BOOK REVIEW- Every Bit a Rogue (The Ellinghams #4) by Adrienne Basso *

Description

When a young lady sacrifices her reputation to save a viscount, it’s the beginning of an extraordinary adventure in Adrienne Basso’s captivating Regency tale . . .

Jon Burwell, Viscount Kendall, knows what the gossips say about him. They claim he’s been a dejected, half-mad recluse ever since he was jilted at the altar. The simple truth is that Jon has thrown all the passion he once had for his fiancée into his latest mechanical invention. But his single-minded existence has lately been shattered by repeated encounters with Miss Emma Ellingham, his neighbor’s intriguing sister-in-law . . .

Painting and sketching have been Emma’s consolation since her own secret heartbreak. When she stumbles upon the viscount’s workshop, his machine revives her artistic imagination. The gentleman himself is even more fascinating—and deeply seductive. When Jon is accused of a crime, Emma risks her good name for his sake. But though the threat of scandal compels them to wed, only courage can overcome their pasts, and allow desire to transform into love . . .AMAZON LINK

Although I kind of liked both of the main characters.  They were different than the conventional expected normal that society of their times demanded.  However, this story just never seemed to really get me to like it as much as I had hoped.  For me, it was hard to keep really interested when not a lot really seemed to be happening. Sure, there were a few things going on but it just seemed to lack some real depth as well; even with both of them giving their own point of views.
Both Emma and Jon had good family members that were part of the story.  It just didn't hook me into the story all that much.  I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either.
There is a H.E.A. which I did feel like they deserved because they were both good and honorable people.

BOOK REVIEW- Wild, Wild Rake (The Cavensham Heiresses) by Janna MacGregor

 Description
Wild, Wild Rake, the next sweeping, emotional, witty, and sharp romance in the Cavensham Heiresses series from beloved author Janna MacGregor.
Her first marriage was an epic fail.
Lady Avalon Warwyk never did love her husband. Arrogant, selfish, and cruel, it’s a blessing when she’s widowed and left to raise her son all by herself. Finally, Avalon can live freely and do the work she loves: helping fallen women become businesswomen. She’s lived these past ten years with no desire to remarry—that is, until Mr. Devan Farris comes to town.
Can he convince her to take another chance at happily ever after?
Devan Farris—charming vicar, reputed rake, and the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian—is reluctantly sent to town to keep tabs on Avalon and her son. Devan wishes he didn’t have to meddle in her affairs; he’s not one to trod on a woman’s independent nature and keen sense of convictions. But she’ll have nothing to do with a vicar with a wild reputation—even though he’s never given his heart and body to another. If only he could find a way to show Avalon who he really is on the inside—a good, true soul looking for its other half. But how can prove that he wants to love and care for her. . .until death do they part?   AMAZON LINK
                                      5 STARS

I loved this story from start to finish.  It grabbed me early and never let go.  It was emotional, with great main characters and other people in it that included Avalon's son Thane, her sister Sophie just to mention a few.
It was a story that had great sorrow in Avalon's case but also some joys as well.  Just none of them had included any men in her life because every man had betrayed her in the past.  Her father (and mother) had basically sold her for their benefit.  It went downhill from there with no one really looking out for her. No one especially no man protected her.  It sets a good foundation for part of the story and her fight to no longer be manipulated.  There is one surprise when it comes to a woman Mary who did stand up for her at an important moment.  Mary added so much to the story too although maybe not a "heroine" that you would usually expect.
Ah, Devin.  At first I thought he was so cruel to call Avalon, Lady Warlock.   And it definitely puts her back up, time after time.   It also leads to some interesting clashes.  He has quite the wicked sense of humor along with a caring heart.  He does have something in common with Avalon and that he also refuses to be manipulated by others.  His brother is one of those that tries to do that and he does have a certain amount of leverage because of his powerful elder position. He loves Devon but he sure tries to bend him to his way of doing things.  I have to admit I didn't like him at first but time shows that there is more to him than just that.
Hang onto your seat because there is plenty of surprises, twists and turns in the story.  There is also some scripture mentioned in the story, Song of Solomon being the main one.
For me, this story was a winner that ended on a sweet H.E.A.

