BOOK REVIEW- RUTHLESS

A dangerous criminal. His enemy’s daughter. Can love conquer revenge?
Two years out of college, Angelica Bondesan spends her time working as a barista, keeping in touch with her prodigal brother, and trying to figure out how to bridge the gap with her father, a wealthy real estate developer. But all of that changes the night she’s kidnapped. Thrown into a windowless room, Angelica is positive there’s been some kind of mistake — until she meets Nico Vitale.
Gorgeous and frightening, Nico became the boss of New York City’s Vitale crime family after the execution style murder of his parents two years earlier. Since then he’s turned the old-school mob into a sleek, modern army of ruthless men who understand that physical violence — while always an option — isn’t the only way to get what you want.
Now Angel is forced to face the truth; Her father is not the man she believed him to be.
Nico Vitale is dangerous, possibly lethal.   She is falling in love with Nico Vitale.
This is not your mother’s mob.

The violence was there, the fear was there and the questioning of why she was kidnapped was there.  At first Angelica thought it was for money because her father was wealthy.  But no one will tell her anything.  She's terrified with good reason but she's sure her ransom will come.   Because although she hasn't spent a whole lot of time with her father, she does know he loved her.   Another reason to worry though, is one of her guards is one sadistic man named Dante.
Nico was an interesting character, he was in a dark business, no question.  But his goal in some ways was to make it cleaner.  His parents were murdered and that thrust him more fully into the Mob business.  It sounds like that had never been his goal in life until things changed before his father's death and he was made UnderBoss.  That turned his life upside down but he was all in now.  He had to be.  He was a mixture, not fully evil but not fully good either.  Angel compared him to a dangerous predator like a panther when she finally met him.  Still, she did her best to stand up for herself even while being held against her will.   Of course there will a time when they can't keep their hands off of each other because they are drawn so strongly to each other.  They are enemies but that doesn't keep them from getting together sexually after a while.  Resistance proved to be futile.  Yes, there was more than one or two fairly detailed sex scenes.
One of Nico's trusted men, Luca proved to be a man loyal to Nico but also someone who was often sympathetic to Angel's situation.  But he still had a job to do, so he wasn't going to be a means for her escape.
There was plenty of twists, turns and betrayals.  A few things were finished off but there were also several loose ends to be finished.  In other words a cliffhanger.   Especially in the case of Nico and Angel, they are both left hurting.
There is a quick peek into the next book at the end of this one.
