Book Review: Don't Let Me Go (eBook)

Dysfunction multiplied.   Everything starts getting exposed with a 9 year old girl, Grace, who is desperate for change.  She waits outside every day, for hours, hoping that somebody will notice she needs help.  Her mother Eileen has slipped back into drugs and isn't there to take care of her.  Most of the time her Mom doesn't even remember she is there, just the drugs.  The apartment building is full of other highly dysfunctional people, but one of them, Billy Shine, a former dancer who is terrified to leave his apartment,  gathers enough courage to speak to her.  Almost against their will, the rest of the tenants are slowly drawn into the charm of blunt, Grace.  She needs help but she's not afraid to give it either!
Slow start, but each person in the story is slowly unwrapped to show what made them who they are today.  If I was asked to describe this book in one word?  Gritty, definitely.  It also had moments of humor, mainly in the way that Grace approached people and problems.  Still, probably not for everyone but I kept up with the story, even though there were several times when I wanted to give up on it.  I'm glad I followed it through to the end because I just wasn't sure HOW it was going end.
