part in the story as well.
I do have to say that a time or two the story felt like it dragged a bit.  But between the 50ish/60ish mark things start to really pick up.  Action, some surprises and romance all pick up.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion of it.

The Bargain (Regency series Book 1) by [Putney, Mary J.]
Forced to wed to keep her inheritance, independent Lady Jocelyn Kendal finds an outrageous solution: she proposes marriage to Major David Lancaster, an officer dying from his Waterloo wounds. In return for making her his wife, she will provide for his governess sister. But after the bargain is struck and the marriage is made, the major makes a shocking, miraculous recovery. Though they agree to an annulment, such matters take time. . .time enough for David to realize he is irrevocably in love with his wife.

Haunted by her past, Jocelyn refuses to trust the desire David ignites in her. She never counted on a real husband, least of all one who would entice her to be a real wife. But some bargains are made to be broken--and his skilled courtship is impossible to resist. . .AMAZON  4.5 STARS

This book had really good main characters and some pretty interesting supporting cast of people too.
Jocelyn seems to have it all; seems being the operative word.  She was scarred by her parents divorce.  More than anyone realized; even more than her beloved Aunt Laura knew.  It's still affecting her choices to the current time.  It also almost costs her the happiness she really desires.

David, was a good hero for the story.  Even his struggle as he nears death is well written.  He is at peace with it  but probably the laudanum he was taking for the pain helped in that area as well.  His only concern was for his sister Sally.  When he died she would have no one and would be dependent upon finding work as a governess.  She is with a good family right now but David was concerned with her future.  It's the only reason he even considered "the bargain" .  David is a man of honor and humor.  I enjoyed the way he interacted with Jocelyn even when things weren't going in his favor.  He has had some horrendous things happen as a child.  Both David and Sally had been tormented by their older 3 half-brothers for years before they were kicked out of their home along with their mother.  That happened when their father died and didn't put enough protections in place for his beloved second wife.  He was relying on the goodness of his eldest son.  Too bad that trust was misplaced.  He had no idea how cruel his sons from his first wife were.

The friendship between the two was sweet and believable.  Everything is fine unless the "L" word is mentioned.  That love word is the one word that is guaranteed to send her running.

Sally, Sally, Sally.  She is David's sister and she loves her brother and is fiercely protective of him.  She is a prim little governess with fire in her belly and I really enjoyed watching her story develop too.

All in all, I liked it and it has a good ending.

Cindy Jacobs: 'Stop Complaining and Start Releasing My Word Over Your Situation!'

Cindy Jacobs: 'Stop Complaining and Start Releasing My Word Over Your Situation!'

This is a prophetic word from Cindy Jacobs. You can listen to the full message spoken by Cindy Jacobs on by clicking here.
You will find that the impossible becomes possible...
And the Lord would say, “There are many that have not been releasing My words over your situations. You are complaining, you are fretting, you're not sleeping, but I would say to you, if you would take My Word and begin to speak what My Word says, you will find that the impossible becomes possible. You will see those things that are troubling you begin to go from the troubling list to the miracle list.”
“For I would say to you, I have plans for you. I have plans to bless you. I have plans to prosper you, so do not think that these mountains in front of you are greater than My ability to move miraculously for you, but I,” the Lord says, “I cannot move miraculously to the level I want to, because you are not cooperating with Me. Give me some faith to work with. Speak faith out of your mouth. Say, 'This situation, this mountain, will be removed.' Haven't I said in My Word, 'If you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be so?”
“But I would say that many of you are spending time complaining, worrying, being troubled, rather than taking the sword of the Lord, My Word. For I love My Word," says the Lord, "And I love it when you speak it to Me, because when you speak My Word to Me, then I can bring from the supernatural realm into your current events that which needs to happen. I am longing to do that," says the Lord. "I want to do that. I am ready to perform My words," says the Lord. Amen.
I think we will just do that right now. Father, even I, Lord, if there have been ways that I complained and not read your Word or decreed your Word, I'm so sorry, Lord. So I just thank You, Father, that You are ready to perform Your Word. You're just waiting to perform Your Word and I thank You for that, Father. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Wanted: A Wife for the Sheikh (Desert Kings Book 1) by [Fraser, Diana]
Crown Prince Malek of Sumaira needs a wife. Fast. Or at least his country does. Malek was happy living the life of an international lawyer, but when his brother disappears he has no choice but to become ruler of one of the Middle East’s most wealthy and turbulent countries. He needs respect, he needs stability, he needs a wife—preferably with no history—fast.

