BOOK REVIEW- KISS ME AT CHRISTMAS (Playful Brides) by Valerie Bowman

Bow Street Runner Daffin Oakleaf abhors Christmas. Carol singing and holiday cheer only remind him of a dark time. When a close friend calls on him for help, Daffin is happy to capitalize on the distraction. But when he learns the lovely Lady Regina is the one in danger, he’s to become bodyguard to the captivating woman...
Regina has one mission: to find a night of passion in the arms of a gentleman. Considered firmly on the shelf, Regina has given up on marriage—but that doesn’t mean she wants to be denied the pleasure married ladies experience. Daffin has long captured her    attention…and when a threat calls him to her side, the sparks between them ignite. But how can a hired bodyguard find his way into Regina’s noble heart?   AMAZON 3 STARS

This book set a good foundation for the main characters and they both were likable.  The only problem for me was that it was such a slow moving story.  Nothing much happens except for a few things until I was more than half way through the book.  Some of what happened included the tension, flirtation between Daffin and Regina.    And there was at least one bold moment between the two that later caused some awkwardness between them for a while.
There is at least two other interesting supporting people in the story.  That would be Grimaldi (Grim) and his wife Nichole.  They were a married love match who were family to Regina.  Regina also wanted to marry for love but if she couldn't have that she at least wanted to have passion before she was pushed into a loveless match.
Lady Delilah, who was unconventional  and her parrot Miss Adeline add some humor and an unexpected twist to help find the villains.
Around Chapter twenty-nine the action really starts to gear up and things start to really move all the way to the end.  And the story did end in a good way, well for almost everyone.  Not so much for the villains.

I voluntarily read an Advanced Readers Copy of this book via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion of it.
