BOOK REVIEW- A Bride at Last
BOOK REVIEW- BRIDE AT LAST-Silas and Kate both harbor resentment over failed mail-order engagements. But for the sake of a motherless boy, can they move beyond past hurts? AMAZON
It drew me in pretty quickly. I liked all 3 of the main characters and their struggle to find love and learn to love. Anthony of course learned love from Kate, who loved him fiercely like he was her own child. And he loved her fiercely right back. Anthony's mother gave him none of that. Can you imagine how hard it would be to never have heard his mother tell him that she loved him? Silas hadn't felt any value or kindness for do many years longer and only from the janitor at the orphanage before he ran away. Kate had the longest memories of love and kindness until her parents died when she was about 12.
I didn't realize the similarities between the main characters until later. Silas , Kate and Anthony were all people who felt unloved. Each had been that way for a differing amount of time but it was still the same feeling. Unwanted, unloved unless they were needed to DO something; some way to be used by someone else. The author did a really good job of showing how much Silas had gone through and how much he yearned to be loved and valued. Also his weaknesses of fearing to opening his heart and love. He had endured a lot of rejection in his life. But... Even as much as I was pulling for him, I really wanted to smack him one when he was holding Kate at a distance. He judged her kind of harshly as a risk; because of her past history of running. I understood why of course, but they had already become friends and she already knew a few things about him that weren't very flattering too.
This is a pretty good story with some scripture and reliance on God shown as well
I received an advance copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