And Sophie, his new PA, is more than happy to help him find one. She’s landed the dream job—well paid, lots of travel and no time for love. Computer-whizz Sophie has hardly left the house for the past few years while she’s cared for her mother. And now, with her mother gone, she’s determined never to be tied down again.

But will working day in, day out, with this Michael Fassbender clone make Sophie change her mind? Will the idea of being tied down by him become something she thinks about obsessively, something she needs to get out of her system before it’s too late for either of them…AMAZON  3.5 STARS

It was a mixed bag, in some ways predictable but not totally.  Sophie was a person written as someone of really good character.  It was interesting how she got drawn into Prince Malek's orbit.  There is a fair amount of chaos in his "camp" because he is suddenly thrust into a role he hasn't been raised to take over.  But I have to give him credit for trying his best to help his country and his people.
The attraction develops over time as the friendship and trust does too.
The usual politics and posturing happens as expected but the book does have a few unexpected surprises as it nears the end.

The Husband Maneuver (With This Ring? Collection): A Worthy Pursuit Novella by [Witemeyer, Karen]
1890s Texas. Marietta Hawkins has been in love with ranch foreman Daniel Barrett since she came home from school three years ago. Unfortunately, her father's rule about hands not fraternizing with his daughter has kept him out of reach. She believed patience would prove a virtue in winning him over--until now. He is leaving. Starting up his own spread. To have any hope of maneuvering him into a proposal, she has to act fast or lose him forever. AMAZON 4 STARS

quick, fun read with good main characters.  It also starts out in an interesting, different kind of way.  At first I thought I was reading the actual story when Dead-Eye Dan was introduced.  But it was a story within the real story.  That was nicely done and continues in a good way throughout the book.
Marietta (or Etta as she is sometimes called)  does start trying to move fast when it comes to Daniel.  But nothing seems to be working....

Daniel is a man of honor who has given a vow to Etta's father and he's a man who keeps his word.   He's not going to flirt, encourage or make any move on her while in her father's employ.   But then he's not even sure she feels anything for him when it comes to the love department.  Well, things are going to get a lot tougher for him about that.
Sweet H.E.A. ending.

Worlds Away: Sci-fi Alien Romance (Alpha Alien Abduction Tale Book 1) by [Hendricks, J.L.]
Slavery, or mate to an Alien Commander? Which would you choose?

Paris had lost her parents at a young age and instead of going into the foster system, she ended up on the streets. Sure, life was tough for a 17-year-old girl with no one to turn to, but she made her way on the streets of Los Angeles for years. That is, until one day when she was no longer on the streets, or even on Earth

Commander Venay of the V'Zenian Empire was a man on a mission. It was his responsibility to ensure a good lot of human slaves made it back to his planet each year. But this time it was different, he saw her across a field and knew he had to have her, at all costs.

The choice was simple, Paris could be a slave on the V'Zenian home world, or she could become Venay's mate and provide him with the offspring his people so desperately needed! Until the V'Zenian's most venomous rival, the Zateelians, attacked Venay's ship and forced them to crash land on a distant planet. Paris had a new choice to make: save herself or help Venay exterminate aliens who have a sinister plan for the humans. AMAZON  4.5 STARS

I liked this story; it was clean and interesting. Paris was a fighter and a survivor because she has had to be.  She's smart too which helps a lot.  I enjoyed watching her trying to survive her new situation.  She's not one that typically would go quietly into the night to her fate so that resistance makes sense.  And she doesn't crumble right away which I liked.  She did try to help others, whether they were alien or human.

Venay was a character that you could see had a job to do but he also showed tenderness towards Paris as well.   He has his hands full with Paris because even when he tries to protect her, she's a  scrapper not afraid to get in the middle of things.  They also have a major difference between them when it comes to the abducting humans to be slaves.  Paris just figures there has to be a better way.  And knowing her she will probably find it.  That doesn't get resolved in this book but some better treatment is given to those captured after Paris intercedes for them.

This book has what I consider a Happy Ever After For Now, going on.   If you wanted to you could stop right now and I think you would be satisfied.  OR you could continue on with another book and keep the adventures going.

Saabrina: Tanglewood by [Cohen, Seth]
Bob sees a white flash fill Saabrina's rear view mirror. “Oh crap.”

