Intriguing start. There was a pretty good building of the supernatural world that was coming against Voni, Kai and Eamon. You could almost feel the chill of the evil that was pursuing Voni. She was being tormented by Dmitrius Konstantin, who was just inches from sucking the life out of her. Not only through her dreams but even her thoughts and self doubts were intensified and designed to drive her to take her own life. Pretty good when it comes to the details of his strategies against her. But I was glad to see that she was made of tougher stuff than anyone had guessed. She might be what Kai described, as his petite pixie but she also had some steel to her backbone. And Kai helped bring that back in her. As the blurb mentioned, there is attraction and desire between Kai and Voni, so of course that part, the romance, the courting and the sexual teasing is there as well. Kai was sexy, smooth and rich and Voni was talented, loving and spontaneous (when she was her true self). Her insecurities popped up often especially when she was wondering how the "hottie" Kai could possible want to be with her. All three of them ended up having to fight for their lives, so of course there will be battles. Eamon is there backing them up all the way, even while smirking and wise cracking. You couldn't help but like him, he was a loyal friend. There was an interesting twist at the end of the book involving Eamon. As one of the evil characters implied, the game isn't over. This one was a good stand alone book, with the opening for more to follow.
On a side note: I did notice at one part of the story it slowed down a bit (I think it was during the later part of their romance) but then it started moving again. Over all, I liked it. What's not to like? Good fighting evil.
