**Book Review- AMISH JUSTICE by Ann Malley

★ When the ravening wolf is in your soul, where can you run? ★

Scripture says, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” A timeless warning since human nature is fallen and the devil, like a lion, seeks to devour all that he can in every age.
But what can one Amish woman do? Where can Naomi Boentreger turn once she realizes that the false prophet lives in her own soul? Is the sheep’s clothing that she thought was pure merely a disguise that will ravage her and the only family she has left? The family she wanted is gone forever since she stayed in Justice, Maryland instead of following her heart.
Her faith-filled choice is cold comfort, but believing is what she must do.

Undercover and working a case he’d rather not, FBI agent Daniel Graber, an Englisch raised as Amish, is conflicted by more than the nefarious activities of Aaron Esch, the suspected power behind an international drug trafficking scheme. A missing Amish girl is another something thrown into the mix and justice, true justice, demands answers.

Daniel can only hope and, yes, pray that Naomi “Mimi” Boentreger is not involved in criminal activity. Prison would be a far better option than the horrible death that may claim his one and only love if he doesn’t step lightly. But how? How when all he wants is to secret Mimi away and live the life that life denied them? The time has come for Daniel to believe!

This was a well written story with plenty of emotions and drama.  Add in the suspense that has to do with some hidden evil as well.

I liked both of the main characters and found myself really liking Daniel a lot.  He sure had made some serious sacrifices.  Naomi had made some herself even if they were a bit different.  I liked when Daniel recognized what a strong woman she was both in her character and her faith.

I enjoyed this story although it wasn't exactly a favorite.  I liked that this story was a bit different than some of the other Amish stories that I have read. It also comes to a good ending.

What a wild ride this story this was with me liking some parts better than others. There were plenty of strong characters in the story with Jane seeming to be a weaker one; always someone who didn't like confrontation.  But things are about to turn her every which way without letting her loose.   It was good to see her develop her backbone although it did take a while and some unusual circumstances.  Nicholas was quite the wild card and I enjoyed his point of view as much as Jane's.

The story was well written with strong family elements.  Family both by blood and from a grown kinship.  There is plenty of danger, betrayals and the unpredictable action coming from so many directions. There is also a LOT of detailed sexual times between the main characters.  I probably would have enjoyed a bit less of that. But at least there was a story in there that kept the suspense sharp.

It has a good ending for now with a happy Epilogue.  But still knowing not all the dangers have been contained. Or in other words killed. But it's a start.

***Book Review- You Can Run (A Laurel Snow Thriller Book 1) by Rebecca Zanetti

"General Fiction (Adult), Mystery & Thriller, Romance"

Laurel Snow wouldn’t call hunting a serial killer a vacation, but with a pile of dead bodies unearthed near her Genesis Valley, WA, hometown, she’ll take what she can get. Yet something about this case stirs her in unexpected ways. Like the startling connection she feels to Dr. Abigail Caine, a fiercely intelligent witness with a disturbing knack for making Laurel feel like she has something on her. Then there’s Laurel’s attraction to Huck Rivers, the fish and wildlife officer guiding her to the crime scene—and into the wilderness . . .

A former soldier and a trained sniper, Huck seems to have his own secrets, not least of which are his whereabouts the night yet another woman disappears. And when the body is dumped where Laurel can’t help but find it, she knows this cat and mouse game is deeply personal . . .

Once in the heart of darkness with Huck, Laurel must negotiate her conflicting feelings for him, her complex rapport with Abigail—and her mission to find a serial killer among a growing list of suspects and a danger that’s far too close to home. So close in fact, Laurel fears she will never find her way back to the woman she once was . . .

After finishing this story, I just wanted to jump up and shout, whistle and applaud because Wow what a great story!

The people in the story were off the charts unique, interesting and drawn with great depth. Flaws and all, something that they all had as well as some really unique skills too.  Beginning with brilliant but socially awkward Laurel and grumpy "leave me alone" Huck.  His search and rescue dog, Aeneas was probably more social than he was.  One thing that Laurel and Huck found out  they had in common was they didn't work closely with others. And that presents some problems.