BOOK REVIEW- For the Sake of a Scottish Rake by Anna Bradley *

Description

After a sheltered upbringing, Lady Lucinda Sutcliffe is finally embarking on her first season, eager to experience everything she’s missed. When Lucy realizes that her uncle plans to quickly marry her off in exchange for a slice of her fortune, she begs a favor of a new acquaintance, Ciaran Ramsey. If Lucy remains single until she turns twenty-one, she—and her money—will be out of her uncle’s power. All the charming Scot needs to do is woo her for six weeks, and then jilt her . . . The Ramseys don’t need the scandal of a false engagement attached to their name. But Lucy’s older suitor is both distasteful and dangerous, and Ciaran can’t allow his lovely friend to be forced to marry such a man. And besides, the more time Ciaran spends with his new “betrothed,” the more their ruse begins to feel very much like the real thing. Passion like this is impossible to feign, but how much is a rogue willing to risk for love?. . .AMAZON LINK
           3.5 STARS

This book starts out slow, building up the friendship between the two main characters.  Lucy challenges Ciaran in good ways and with her what you see is what you get.  She is refreshing and totally honest.  She also has been somewhat isolated and without true friends because of her strange upbringing.  But when she meets Ciaran things begin to change for the better.   Although at first Ciaran is determined that he doesn't need another friend and most definitely not a woman friend.  But Lucy is way too lively and welcoming to resist forever.  In fact I do like that fact that eventually he realizes that she helped bring him back to life.    Something that his family has been racking their brains on how to help him.
Lucy's uncle Jarvis is a top notch villain and just as slippery and evil as they come. However, it didn't take long to like his daughter Eloisa and Aunt Jarvis.  The relationship between the three of them was a good one.  Uncle Jarvis had them totally terrified and under his mean thumb.  There was also a friendship that developed between Lucy, Eloisa and Lady Felicia.  Making Eloisa and Felicia and their possible romances a good addition. There is also some tender moments and humor in the story too.  Lucy's feelings about learning to dance the Quadrille being like the 9th circle of hell being one of them.  Having said all of this... although I kind of liked the story, and I did like the M.C.'s, the slow pace pulled the story down for me.  I ended up with mixed feelings about it but it does come with a sweet H.E.A.

BOOK REVIEW- Space Junk : Houston, We Have a Hottie by Sara L. Hudson

Or will it be a failure to launch?   AMAZON LINK

What a fun romp this story was.  Funny and quirky with most of that endearing quirkiness coming from Jackie.  Jackie is a genius with a fount of information always ready to explode out.  She's not only a genius but she is also a shy, giving woman who has missed out on so much growing up.   With so much head knowledge constantly churning in her mind, she is also socially inept.  She misses cues that everyone else would pick up on.  She made me smile so many times.  And one of her favorite saying that pops out of her mouth at time
(Holy Mercury!  ) also makes others smile too.

Adding to the fun is mouthy Jules, an astronaut currently in space.  She has always been Team Jackie even though they are so wildly different.

Flynn is not someone that you would automatically think would be a great match with Jackie.  How wrong you would be.  He is strong, honorable, successful and so tender with Jackie so often.  The romance between the main characters was enjoyable. So was some of the funny moments between them too.  But hey, he's not perfect, he does have his issues.  One of them being gold diggers.  Flynn and Jackie because of it.
I liked the friends that Jackie picked up along the way.  That would be Trish and Rose who is Flynn's sister.  Rose is one wild child with fierce sense of loyalty.  I would love to read both of their stories also.  Oh, and not to be forgotten Jules romance story.
The only down side for me was when the science while done was also a bit deeper than I would have liked at times.  Other than that, this is definitely a series I would like to continue to read.

