Walking away from then-fiancée Amber Talsma was one of the hardest things sexy bodyguard Milek Kozminski ever had to do. But it was nothing compared to the shock of hearing she'd been killed in a car accident alongside the son Milek knew, deep down, was his.
Amber will do anything to keep her child safe. Which was why she had to fake their deaths—to evade the assailant who murdered her boss, then came after her. But now someone has found them. And when Milek learns the truth, he'll stop at nothing to protect his son…and the woman he never stopped loving. AMAZON 4 STARS
Both Amber and Milek were really interesting main characters. Amber was just trying to keep herself and her son Michael alive. But things just keep getting more and more dangerous. There are plenty of plots against her and the attacks just keep coming. And now that Milek is back in her life, she fears for his life as well. Even though she can't understand why he tossed her aside, she still doesn't want to see him get injured or killed. And there will be people who die in this story.
Milek has been a bodyguard for some time but he is also a good portrait of a tortured artist too. He loved Amber so deeply he had to let her go. He just didn't want his family's notorious history to taint her and keep her from her dreams. But he also had a deeper fear too when it came to Amber and Michael.
To say that his family has been maligned is to put it mildly. His father and uncle had been criminals and had also raised Milek, and his brother, Garek and sister, Stacy that way. BUT..they have come a long way from that. They are now much more heroes than most people believe. Their family really stuck together and that included the people who had been included into the family. It took me a minute or two to line up who went with who when it came to couples in the family. I checked back and forth a time or two but I am glad that they were included in the story.
I will say that it would have been nice to have a little less angst from Milek about his not being good enough for Amber. But it did make his point.
Keep an eye on FBI Special Agent Nicholas Rus, he was really good in the story and he has a deeper connection to the Kozminski family too. I looked ahead and found that yes, he does get his own story too. It's called, "Bodyguard's Baby Surprise (Bachelor Bodyguards Book 1898).
And hey, how about that cover? It definitely catches the eye with his brooding intensity. It felt like it also was a good expression of how Milek was in the book. Good choice.
