BOOK REVIEW- THE SECRET HEART -She’s a fortune-hunter. He’s nobody’s prey. Adam, Earl of Bexley, lives to work. His only relief is the sordid savagery of bare-knuckle boxing. Not women, and definitely not a disreputable, scheming woman who dances in secret with such passion… Caro Small is desperate to escape her selfish family. Her only chance is a good marriage, and she intends to marry Adam—whether he likes it or not. But the more she schemes to entrap him, the more she risks trapping her own heart. Adam won’t be caught by a fortune-hunter’s ambitious schemes. But the vulnerable, passionate woman underneath the plots might just bring him to his knees. AMAZON
I have to admit that this story idea got my attention and made me want to read it. It didn't disappoint. It was so different from what I was expecting. Don't let that statement fool you, I really enjoyed the different dramas that were going on. For awhile in the beginning I forgot that Caro was an unscrupulous fortune hunter. But there was so much more to her than that. She just kept so much of her true self hidden. Men were not people that had treated her well, most of her family especially being a disgrace. Only her beloved younger brother, Robin was a bright light. She thought only people like her had a such dysfunctional families. That is until she met Adam's; then she began to see that rich families weren't safe from control and cruelty either. Adam's father was a perfect example of that. Evil, controlling and not caring who got hurt as long as he got what he wanted. There are several mysteries and secrets in the story, which leads to more twists and turns. Adam had quite the unique way of dealing with his feelings of powerlessness; boxing. Even the boxing his chose isn't quite as clean as it sounds. His father has mercilessly controlled his choices; manipulating him. So, you can see how unhappy more manipulation is to him, even from the beautiful Miss Small. Oh what a mess. How in the world will any of this work out? You're going to have to read it to find out...
Oh, its not a sexless story either.