As time went on they did gather some pretty interesting people.  Walter Smudgeon who seems like such a misfit, also Kate and her daughters, Val, Viv and Vida.  They were a continual surprise.  And a good one at that. Even Laurel's quirky mother was drawn more into the story and held her own surprises.

This story was filled with plenty of other surprises and tense drama.  Even though we are talking about cruel murders, it was unraveled in a good way when it came to finding out who was behind it all.

It all ended with a good ending which left me wanting more of this group of people and their community.  I really do hope there will be more as a series because dang! I really liked Laurel a lot.

Book Review- Kell: (Macklins of Whiskey Bend Book 4) by Shirleen Davies**

Kellen Brooks is a broken man. Leaving his position in Special Forces three years earlier, he fought hard to build a new life and heal his damaged body. Working for his close friend, Boone Macklin, gives him purpose and a reason to focus on the future. Nothing else matters except soothing his wounded soul and reclaiming the family ranch.

Bethany Hutchison is determined to reach her goal of being accepted into law school. Working as a paralegal in a prestigious firm, combined with hours of classwork, takes all her time. Other than daily runs, nothing else could fit into her already packed schedule.

Kell’s early morning runs on the high school track, strengthen his recovering body and clear his mind. Nothing interferes with each day’s goal, until a beautiful, leggy blonde sprints onto the track, stealing his breath.

As their fragile connection builds, an unexpected danger threatens to destroy whatever future they may have. Friends of Kell’s are being targeted, and now the assailants are after Beth.

Kell, book four in the Macklins of Whiskey Bend Contemporary Western Romance series, is a stand-alone, full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger.

I liked both Kell and Bethany. And also their friends who have become more like family than just friends.  That was definitely Kell's experience even more than Bethany's.  Because wow his family basically screwed him over.  His father especially was a man without honor. The men who surrounded Kell were the exact opposite.  They were loyal, honest and were more like good brothers who supported each other. Boone, Del, Cliff, Zane,  are just a few of the names of people that had a part to play in this story.

The on and off friendship and romance between Kell and Bethany was easy to be pulled into. I think that's because the emotions and struggle was well shown.

The mystery and suspense was good in this story.  There was at least one man who was running for his life as things started to be uncovered.  Of course, Kell and others needed to watch their backs as well.  Bethany being pulled into danger is something that Kell has feared all a long.

The ending to the story comes with a sweet Epilogue.

When I read the book information I liked what a different, unusual angle it presented.  I thought it held a lot of promise and I was hopeful that it would deliver.  And for me, it did !

Mike/ Mark had me pulling for him quickly because of the groundwork that the author laid. The emotions were there, as was the injustices that he had gone through. The struggles that he had been going through and what he was going through now was well shown.  As was his attraction to Molly.  Molly who was strangely attracted to Mark, feeling almost like she knew him.  How could that be when they just met?

There was a slew of suspects without leaving me feeling overwhelmed.  There is plenty of surprises but with a very happy note as it comes to the end.

*Book Review- The Heiress (Madison Sisters #2) by Lynsay Sands

Whether she's enthralling readers with the exploits of her Argeneau vampire family, transporting fans to the Scottish Highlands, or enchanting them with love affairs of the noble lords and ladies of the Regency ton, New York Times and USA Today bestseller Lynsay Sands knows how to pen a winner! The Heiress-the second book in the very sexy, very funny Regency romance series she began with The Countess-is further proof of Sand's historical romance mastery. The winning tale of an alluring beauty desperately seeking a poor husband, The Heiress is exactly the kind of sharp and witty read that fans of Julie Garwood and Teresa Medeiros-not to mention Lynsay's own army of aficionados-are looking for.

I gave this book a lower score because I had read Book #1 and this was a lot of do-over in this book.  Yes, I can see where it had to lay a basic foundation but it was too much re-hashing for me.  Which is a shame because I was really looking forward to this story .  I wanted to read about Suzette and Daniel. Mainly because of how bold, unconventional but also loving she could be. And Daniel how much he was amused and intrigued by her.  That did lead to some humorous times.

There were dangers and misunderstandings as well as some pure evil but it also leads to a H.E.A.