“Bob, we may be about to have a problem with reality.”

Protecting the worlds of the United Star Systems is all in a day’s work for a Saab and her Sentinel, until Saabrina and Bob inadvertently cause a break in spacetime with potentially universe ending consequences. A congresswoman on the warpath, failing science experiments, bad concerts, and Saabrina's misadventures may be the least of their problems.

Saabrina: Tanglewood, book 2 in the Saabrina series, takes you on a galactic odyssey with Bob and Saabrina, where partnering with an amazing AI equipped spaceship gets a Sentinel’s job done in style, but memory, love, and loss may be the keys to the survival of our universe.  AMAZON 4 STARS

This book was a mixed bag for me and I found it hard to rate. I'd have to say I liked it with some reservations.  Some parts I liked better than others.   It took me awhile to get into the story, to find my balance in it because it was so out of the box.  Plus I also thought it might be more helpful if I had read the first book.  I didn't realize that there was one before I started this one.  I said I found my balance in the story but I'm not exactly sure that is totally truthful.  About the time I thought I did, I was caught off balance again and had to try to figure out what was going on in the story.

I will say that there was more than one time that I laughed out loud because of some funny shenanigans.   And most of the time the culprit was Saabrina.  No one takes advantage of someone she cares about on her watch.

Sentinel Bob and Saabrina work together so well and have such a tight bond that it was fun to read that part.  In fact it did have a family, got your back feel to it that I liked.
Even Rebecca, Bob's daughter was a part of that bond at times.  It's like Bob and his family are "adopted" by Saabrina.  Rebecca has good feelings about Saabrina as well.  They even have some girls night out.  Which of course causes them to run into trouble and it's a good thing that Saabrina was there.  That "incident" was an interesting twist.

The "world" building in this book was pretty good and kept me on my toes.  The parts that dealt with the trips to Mexico were like flash backs and those I had a bit of trouble with but they weren't the whole book.

The story does have some surprising twists, surprises and some form of "revenge".  Maybe the word revenge is too hard because it's more like shutting the mouth of a nasty power hungry Congresswoman.  That was  really well done and made me smile.

To Win Her Heart by [Witemeyer, Karen]
Do They Have a Fighting Chance at Love? After completing his sentence for the unintentional crime that derailed his youthful plans for fame and fortune, Levi Grant looks to start over in the town of Spencer, Texas. Spencer needs a blacksmith, a trade he learned at his father's knee, and he needs a place where no one knows his past.

Eden Spencer has sworn off men, choosing instead to devote her time to the lending library she runs in the town her father founded. When a mountain-sized stranger walks through her door and asks to borrow a book, she's reluctant to trust him. Yet as the mysteries of the town's new blacksmith unfold, Eden discovers hidden depths in him that tempt her heart.

Eden believes she's finally found a man of honor and integrity. But when the truth about Levi's prodigal past comes to light, can this tarnished hero find a way to win back the librarian's affections? AMAZON 5 STARS

I have to say that after reading this book it has quickly become a favorite of mine. I quickly fell in love with Levi within just the first few chapters. The author did a good job of drawing you into feeling his failures and his longing to make his life over into something good. He was humongous in size, and has suffered so much for the mistakes that he has made. He wants to be the man he was meant to be and after turning his life over to God he hopes he gets that chance to prove himself. He has a speech impediment that often causes people to wonder if he is just a big man who just might not be that smart. He keeps his words slow, careful and few. Even Eden wonders at first about his intelligence.
The sheriff of the town was a swaggering bully, written just perfect to make you hate him. He's also trouble just waiting to happen. He has his eye on Eden and seems to think he has the right to push her around like he owns her. She has refused his marriage proposal time and again, but he just refuses to hear it. He continues to act jealous and possessive and that puts Levi right in his sights as a rival; a dangerous place for Levi to be. Levi has a past that had violence in it and Eden has an aversion to violence which it makes another difference between them. They were already two unlikely people to get together. A refined well to do petite librarian and a massive, unrefined, works with his hands blacksmith. Loved the two of them anyway and was rooting for a HEA for them.

God and their faith played an important part of the story and I give the story the highest rating I can.

