BOOK REVIEW- BLOWN AWAY
One year after her fiancé died in a heartbreaking accident, Drew McGovern decides to honor his memory by joining his old storm-chasing buddies on their latest excursion. What she’s not so sure about, however, is whether she’s ready to move on. Drew wasn’t expecting to feel the powerful pull of desire toward Colby’s best friend. But there’s no denying the intensity of their connection . . . or the heat he inspires in the parts of her that are still very much alive.
Aiden O’Neal doesn’t trust himself around Drew. He’s wanted this girl for a long time—long enough to remember the stab of jealousy he felt the first time he saw her in Colby’s arms. Now he’s trying his best to behave himself. But when the wind starts blowing and the adrenaline starts pumping, Aiden can’t resist the urge to claim Drew as his own. Because when it comes to desire, he’s hoping to make lightning strike twice. AMAZON
This book has adult language as well as a lot of sex in the story. But you also see the guilt and struggle that Aiden has over his "love" for Drew. He doesn't think he's worthy of her and so he's so unlike his dead friend Colby. He can't see them ever having a future of any kind together. But he does wish that there was. So it ends up being quite the emotional story; especially when Drew begins to really "see" Aiden. She finds that there is a lot more to him than she had ever really thought before. She is also kind of confused for the beginnings of feelings and attraction that she is having for him. He's not an easy guy to connect with either. Both of them had struggles about their attraction to each other and it caused a lot of misunderstanding between them. Drew is no stranger to grief even before her fiance died. Its something that Aiden and Drew have in common; they are survivors. Of course they don't realize at first that they do have that in common. Drew has been Aiden's dream for so long but he's also afraid of love and maybe even being second choice in Drew's life. Its only one of the reasons he fights the attraction when she joins the team.
I liked the unusual setting. I mean how many stories/romances do you get to read about Storm Chasers? And I think it was done well, keeping up the tension and interest all the way through.
Murphy (Murph), lead researcher and team leader, was someone who turned out to be an interesting person as well. The way he is written, you kind of wanted to protect the genius guy. The other team members were interesting too, each unique in their own ways.
Dot was another interesting "character", because she's a 70ish fun personality with kind of a direct way of speaking to Drew. And I mean, direct. They met and hit it off at one of the campsites along the way. Dot really liked Drew and wanted her to be truly happy, grabbing a much life as she can while she's still young.
I liked the ending and the fact that an epilogue was included. I guess my only warning (if you want to call it that) is about all the sex and sexual language. That could very well be a reason that not all readers will enjoy it. If you can handle it, then you will probably enjoy the story itself, a lot.
I received a ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
