BOOK REVIEW- BAITED- As a rebel spy, Abby Westbrook has duped her fair share of marks and right now, she’s only a hair’s breath away from getting the current one to divulge all his secrets. So when she’s invited on a weekend trip to his estate, she figures it’s a done deal. There’s just one thing Abby doesn’t count on—her husband being one of the guests. If there’s one thing Atticus Draper can’t stand, it’s rebels. For the past ten years he’s devoted his life to the Patriot Party and their cause, which means living by the adage the only good rebel is a dead one. This theology has never been a problem until he sees Abby Westbrook, a woman who’s the spitting image of his dead wife. When Abby goes to great lengths to avoid him, Atticus realizes the truth—she’s a rebel spy. Will Atticus let his loyalty to the Patriot Party overrule the devotion in his heart to the woman he once loved, or will he find himself baited by a rebel trap? AMAZON
Intense, emotional and at times scary. I thought that this was an interesting story idea. I was surprised by the year that this story is set in and even some of the clothes and culture of it.
One thing that does remain is the cruelty of man towards others no matter how much rhetoric is spoken about how great the new "government" is. Cruelty, corruption, greed are still in place. So are rigid rules and power being exalted over others. Just a new name to it and people who are gaining things from it are still idolizing it. The author did a good job with that. Also Atticus and Abby were the central part of the story and they had a good part to play. I liked the both of them. At first I wasn't sure I could even consider Atticus as a hero of the piece. In fact I thought he might be an anti-hero. I think there was just so many things that he didn't know. He was blinded by the "bling" of the promises of this "perfect" government. I wasn't even sure I was going to like this book, I kept swinging back and forth on it. But as I continued, the intensity increased and twists and turns cropped up. And my final answer was that I liked it. One word of caution for anyone who might be sensitive, I did cringe a few times when some suggested violence was implied. There is also at least one section were violence was done and I cringed. But.... I was also glad that it wasn't overly detailed. I'm squemish at that kind of thing. So thank you author that you got your point across without that.
It was such a full book that I forgot that this was a Novella.
There is an Excerpt included at the end of the book. It looks like it is a another part of this story with a different character. The book is called,"HELD, book 4 in "The Dark Revolution.
“I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.”
