**Book Review- The Devil in Winter (The Wallflowers #3) by Lisa Kleypas

"I'm Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent. I can't be celibate. Everyone knows that."

Desperate to escape her scheming relatives, Evangeline Jenner has sought the help of the most infamous scoundrel in London.

A marriage of convenience is the only solution.

No one would have ever paired the shy, stammering wallflower with the sinfully handsome viscount. It quickly becomes clear, however, that Evie is a woman of hidden strength—and Sebastian desires her more than any woman he's ever known.SmSA

Determined to win her husband's elusive heart, Evie dares to strike a bargain with the devil: If Sebastian can stay celibate for three months, she will allow him into her bed.

When Evie is threatened by a vengeful enemy from the past, Sebastian vows to do whatever it takes to protect his wife . . . even at the expense of his own life.

Together they will defy their perilous fate, for the sake of all-consuming love.  AMAZON LINK

What a little gem this turned out to be.  Wow.  Surprises on so many levels.  Sebastian was just as much as a infamous scoundrel as advertised.  But then he hadn't met Evie yet.  She might not have seemed like a force though. So many people underestimated her because of her shyness and stammer.  Mistake.  BIG Mistake ! Her brutal relatives thought it would be easy to break her to what they wanted.  And soon discovered her backbone of steel.  I really liked that she also had such a heart of compassion too.

Sebastian wasn't used to anyone caring about him or looking to his needs so he rakishly took care of his own.  It was heartwarming to see him care for Evie in small ways beginning with their run to Gretna Green.  Small kindnesses started to come out of him almost against his embarrassed will.  I loved that.

The other women in the Wallflower group made me smile as they were so concerned for Evie possibly having been forced to marry.  Someone else was interest was Cam Rohan.  For years he had been such a help to Evie's father at the gambling den.  I was hoping to get more of this his story.  Not sure if he got one later on.

Twists, turns, dangerous actions keep things on the fast tract. All well written but I don't want to say too much to ruin the surprises. Surprises happen with the "romance" between the two marriage of convenience people.  Hot, detailed scenes in the bedroom (and elsewhere) do happen.  They ARE married after all.

I liked how it ended with a H.E.A. all their style.

I read this book through the library (HOOLPA)
