BOOK REVIEW- Cold Water Bridegroom

BOOK REVIEW- Cold Water Bridegroom-Having grown up in San Francisco, Calder Brumen is drawn to the ocean, and he's spent his life trying to capture the beauty of the Pacific on canvas. Over time, he has become obsessed with painting the image of a dark haired mermaid named Gaire, and Calder struggles to explain his devotion to these portraits to his best friend. When Calder finds sandy footprints leading to the edge of his bed, he suspects that the haunting siren is real.   Pursuing the truth, Calder is dragged into a murderous, underwater plot that could destroy them all. And he must choose – is the possibility of a lifetime with Gaire worth risking death for himself and everyone he loves?
AMAZON  I Rated it 5 STARS

Loved, loved this story.  It just seemed to draw me in and I felt like I just zoomed through it.  Before I knew it the story was closing.  A very good closing with the possibilities of more adventures ahead.
I would be interested in reading more of those adventures, especially if they continue in the quality that I experienced as I read this one.  Calder was such a great main character, one that his friends thought just might be going slowly out of his mind.   He had a dream woman and he painted pictures of her.  They thought  he was obsessed with an unreal woman and needed to search for a real one instead.  The main friend is Mike, who he's been close to since childhood.  Mike believed in him before anyone else ever did.  Gaire is the woman of his dreams/his muse but she's so much more too.   What that means begins to unfold in the story in an enjoyable way.  Mystery, murder, attempted murder, love, lost history, developing gifts and evil are all rolled into this story.  Oh and also Mike is being beguiled by an evil non-human woman.  Nice touch.  Nothing good is going to come out of that romance.

Another nice touch is what Calder's name means.  Both his first and last name have meaning that it turns out plays a part in this story.

Nice cover too...seemed to stay true to the description of the main people in the story. I always like that.

"I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review."
