Emotion vs. Will

Emotion vs. Will
One of the most powerful things that you possess is your will, and your will is the vehicle for your spirituality, not your emotions, not your mind, not your faith. Your will is the vehicle. God works in us both to will and to do, and your will is totally cold-blooded. It has no emotions whatsoever. But when you read in the Scriptures of all the great men and women of God, they all knew how to use their will.
Your will is bigger than your emotions, and God works in us to will and to do, and your will is separate from your emotions. Your will is totally cold-blooded. God set you free to choose in the power of your will whatever He wanted. So it is just flicking a switch. “I will bless the Lord at all times. I will rejoice. I will give thanks.” As your will gets stronger, what happens is your will uses your emotions to worship. So your will picks up your emotions and worships the Lord.
So we are not to be small in our will. We are to be huge in our will. Your will is bigger than your emotions, and your will needs to use your emotions, not the other way around. So often we are stunted in our spirituality because we let our emotions govern who we are. So if we don’t feel like doing something, we don’t do it, or if we feel terrible, we let that govern.
But God came to set your will free to choose who He is and what He can do.
When you present your will to the Holy Spirit, God works in you both to will, then to do. So we need to learn how to present our will to the Holy Ghost. He then comes into our will as we give it to Him, that power to choose, “You choose. I choose what You want. You come and do in me what You want to do,” the Holy Spirit comes into your will. He picks up your emotions and worships.
Every day we have a choice. The choice is always about the freedom of the will. Your will has been set free because of what Jesus did. The secret to a powerful inner life is to submit your will to who God is. It is your will that is the vehicle for your faith, your spirituality. It is the will that drives your worship, your witness, everything. It is the will that drives your prayer life, your choices, your warfare.
“I will bless the Lord.” Where is my will? Okay. Here is my will, Holy Spirit. Work in me,” and He comes in. Even on the days when you are unwilling, still present your will. Say, “Father, I am willing to be willing. Please help me.” Because you know that He works in your will both to will and to do. “So, Lord, I am willing to be willing. Please help me.”
Real strength, real, ongoing spirituality is derived from the constant presentation of your will to the Holy Spirit. “Here’s my will.” He comes, and He takes hold of it, and through it He takes hold of you. He takes hold of your emotions. He takes hold of your faith. He gathers everything up and makes it an offering to who God is.