***Book Review- Lover Girl (Lover Boy Book 2) by Stephen Kronwith

Humor | Mystery & Thrillers

Description

In a novel filled with comedy, romance and edge-of-your-seat suspense, a legendary, retired hitman and a younger, ambivalent assassin join forces to rescue a kidnapped child, while they, themselves, are being hunted by a third, sadistic predator––with orders to kill them both.

Sammy, ‘Lover Boy’ Vivino, the retired legendary hitman, answers his doorbell to find a beautiful young woman at the threshold. Her silenced pistol aimed at his heart, however, quickly dashes any hopes for romance. For this woman is Angelica Fortuna, a conflicted, wisecracking assassin, nicknamed l’angelo della morte – The Angel of Death. Her father, Philadelphia’s Don Vito Fortuna, has sent her to New York with one simple order: kill Lover Boy!

Angelica, though, has her own agenda and soon joins Vivino in a daunting, desperate race to rescue a kidnapped child, while simultaneously falling in love with another man she barely knows. Unfortunately, because of Angelica’s paternal defiance, she and Sammy will soon face an additional, deadly obstacle – another Fortuna assassin. And this sadistic killer has equally straightforward orders: kill Lover Boy, l’angelo della morte, and whoever stands in the way.

Lover Girl, book #2 in the Lover Boy series, combines often hilarious dialogue, tender romance, and nail-biting suspense while concurrently examining the true value of family and friendship – all climaxing in two, edge-of-your-seat battles for survival you won’t soon forget.

This was my first entrance into this series and I think the first time reading anything by this author.
I was NOT disappointed.  The people were interesting and complex and there is plenty of drama, humor, unexpected romance, danger.  Okay there was also some violence too.  Nothing super over the top with that though.
From the beginning Angelica and  Sammy Vivino/Sammy/ a.k.a. Lover Boy pulled me in with their very dramatic first meeting.  And they pulled me right along all the way through.
There is several different dangerous plots that both Sammy and Angelica are thrust into but they definitely rise to the occasion, time and again.  They also began to gather Sammy's old friends and some new friends to band together as a new "family" group. I liked that.  The help that they wanted to give concerning the kidnapped child is something that helped band their new family group together.
When I finally got to the end of the story, I felt like I could finally take a "Whew" breath.  It was just that intense!
It had an ending filled with hope and made me want to hope that there would be more to this series.

Wow, what a story that was.  It started out intense and never let up.  Totally unpredictable when it came to what was going to happen next. Although the story does seem to be more thriller mystery with it being a bit lighter on romance. But it's so well written I just can't fault it for that ! Hey, they were trying to stay alive!

Chloe was smart, skilled and terrified as she tries to escape.  To keep out of the clutches of the person who wants her to die ..painfully. And that killer is smart, resourceful, ruthless and relentless.  Also someone who will kill anyone else who gets in his way.  It's too bad for Weston and his family who step up to help. There is definitely pain involved for them when they do.

Chloe and Weston begin to know each other and develop a friendship first as he tries to keep her safe.  She had been trying not to get too close to people in this town because she was pretty sure she was going to have to run again.  That was one of the things that had kept her alive so far.  But she's finding it harder and harder to leave.  And then adding in Weston, that made it worse for her running plan.

I have to give the author credit also because of how detailed, in a good way, that the story was.  You could almost feel yourself in the setting.  That was kind of scary but it was also set up to have the reader rooting for the "good guys" to win.

I was unprepared for the MAJOR twist that happens towards the end.  It brings even more danger to Chloe and Weston.  But the ending was worth it all.

Zoey definitely marched to the beat of a different drummer.  And she was TERRIFIED of marriage.  That was on her no-no list.  It definitely led her into some interesting situations especially when she meets up with Rylan.  Someone even she says that she never saw coming !

One person that she has been a lifelong friend with is Hannah.  That is someone who really gets her even though they are also different in some of their personalities.

There is plenty of emotions to the story and the people had depth to go along with their challenges.  However, this story just didn't grab me even though I have to say it did have some humor in the story. Which I do like having in a story.   In fact at least once I actually did laugh out loud.

