BOOK REVIEW- THREADS OF GRACE

BOOK REVIEW- THREADS OF GRACE-Grace's beauty almost cost her everything. This new start is all she has left.
When Grace Beiler was only a girl, she was married off to an older Amish man in order to save her family's farm. Years later, she finds herself newly widowed and a mother to a young son. She has finally fled her sad past and plans to settle into a quiet life in Pennsylvania.  As soon as she arrives, she captures the attention of Seth Wyse, the most eligible bachelor in Pine Creek. Seth is candid about his feelings for her, and for her son Abel, but Grace is determined to protect her heart. Her determination falters when her brother-in-law reveals the troubling contents of her late husband's will.  Seth offers Grace his hand in marriage, and thus a means of escape. But despite his having saved her from another loveless marriage, Grace is slow to trust her new husband. And as the months wear on, Seth wonders if he has made a mistake. But God is quietly at work in their hearts, and Seth and Grace soon discover that threads of grace bind them together in a tapestry rich in hope and love.  AMAZON

This is a book that I was drawn to and wanted to read for awhile.  That made me nervous.  Why?  Because I didn't want to be disappointed.   I'm glad to say that I wasn't.  What a great story.  I also have to mention though, that I might need to take a small break from reading different Amish stories.  I've read several over the last week and although I really liked this one, there were times it was a little hard to read of some of the cruelty that Grace endured.  All under the umbrella of the duty of teaching godliness to someone.  Nope, it was flat out evil from a brutal husband  The author did a really good job in the beginning chapter.  She showed a young, beautiful, hopeful 18 year old girl being forced into  marriage with a scummy old guy to save her family.  He then proceeded to crush any life or enjoyment out of her from that point on.  Oh, you don't read about that in the next chapter because then you go into the story 9 years later.  But the drama of what her life had been is released over time, which I thought was well done.  The information wasn't excessive but enough to really help you get the picture pretty clearly.
Seth was a breath of fresh air in this story, incredibly patient with both Grace and Abel.  He wasn't perfect, but he loved her from the start even before their marriage he couldn't keep his mind off of her.  She just never gave him the time of day.  Of course she did the same with any other man, but he just wanted a chance with her.  The opportunity came as the book blurb says, but its not easy in any way as they start off together.  Grace is afraid to trust and even wonders if his kindness is real or some kind of a ploy.
Her son Abel was well drawn as well likable even showing his challenges and gifts in the world.
The addition of Seth's loving family was good too, they were so supportive.
Bishop Loftus was a relief.  A more godly, kind example of a bishop of the faith that those I read about in previous stories.  Yes, there were rules but there was also grace and mercy shown too.
There is a HEA but everyone worked for it.

On a final note, I really enjoyed the various, examples of grace that were mentioned and illustrated in so many different ways.