What will my life be like? Who will I be? Whether girls put these concerns into words or struggle anxiously with these thoughts, during this season of change, girls have questions. Sometimes these questions also come with fears and they need a safe place to process these fears. From Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker and blogger, Lynn Cowell, comes Faithgirlz Brave Beauty: Finding the Fearless You. For girls 8-12, Brave Beauty brings tweens 100 courage-building moments to reflect on Scripture and find confidence in God, rather than in someone, some place, or some thing, as culture will all-too-soon tell them to. Lynn will also prepare girls to:
  • Overcome confidence-defeating thoughts and stand on who Jesus says she is.
  • Shape her self-worth on Christ and overcome the temptation base it on environmental factors.
  • Build a strong foundation to face the fickle and flippant opinions of others.
  • Find approval of herself even when she lacks the acceptance of others.
  • Find security by turning to Christ as she steps through the exciting, yet scary world of growing up
Formatted as theme-based mini chapters, these moments can be read as one-a-days, one-a-weeks, or at the reader’s own pace. Simple and empowering, Lynn’s voice is relatable and conversational, making it easy for girls to feel like they’re spending time with a friend. This inspirational read will be set as a gorgeously foil decorated hardcover, with beautifully formatted pages in line with the well-known and loved Faithgirlz look, and with an easy-reference index to look up any topic.  AMAZON 5 STARS

What a great gift this book would be; it's attractive and solid in appearance.  The only thing missing is a lock and key.  I am saying that partly tongue in cheek because of what the author said about it being like a personal diary.  As I read through it I could see what she meant.  It's like a friend talking to you, presenting information in a easy to understand way.  Then the reader has the opportunity  to answer small quizzes as they  think things through and write it down.
This "Diary" is definitely interactive but not in a difficult way. At the end of each chapter there is a "Getting to Know you short" quiz  or "Becoming Brave" simple action.  Each end of Chapter does have a "Courageous Call" short prayer.
Lynn also shared that it's a go at your own speed kind of book, whether you read all the way through the 100 days moments or you go 100 weeks or somewhere in between.  She called it a Journey and I liked that.
There were examples and stories both from the Bible and from living people.  It made for a good mixture.  The Bible examples were also presented  in an easy to understand way as well.  It didn't feel like being talked down to but talked with.

P.S.  I am setting this book aside for one of my granddaughters who is coming close to this age range.

I received the book in this post compliments of ZonderKidz via Handlebar Marketing however all opinions are my own.

How to Lose a Lord in 10 Days or Less (Tricks of the Ton Book 3) by [Michels, Elizabeth]
He's the perfect gentleman...
After years hidden away from the mockery of the Ton, proud Andrew Clifton, Lord Amberstall, is finally ready to face Society again. But when his horse is injured on the road to London, Andrew finds himself literally thrown at the feet of the beautiful, infuriating, and undeniably eccentric Katie Moore.
...she's anything but a lady.
Katie always preferred the stables to society, so when she was badly injured in a riding accident, she was more than happy to retreat to the countryside and give up the marriage mart for good. She never expected an infuriatingly proper lord to come tumbling into her life-and she certainly never expected to find herself wondering what it would be like to rejoin the world at his side. They couldn't be more different, and soon Andrew and Katie find themselves at odds about everything but the growing passion between them...and a keen awareness of a threat that may end their unconventional romance before it has even begun.  AMAZON 4 stars

I liked this book but I wouldn't say that it is one of my favorites of the series.  It was good but it didn't quite grab me like "Desperately Seeking Suzanna" did.

Andrew was such a stick in the mud for the most part and Katie was one wild child "lady".  That is not all her fault though because from the age of 11, she pretty much raised herself.  Society's rules are foreign and unwelcome to her.  And even when she does run up against them, she's not all that impressed with what she finds.  Things need to make sense to her and most of them don't make sense to her.  She's used to wearing breeches and being free to do as she pleases.  After all, there really wasn't anyone all that involved in her life. Her father was pretty much an absentee one.

At the times Andrew isn't being a stick in the mud, he is actually kind of nice.  He does have plenty of redeeming qualities when he isn't being arrogant.   This story does start out with action as Andrew is being stalked on his way back home.  That part continues through the story until the evil mastermind is identified and stopped.  The quarreling friendship and then the romance does develop between the two main characters.  That won't be easy but the evil plans are stopped and they get their H.E.A.