I'm sorry author but the ending didn't really do it for me either.

3.5 STARS

This story was intense at times, emotional and had plenty of challenges and people of depth.   I never warmed up to the mother-in-law Barbara because oh my gosh, what a bully and tyrant.   And so many people put up with it..until a few of them didn't.  And Barbara was shocked when she didn't get her way.  She saw it as a betrayal and was bent on punishing if she could.

Mackenzie was definitely the best of the group but a couple of her sister-in-laws had some strengths too.  Stephanie was still trying to find her way but Four (Catherine) was secure in who she was.  Mackenzie's husband Ryhs was a surprise as things went on.

The information on wines was well researched by the author although that isn't something that I am all that into.

It has a good H.E.A.  And while I liked some parts of the story, it just didn't pull me in as much as I would have liked.  I'm still someone who enjoys this author just not as much on this book.  Maybe because there were times it seemed to drag with re-hashing of a few different parts.

Abby, what a character she was. And I became her cheerleader, rooting for her in almost no time at all.  Her attitude of not putting up with foolishness, her smart -mouth that hides a tender heart.  Oh yes.  Now figuring in Smitty, there was another great main character, bossy, over-protectiveness and all !  He spends a lot of time showing how trustworthy he really is.  There was a friendship before and it does develop into a romance that is all Abby and Smitty style.

There is plenty of action, danger, twists, and surprises in this story.  It kept me on the edge of my seat, which I like.  I started this book late in the evening which was a mistake.  Why?  Because I had to put the book down to go to sleep and I didn't want to.

The ending was just as good as the whole book was.  I was VERY satisfied.

** Book Review- Gemini Divided by Lauren Kristen Roberts

This book was a whole kettle of different.  Even a bit different than what I was expecting.  Well, it did start out kind of like was expecting and then took a major turn.  One that I did enjoy.  The story also had me wondering right along with Jen.  Wondering if Will was as good as he appeared or was he just that excellent an actor BOTH onscreen and off.  That part kept me busy.

Jen was definitely caught between a rock and a hard place but I still managed to like her.  Even sympathize with her too.  There was plenty of emotions to the story beginning with Jen.

Once Jen begins to learn more and starts to put some pieces together, things REALLY take off!

Throughout the story I kept wondering how on earth things could ever work out for the good.  So, the story really did keep my interest there.

Can you guess how everything is going to turn out?  You'll have to read the story to find that out.

Book Review- Finding Edward: A Novel (Save Me Book 3) by Suzanne McKenna Link

Finding Edward is the lighthearted third book in the compelling, romantic Save Me series. An adventurous, wild ride through the beautiful Italian countryside.

This was an emotional and also at times a sweet story with a romance. That inheritance that Eddie/Edward was given to him by his grandmother really did change his life.  It also at times took him on a roller coaster of feelings and changes while in Italy.

I liked that the title is shown why it fit so well.

I also liked how in his corner Claudia was.  She was the wife of Eddie's best friend Toby who was also his boss.  The family was so good and I enjoyed how sweet Eddie was with their little girls.

The time spent in Italy was almost like a travel log with the different culture, foods, language and places.  Very well described.

The friendship between Edwardo (hey, when in Italy) and Ivyla developed well.

I was happy with the somewhat slightly predictable ending.  They all worked hard to get there.

** Book Review- Code Name: Virgo (Zodiac Tactical Rescue Unit) by Janie Crouch

My code name is Virgo. The stars say I’m practical, honest, stubborn as hell.

Guilty as charged.

Zodiac Tactical is the company that gave me a second chance. We guard, protect, rescue...eliminate the threat when nobody else can. And as a former SEAL, I’m good at those things. Good with weapons, good with missions.

But with people...not so good.

So when a gruesome enemy takes Bronwyn Rourke, one of Zodiac’s newest young recruits—with blue eyes that take up nearly her whole damn face—I shouldn’t take it personally. Shouldn’t allow her to consume my every thought and become my only mission.

They took her because they thought she was alone. Easy prey. That no one would fight for her.

They were wrong.

My code name is Virgo. And I will grind my enemy to dust to bring her home.