What a great story! I did my usual reading a book in a series out of order.  *sigh.  I read Book #2 White Hot and was so intrigued by the mention of this first book that I just had to read it too.  It did NOT disappoint.  And now that I know more of the BEFORE it makes me want to go back and re-read White Hot again.  I now have more insight into Nevada and Mad Rogan's history.  It's hard to believe that I would enjoy it more because even without this book, it was a big hit for me.
Now... back to  THIS book.  The world-building, the different Houses (of Power) the building of the cultures and the different magical skills and powers was out of this world great!
The main characters were engaging and  Nevada has such spunk and take-no-prisoners attitude.  She doesn't take any flak off of Mad Rogan even when she is in a less than a powerful position,  I liked that gal a lot.  Some of the conversations between Nevade and Mad were pretty funny.  So add the fact that the humor is pretty good and there is plenty of danger and action.  Speaking of danger, that "fire-starter" they are pursuing is one scary, dangerous guy with a lot of other powerful people protecting and aiding him.

Nevada has her own code of honor that she lives by.  It's a pretty high one when you look at some of the other people around her.  But that doesn't mean her family though.  They add so much to the story.  Her mom, grandmother, sisters and cousin all have their own strengths and distinct often funny personalities.  They also live by a code of honor that is usually at least 3 rules.  Something that Nevada shares in the story.
All in all, I enjoyed every last bit of this story and it left me wanting more of the adventures.

BOOK REVIEW- Explosive Engagement (Shotgun Weddings Book 2) by Lisa Childs *

GETTING MARRIED MAY BE MORE DIFFICULT THAN COMPLETING HIS MISSION.

Nothing has fazed Logan Payne in his entire career as a bodyguard. That is, until he's tasked with protecting his biggest enemy. Stacy Kozminski isn't too thrilled about having to work with Logan either, but when attempts are made on her life, she knows he is her only hope if she wants to survive.

Soon, a target is placed on both their backs, and they have no choice but to stage an engagement to protect one another. Logan won't let Stacy out of his sight. But is it because he doesn't want to fail his assignment…or because he's come to care for the gutsy and gorgeous woman—the only woman who's ever gone toe-to-toe with him   AMAZON LINK
                                                       4 STARS

Plenty of mystery, angst, danger and enemies that are drawn to each other anyway.  It's been a lot of years of Logan and Stacy hating each other.  And both families have a lot of reasons for hating each other too.  The only hold out on that is Penny Payne.   She's lost a lot since her husband was one of those that was killed.  But she still has such tender compassion for others. And Stacy is one of those that she has drawn  into that circle for years.  Even Stacy's twin brother's can't escape her compassion either.
There is plenty of surprises and dangerous near misses when it comes to the attacks against the M.C's.   An even bigger surprise twist awaits at the ending.  Stacy and Logan do get their H.E.A. however.
I read one other book in this series.  Book 3 "Bridegroom Bodyguard" is where I started and it made me want to read this book too.

BOOK REVIEW- An Everyday Hero by Laura Trentham

Description

From award-winning author Laura Trentham comes an emotionally layered novel about redemption, second chances and discovering that life is worth fighting for.
At thirty, Greer Hadley never expected to be forced home to Madison, Tennessee with her life and dreams of being a songwriter up in flames. To make matters worse, a series of bad decisions and even crappier luck lands her community service hours at a nonprofit organization that aids veterans and their families. Greer cannot fathom how she’s supposed to use music to help anyone deal with their trauma and loss when the one thing that brought her joy has failed her.
When Greer meets fifteen-year-old Ally Martinez, her plans to stay detached and do as little as possible get thrown away. New to town and dealing with the death of her father in action, she hides her emotions behind a mask of bitterness and sarcasm, but Greer is able to see past it and recognizes pieces of who she once was in Ally. The raw and obvious talent she possesses could take her to the top and Greer vows to make sure life’s negativities don’t derail Ally’s potential.
After Greer is assigned a veteran to help, she’s not surprised Emmett Lawson, the town’s golden boy, followed his family’s legacy. What leaves her shocked is the shell of a man who believes he doesn’t deserve anyone’s help. A breakthrough with Ally reminds Greer that no one is worth giving up on. So she shows up one day with his old guitar, and meets Emmett’s rage head on with her stubbornness. When a situation with Ally becomes dire, the two of them must become a team to save her—and along the way they might just save themselves too.   AMAZON LINK

Loved, Loved this story.  Let me count the ways!
First off, my mouth dropped with the opening words of the first chapter.   I liked how we saw how the community service judgement was brought about.  If you want details about that, that first chapter should clue you in pretty good.  Even in that serious situation, there will be some humor too.  In fact, this author did a pretty good job of blending serious issues, humor and sarcasm.  I liked the flow of the story a lot.  I was pretty much engaged with the story throughout. It's now on my "Keeper" list.