Wow, this story was something else. I really liked it a lot!  Both of the main characters had a rough start in life and the book clearly shows that in the opening chapters.   It drew me into the story to care about what happened to them pretty quickly.  They were both INTENSE people.  Gavin's charm and "I don't care attitude" covered it but it was there.
I guess another thing I would say is, "Language, Language, Langue!" Both Samantha and Gavin have quite the liking for the "F" word among other things.   Sam often shocked those around her with what came out of her mouth.  But I really liked her, she was quite the unique person.  She had got caught up in some things that were outside of her control but she did the best with what she was dealt.  She completely confused Gavin, he had never met any woman like her.  And he was used to women falling at his feet as easy conquests.  Sam fought him every inch of the way, with both her mouth, her attitude and her guns.  And then some things happened where she had to rely on him.   I really liked her a lot but had to wonder more than once as she married Gavin, "how in the world is this going to work out?"  She was so in over her head.
I just have to say that there were some interesting secondary people in the story; ones that I enjoyed as well.
I will say that it had some dark moments in the story but at least it didn't go super deep into it.
There were plenty of twists, turns and evil villains too.

A Season of You: A Cloud Bay Christmas Novel by [Douglas, Emma]
It’s Christmastime in the quaint island town of Cloud Bay, where love is always in season... Will Fraser has believed in love at first sight since the day he first laid eyes on Mina Harper five years ago. There was only one problem: She was happily married. Then, when Mina’s husband was killed by a drunk driver, Will figured she’d want nothing to do with a guy who owns a whiskey distillery. So he’s kept his feelings locked away, knowing that not even a Christmas miracle would be enough to melt Mina’s heart. . . Mina believes her days of true love are behind her. Since losing her husband she’s kept to herself, content to do her own painting and stay out of the limelight that comes with her famous family. But when, after a freak accident, Will comes to her rescue, Mina can’t quite get him out of her mind. As curiosity turns into a fling during Cloud Bay’s first Christmas Festival, she finds it harder to convince herself that her feelings for Will are just mistletoe-inspired. Could Mina be ready to lay the past to rest and finally admit that what she really wants for Christmas—and forever—is Will? AMAZON 3.5 STARS

Although I liked both of the main characters, I am rating it a 3.5 Stars on Amazon,  The struggles were real for both Will and Mina but the story didn't quite grip me as much as I would have liked.   At times I did feel bad for Will because he has loved Mina for so long and is facing an uphill battle.  One that he's not sure he can win,  Mina is still recovering years after her father and husband died.  She felt that she already HAD the one man in her life that she loved.  And she wasn't so sure that would happen again or if she even wanted to go there if there was another chance at love.  I do have to say that it felt like the story bogged down a few times especially before the 50% mark.  And this issue is one of the things that were repeated quite a few times.  Also the alcohol issue and the fact that Will and his brother are involved in the making and selling of it,

There were some good characters who were secondary to the story including Mina's family members. There was a good family feel to the story, as well as the Christmas Festival on the Island.  There were also some F bombs in the story.
There is a hard fought for H.E.A, along with a question that is not answered about Mina's dead father.

With This Christmas Ring by [Collins, Manda]
A wallflower determined to fulfill a dying promise, the rogue she jilted years ago, and an orphaned baby are all brought together amidst the magic of Christmas in this new novella from Manda Collins.
Miss Merry Parks makes a deathbed promise to a schoolfriend that her infant daughter will be taken to her absent father. There’s only one problem—to find the baby’s father, she’ll have to consult his cousin, Viscount Wrotham, the man she jilted five years ago. The man she couldn’t forget.
Alex Ponsonby, Viscount Wrotham, is stunned to find Merry Parks—looking more lovely than ever--on his doorstep with an infant in her arms. His shock soon turns to dismay when he learns his own cousin William is the man who abandoned his wife and child. As head of the family he’s duty bound to see right is done. But he can't let this opportunity pass. He’ll take Merry and the baby to his cousin, but he’ll woo her back in the process.

Merry agrees to travel with Alex and the baby to Wrotham Castle, where the entire Ponsonby family has gathered for Christmas, but her plans to see the baby settled then leave are ruined by a snowstorm. After five years apart, Alex and Merry will spend the week getting reacquainted. Perhaps it’s the spirit of the holiday, or the magic of the season, but there could be something else in the air this Yuletide…A Christmas Reunion.  AMAZON 4 STARS

A charming, sweet story.  But don't worry it's not all sweetness and light.  There are several, meaning more than one of course, really nasty people in the story.  How interesting that they are all women!