If you're looking for a story that is clever, intense and that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this one will do that.  It was totally unpredictable but with such great main characters.  And Bronwyn just couldn't seem to catch a break, for quite a while.  But she did have Sarge (Virgo) in her corner as much as he could be. Sarge was helping her in unexpected, unusual ways that added additional depth.  They started as a friendship that went way beyond just that.

There was also really good supporting people in the story too.  Actually that's a good way to describe them because they were a supporting, got your back group.

The villains in this piece were super evil with some really scary agendas.

The ending of the story was a good one that left hope for the future.

This book had all the "feels" to it.  And I was on Xavier's side like at the speed of light.  The author did a great job of drawing me into both of the main characters. They showed the depth of their personalities, their hurts, their challenges and even their successes.  There was such tenderness on Xavier's part too. And the fact that he loved his family so much didn't hurt either.

"X' is what Peyton called Xavier when they were out of the public eye and that made me smile.  X has the family that Peyton no longer has but she doesn't get how much they adore her.  Well, not until later at least.  Peyton does have one best friend, Kate who would protect her to the end.  But she is snarky with X calling him "Moneybags".

This story was not only sweet but it also has some heat later on.  It was also unlike any other stories I've read.  Just on the social anxiety of a rich businessman who's a nerd, part alone.  That idea sparked my interest and kept me involved.

And I just have to mention that the descriptions of places like the family home in Napa, Nate's home and some of the fundraisers and the offices was well fleshed out.  A+ for the details.

I really liked that the title of this book is shown to be a really good decision.  In fact, it's perfect.

And so is the ending of the story.

I fell headlong in love with the people in this book.  Not only because of the people but also because of the off the charts humor.  Please understand though, humor didn't overwhelm the story. For me it's a keeper, which I will want to read again.

I loved Jane and her spunk.  Also her spunky and funny conversations with Levi.   Sure she was running from putting down anything permanent but at heart she was so kind and loving.  That is IF anyone was allowed to get close to her.  Charlotte has had to work hard to get close to Jane but she was also someone who wouldn't take no for an answer. Not only did she become Jane's landlord but also wormed her way into becoming her friend.  It was on Jane's terms but Charlotte understood and was trying to get Jane to see that she was family now too!

This story began to feel as much as Charlotte and Mateo's story as it was Jane and Levi's.  And I loved that and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of that "dance" too. It was like two stories in one.

Both Mateo and Levi had large, loud, families that loved their people hard.  Levi's family especially added to some of my smiles.  It wasn't all smiles and giggles though because some grown up hurts were part of the story too.

Some other things that added some smiles was when Jane did a prank on Dr. Daniel Briggs. It was funny and brilliant.  Even better, she also didn't get caught. I also liked her private term,"Splat Syndrome" for risk takers on the slopes.

And I can't forget Peyton (Levi's niece).  I just have to give just one of her funny responses.  When she was asked what she was scribbling in, she said, "It's my secret diarrhea."  Out of the mouth of babes.

The Epilogue was excellent.  Perfect ending for the story.

There was a short discussion section at the end of the book.

I just have to say that I can see that the title of this book really fit.

This book was a good one filled with a lot of surprises.  Although it did feel like it started out kind of slow.  But the time that it took getting started did set a really good foundation of how things were.  But there were a whole LOT of surprises and twists as the book got about 3/4 of the ways through.

Cordelia (the aunt) was one controlling piece of work.  I really hate bullies and she was a top winner for that award. Of course Cordelia wasn't the only one who was super controlling.  Cecile's father was also controlling but out of love and fear of his losing her.  It was NOT healthy but at least he loved her, which her aunt definitely did not.

Lise might not be rich and pampered like Cecile but she did have her freedom.  Anne was someone who raised her with love and affection.

Zach and Sam were such good additional main characters, who were well able to keep me interested in the story.

You know there is going to be danger and there was actually even more than I thought.  It was a good surprise, well at least for the reader.

There is a hard fought for H.E.A. bringing it all to a close.

