BOOK REVIEW- A Winter Promise

Innkeeper Anna Tumblesby has her strengths. She bakes a mean quiche, and she can make any weary traveler feel welcome at her cozy Archer Cove Inn. But holiday cheer? Not her thing. So when her sister convinces her to plan the town's holiday festival, Anna approaches the task with a healthy dose of trepidation and vows to make the best of it. She'll deck the halls and wear an elf suit and grit her teeth until it's all over.
Ben Tanner doesn't mean to throw a wrench in Anna's plans by showing up at the inn. All he wants for Christmas is to somehow win her back. But the Anna he finds is closed off to reconciliation, and Ben fears that the pain of their shared history may have torn them apart for good. 'Tis the season for love and miracles…but will that be enough?   AMAZON

Not your usual fluffy Christmas Story, but still a good emotional read.  Anna is such an over the top perfectionist with an incredibly soft heart.  She is so busy taking care of everyone else that there's not much left for herself.  Yes, it helps in her Archer Cove Inn business but it also doesn't help her much when it comes to being excited about Christmas.  There are other reasons too but that doesn't come into sight until later.  She's been roped into co-chairing with one of her sister's, Charis and she just wishes she'd never said yes to her.  Mishap after mishap just seems to follow her no matter how hard she tries though.  Its often embarrassing and very public.  When Anna gets stage fright her mind scrambles and her words get messed up to.  Some really awkward, hysterically funny things came out of her mouth during those times.  There were a few times even I groaned.  Add to that the verbal grief that the head of the Chamber of Commerce was giving her.  Anna often bit her tongue for her sister's sake but when she let loose some zingers, I cheered!  They were funny too!
What about Ben?  Well he is charming and is still handsome to Anna's eyes but she just can't trust him again.  He's a good time Charlie to her way of thinking.  When times are good, its fine and when they aren't he's gone.  For the  moment (to her way of thinking) he's there and helping with repairs to the Inn and building things for the Festival.
Its easy to see why some people just don't have the Merry Christmas feelings when they are still recovering from a painful loss.  This story has humor, embarrassing moments,  close family times, heartbreaking sorrow, anger, and love.  Everything that makes for a touching Christmas story.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