Merry and Alex make for good main characters, both separately and together.  And they have been separated for five years because of manipulation by one of those nasty people.  But there is even more to that part of story than either of them ever knew.  But that information comes out as a twist towards the end of the story.  And there will be several surprises that happen as well.  Merry and Alex trying to get back together isn't one of them.

This book has no cliffhangers, but does have a H.E.A.

Desperately Seeking Suzanna (Tricks of the Ton Book 2) by [Michels, Elizabeth]
Her Cinderella Moment

Sue Green just wanted one night to be the pretty one. But a few glasses of champagne and one wild disguise later, she's in some serious trouble. Who knew the devastatingly handsome face of Lord Holden Ellis would get in the way of her foot? And how exactly did all that high-kick dancing start in the first place? At least she blamed it on her new persona—Suzanna—so Society's most eligible bachelor will never find out the truth.

All Holden wants is the truth. Who was that vixen who seduced him so thoroughly, then disappeared? The only one who seems to have any answers about Suzanna is Miss Sue Green. She's promised to help him find his mystery woman, but she's not being all that helpful. And the more time Holden spends with Sue—witty, pretty, and disarmingly honest—the more he realizes he may have found exactly what he's been looking for all along...AMAZON  4.5 STARS

What a fun way to have the main characters really meet for the first time.  It was what got my attention to read the book in the first place and it delivered.

Sue's mother was of the worst sort and it was almost hard to believe how nasty she was to Sue.  She was so hurtful and didn't even see how wrong it was.  It made it pretty easy to be drawn in and hope that Sue would be recognized for how valuable she really was.

Sue, might not be classically beautiful but she was pretty in her own way.  I remember Holden being glad that no one had seen that before he did.  Although, he was often pretty clueless when it came to seeing that Sue was "the one" he had been looking for.  She had a side to her that was Suzanna, a bit wilder and definitely more passionate.  She was also a very talented artist.  She was quirky in a way I enjoyed.  She also had times where what she thought came out her mouth before she knew it.  She caused Holden to laugh often and she refused to dance with him.  But that's a whole different part of the story.

Sue isn't the only one keeping secrets though and some of Holden's were dangerous.  The big one being his dead mother, she isn't dead. It's been at least 25 years that it's been believed that she was.

There will be plenty of surprises in store and I enjoyed the flow of the book.
Because of this book, I am picking up some of the others by this author to read.  It looks like it's more quirky women ahead.
There is a quick peek into "How to lose a Lord in 10 days or less".  It looks pretty promising.  It's now on my TBR list.

The book dedication was a nice one, that brought a smile to my face.  One of the nicest mother-in-law ones that I've read.

BOOK REVIEW- LEXIE by Kimberly Dean

Lexie (Triple X Book 1) by [Dean, Kimberly]
Desire is a double-edged dance.

Lexie Underhill works her tail off in hopes of winning her adoptive father’s approval. It’s never enough. The stinging proof? He’s brought in a reorganization expert. As if the prospect of losing her job in the family business isn’t enough, Cameron Rowe’s sexy, intimidating presence makes her palms sweat.

When Lexie’s face appears on a scandalous freeway billboard, her protestations of innocence go unheard. With orders to save the family name—or else—she marches into the bar the billboard was advertising and comes face-to-face with an identical twin sister. Roxie is wild and free, everything Lexie isn’t. Before the night is out, she welcomes the chance to explore her own sensuality.

As she dances wantonly on the bar, suddenly Cam is there, kissing her as if he has the right. The sizzle between them breaks out in four-alarm desire, but Lexie has recalibrated her life plan. And the equation doesn’t factor in Cam—until she’s sure where his loyalties lie. With her…or her father’s company. AMAZON

I really liked this book and it kept me involved in the story pretty easily.
Lexie and Cameron made really good characters.   It made me smile that Lexie thought of Cameron as The Hatchet Man.   And even called him that a time or two.  She definitely didn't trust him and saw him as a corporate shark, determined to destroy the family business.   You could feel the tension in the very first chapter.
Cameron played his cards close to his chest even though he knew Lexi was terrified about what he was up to.  He gathered points in my book when he often defended Lexi, even against her own family.
It was pretty clear he thought she was beautiful AND brilliant.  The way he sees it she also works too hard and is underappreciated.  He also wanted her and knew he had a fight on his hands.
I don't want to say too much because the story needs to unfold the way it does.  Just prepare for several surprises and enjoy the ride.
Yes, there will be several sexual encounters but also a H.E.A.
I now am interesting in the other books in the series.