Crimson Holiday starts out with a bang.  Or would it be more accurate to say a murder?  It's a well written mystery and romance as well.  Shelby spends a lot of her time in a panic.  But it's also pretty easy to see why.  That panic often causes her to make a few bad decisions though.   Still both Shelby and Rand are good main characters.

There is a lot of twists and turns to the mystery but there is a HUGE double whammy towards the end.  H.E.A. though is a nice touch too.

Book 2- Crimson Nightmare- follows the sister Pippa who was in the first book as Rand's sister.   Another good mystery with plenty of possible suspects. I have to say that I liked Pippa but I wasn't so sure about Sky for a long time. He just had too many secrets of his own.

Turns out this story also had excellent twists and turns until the real murderer was revealed.  Making for an excellent ending.

Overall, I'd say this was a good 2 stories in one book. The first story I liked a bit more than the second.

A good story but..  I really didn't enjoy the going back and forth time-wise early in the story.  It was done in a way that I am NOT a fan of.  But thank God, that part finally came to an end and I ended up with the story all in the current time.  I know that the past was necessary though for some of the foundation having to do with the twins and others. Things really took off though when it came to the current events.

Gabby does have the main focus in the story of course being a friend of Maggie's.  And Maggie is loyal to a fault.   Rachel  is another woman who shows up as a person of interest later in the story.

The perfume, "Miss Dior", shows up at a few kind of eerie times.  It was mentioned that maybe it was a sign that they were on the right track.

This story as good as it was still felt a bit different than some of the other stories in the series.  Maybe just not as intense?

The title totally fits this book and I like how that comes out towards the end.  And the ending was good as well.  Everything is taken care of with justice served a tamer "Sisterhood" style.

What a great story this turned out to be. Starts out strong and just keeps going.  Unpredictable all the way.

Even though I think this was the first book in this series that I've read, it was easy to keep up.

Asher and Paige hooked me in pretty easily when it came to the both of them. Strong characters even with their flaws.  And Paige had a bit more than I expected; what a surprise that was.

Now of course, I want to read the next book,"Delta Force Die Hard (Red, White and Built: Pumped Up Book 3)".  It has me also wondering if this book will bring the answer to one question that wasn't answered yet in this book.  What happened to or is happening to Asher's commanding officer?  Major Rex Denver is still missing.  Can it be proved that he is NOT a traitor? Either while he's still alive or will it be posthumously.

I read this through the HOOPLA (Library app).

*** Book Review- The Countess (The Madison Sisters Book 1) by Lynsay Sands

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lynsay Sands trades in highland kilts for lush ballrooms and high-waisted gowns in The Countess, the first in a brand new, sexy, laugh-out-loud funny Regency romance series. Fans of Julie Garwood, Jill Barnett, and Teresa Medeiros will adore The Countess, and sympathize with her hilarious attempts to cover up the untimely demise of her despicable husband, even as the late earl's twin brother sets her heart aflutter. The much-adored creator of the popular Argeneau vampire family paranormal romance novels, the incomparable Lynsay is equally adept at historical romance-as this wonderful Regency romp so emphatically demonstrates!

I ended up really enjoying this story a lot !  At first, I wasn't sure I was going to but it didn't take long to get drawn into the dangerous comedy of errors.  And the developing romances.

The plot is actually pretty good with Richard being so much better than his twin, George.  But what a time he has proving who he really is and that he is a good guy.  And it's going to take a whole lot of convincing before Christina will believe it! Although she is shocked by how attracted she is to her "husband" Dicky.  That we find out later is a nickname that the real Richard HATED.

Daniel is former best friend comes to the conclusion much faster than anyone because of course he knew both of them.  And he knew George was an out and out selfish rotter.  Daniel is an interesting character who adds a lot to the story.  But so does Robert, who has been a lifelong friend of Christina and her sisters.

Speaking of sisters, there is Suzette who is a independent, firecracker of a woman.  Then there is Lisa who is the optimistic, romantic of the group.

The next story is "The Heiress" and I'm interested in it because it has to do with the second sister, Suzette.

Book 3 carries on into Lisa's story, "The Husband Hunt".  I'm going to read them both.  I just hope they are as good as this first one.

