BOOK REVIEW- CHOSEN FOR POWER by Kathleen Brooks

Chosen for Power (Women of Power Book 1) by [Brooks, Kathleen]
Somebody is out to destroy Elle Simpson and everything in her life.
Elle has always depended on family to make her business run strong, but long work hours have left her without much of a private life. Just as Elle thinks she has met the potential man of her dreams, she also discovers an imposter determined to destroy her business and life. Can she trust this "Prince Charming" to help her defend everything she holds dear, or will she only leave herself vulnerable at the worst possible time?
Drake Charles’s work in the fast-growing mobile technology field made him a wealthy, powerful man. But he quickly sheds the fame and publicity for a more private life that earns him the label as a man of mystery. Drake adds to that mystery every year when he hosts a masquerade ball for charity. It’s also his best chance to find the one thing he really wants . . . true love.
Having met behind masks of anonymity, Elle and Drake enjoy a whirlwind night of romance that leaves them both wanting more. Elle's heart tells her to trust Drake, but years of fighting off business foes has taught her that anyone could be a potential threat. Will this new romance give them both a fairy tale ending, or spiral into a nightmare for the whole Simpson family?  AMAZON   4.5 STARS

I was pleasantly surprise, I really liked this one. Now, I have read quite a few of this author's Bluegrass series and loved them.  So,  with this one being the first one I have read of the Women of Power series, I was just hoping for the best.  I ended up really like both of the main characters but it did give me pause when I saw how quickly they fell in love with each other. I almost stopped reading it right there.  Have to admit I thought, "oh, no.  It happened so early in the story, now its going to be all about them falling into misunderstandings and trying to find their way back to each other."  Not exactly.  There was a really good story here.  Not only because of Elle and Drake together but because of business and the quirky  " I have your back" family members.  I really enjoyed the fact that the family all of Elle's family worked in the business and had their own specialty parts of the company.  Parts that they loved and excelled at.   There were other non-family members in her work force but they were treated really well.  Elle valued loyalty but she also knew how to deal with people trying to cheat her.  She had already beaten a hostile takeover; not only beaten it but made them sorry they ever tried.  She went after anyone who tried to do her bad. I liked the personal looks into her too though.  Elle and her dislike for stilettos and her love of her bunny slippers.  See, she isn't all cold- hearted tough CEO.  Drake was similar in being smart, loving and tough to take on.  He loved his family and worked hard to get where he is.  He also treats his employees well and his trusted assistant,  friend and side-kick Philip were fun to watch.
There was plenty of action, surprises and malicious attempts to destroy Elle and her company.  It was a pretty clever in what was being done.  Clever but evil.  About the time one thing would be stopped, another attack came.  It kept me guessing a lot of the time.  I like that.  Oh and the romance too.