I like stories with great, interesting main characters and this story had it.  Greer had a way of approaching life that not everyone appreciated but she is definitely unique.  She would also describe herself as lost at this part of her life.  That probably helps her connect with others that people have not been able to connect with.  She may have a kind heart but she also is not afraid to kick-butt when needed.  And I found her sarcasm off the charts funny!  If often disarms people around her.  They are surprised and often finds themselves laughing almost against their will. One of the best descriptions of Greer was when she was thinking about how she was probably being taken off Emmett's case. She thought of just letting sleeping dogs lie. " Trouble was, she was prone to crossing lines and waking up dogs."
Emmett had some serious issues and nightmares that were written in a way that was pretty real to understand.  He just wants to drink and waste away to forget everything!  Oh, he won't commit suicide but isolation and the self-neglect is definitely there. Isolation and self-neglect that Greer ruthlessly interrupts.   Don't think that Greer is totally fearless though because she does know she is in over her head. She just keeps putting one foot in front of the other and does the best she can.  The same thing with Ally, one of the girls in her community service project.  Both Ally and Emmett are tough nuts to crack but they do keep things interesting.
Both sets of parents (Greer and Emmett's) are worried for their children.  Even if they are adults, they want to help and add a lot to the story.  Not all of it helpful at first, because they just don't know what to do.
I liked how there was a twist towards the end of the book. Man, I should have seen that coming after all the books I've read.  But I didn't and I like that the author surprised me!
The Epilogue is even a better addition to the story with just a few surprises as well.  But the H.E.A. is not a surprise but it is very welcome.

I'm not sure if I have read any other books by this author.   But after reading this book I will be on the look-out for others.

BOOK REVIEW- Bridegroom Bodyguard (Part 3 of the Shotgun Weddings series) by Lisa Childs

  21489558
In Lisa Childs's Shotgun Weddings miniseries, a confirmed bachelor must walk down the aisle to protect his newborn son Someone is trying to kill bodyguard Parker Payne. But what's more shocking is the woman who shows up claiming he's the father of her child. The baby boy is Parker's spitting image, but how could he have forgotten a passionate encounter with this woman with caramel eyes? Sharon Wells has raised Parker's son since his birth. Now with a homicidal maniac coming after her and her son, it's Parker's unexpected proposal that may be the real danger. Sharon knows Parker just wants to protect them. But with passion flaring and a murderer intent on completing his personal mission, any distraction could mean the difference between life and death.  AMAZON LINK
                                         4 .5 STARS

I really liked this story a lot. It had great main characters, good secondary people and the tension was top notch.  I especially liked Penny when she showed up in the story.  That would be Parker's mom.
It was a nice touch to have a short list of the characters in the story at the beginning of the book.
What a lonely, loveless life Sharon has led.  But baby Ethan is someone who does love her and she has poured so much of her own love into him.  She's protected him with everything she has.  Sharon has a whole lot of doubts about Parker even though she was told to trust no one but him.
The story starts out in a physically explosive way that catches Parker in the blast.  It's not going to be the only explosive surprise headed his way. Hearing that he has a son is one that definitely tosses him on his butt for a while.
There is plenty of action, danger and the Payne family pulling together that I enjoyed.  Sharon and Parker pulling together was also something enjoyable.  They have to work through quite a few doubts about each other for quite a while but they get there.
The Payne family has another surprise that stuns them and that they have to work through.
The story also ends in an explosive way as well.  I liked how the person who was after them was revealed and the motive as well.  This story kept me involved every step of the way.
There is a good H.E.A.  with the Epilogue showing how they got there.

                                3 STARS

I liked this story although it wasn't super deep.  It was charming and a fast read with good main characters who shared their own P.O.V.'s.  Even though most of the information came through "Ericka".
I liked the idea of the challenges that Ericka and Leo faced when it came to his deafness.  There is also tender moments as Treat is in drawn more  and more personally.  Not only by Ericka but Leo as well.
There is a H.E.A. for all.