I read this story through the HOOPLA Library app.

* Book Review- Announcing Miss Theodosia (Once a Wallflower Book 3) by Maggi Andersen

 Historical Fiction, Romance

Description

Take an independent miss, a gentleman intent on changing her mind, a dangerous foe, and stir in a whirlwind romance.

Theodosia Tothill attends her first Season with the conviction that all men control their wives. Even her brother’s wife, who used to have opinions, is now intent on filling his nursery and talks of nothing but babies.

Inspired by her poet aunt, Thea intends to remain unmarried while pursuing her dream to write for newspapers. But her father, wary of her restlessness which has exhausted nannies, governesses and run her parents ragged over the years, is just as determined to see her safely married to a good man.

At her first ball, Thea puts her plan into action. While avoiding a gentleman intent on dancing with her, she escapes onto the terrace. Forced to retreat into the garden, she overhears a frightening conversation through the open window in the room above her. A man comes to the window and peers out.

Tackled from behind, she rolls into the shadows, to be held by a strong male body and a voice in her head which urges her to be quiet.

Thea embarks on a dangerous adventure with Lord Ashton Grainger, who she considers controlling and annoyingly inscrutable, but oh, so attractive. And her father, furious at discovering her intention to avoid suitors, becomes more determined to marry her off. He has chosen the man Thea and Ash overheard coldly planning another man’s death. Rather than reveal all to her father, who would send her back to the country, Thea avoids the gentleman intending to work with Grainger to uncover what lies behind the murderous plot. But annoyingly, Grainger refuses to indulge her.

Ash has his own concerns. He dances with debutantes at balls merely to humor his grandfather, the Earl of Highworth, who is keen to see him wed before he dies. After the family suffered a terrible tragedy, his grandfather has become a virtual recluse. With the belief the earl has years left on the earth before he needs to marry, Ash intends to continue his bachelor existence. Until he receives disturbing news which forces him to make a snap decision that will affect both his and Thea’s lives. He comes to realize it was something he wanted all along. But does Thea think the same?

When the murderous foe widens his net to include an innocent child and Thea in his sights, Ash must take matters into his own hands.

When Ash and Thea first meet it's in an amusing way.  Both Ash and Thea were both lovely main characters.  And the description of the world around them was well done.  The whole story was well written.  It has a main villain which adds dangers to the story.
The story does have a good ending and does have a H.E.A. and Epilogue.
Although I liked the story, it wasn't one that really grabbed me.  I wish it had.

Great story with plenty of hold-your-breath moments.   And that starts right off the bat in the opening minutes of the first chapter.  It turns out that there are plenty of people to choose from that are fighting against Eli and Ashlyn. Finding out the who and the motives along with intense action keeps this story hopping.

I usually like a little bit more romance in a story but there is some.  Also plenty of regrets on both of the main characters part.  But it didn't overwhelm the story which I liked.  There is also some tenderness while they were busy dodging bullets.

Overall a pretty good story that kept me involved to the very end.

I read this book through the Hoopla app.

Amazon didn't allow me to leave a review.  Made me scratch my head.   They just WEREN'T allowing any more review.

This one was a bit tough to figure out in the beginning because this was the first time I was reading this series.  The thing about Shadow Riders threw me at first but didn't really take too long to get the hang of it.

I found this story hard to rate because of the different elements. I found this story hard to rate because of the different elements. Some I liked others not so much.

This book was well written but yes it does have violence in it of course. There is also romance but also a LOT of detailed sex.   Although well written after a while I just started skimming through that part.

The world building was excellent as was the information on both the  Ferraro and Saldis families. Emme had a HUGE family. Someone else who played a big part was Val's cousin and trusted friend, Dario.  One of Emme's closest friends was, Elie and he has a story that needs to be told.  We did get a quick peek into his life though.

On another note if I had realized there was human-trafficking in the story I might not have picked it to read. Yes, I know it's happening but still...

There are plenty of twists and turns to the story.  It does come to an interesting end.

Who will be next in the stories, Elie or Dario? I'm  guessing it's Elie and the woman he rejected and regretted ever since.

I read this book through Libby, the Library program.
