Sorry to say that this story just didn't pull  me in. Even though the main characters were different and the story had potential. I didn't hate it, it just didn't move me.
I did like the name Malerie and her name's spelling.  Also her heritage came as a bit of a surprise but I did like that.  
Ace is in the job for the money. Or so he says.  He is a good guy with a stack of bills that he needs to see get paid.  But he's lying to himself when he says he's ONLY in it for the money.  
It felt at even 41% of the story that they were just chasing their tails with not a whole lot happening.
Things do get moving with some close calls.  The villain of the piece gets revealed.  I can't say that I was surprise by who it was. 
 There is also a H.E.A. ending.
