Meet the Mitchell brothers of Fool's Gold, California—five gorgeous men who've left a trail of broken hearts in their wake… Maya Farlow learned the hard way to depend only on herself, so when she fell too deeply for the bad-boy charms of Del Mitchell, she did the only thing she could—she ran. Stunned, Del left Fool's Gold to make his name and fortune in extreme sports. Now ten years later, Maya's been hired to promote her hometown's new slogan, The Destination for Romance. The celebrity spokesman is none other than Del, the man she dumped but never forgot. Awkward!
Although Del's not the type to hold a grudge, he's determined to avoid falling a second time for the woman who broke his heart. He's a daredevil, not an idiot. Trouble is, in all his adventures, he never found a rush as exhilarating as Maya's kiss. Maybe risking his heart will prove to be the biggest thrill of all… AMAZON 3 Stars
I wanted to like it more, after all I'm back in one of my favorite towns again. I got to see some old favorites like Mayor Marsha and two of the zaniest town's "older" citizens, Gladys and Eddie. And those two lively women made for some smile worthy moments. They definitely believed in the motto of "Be Yourself". Now back to the main points of the story. Both of the main characters were good ones and I enjoyed some of the humor that went back and forth between them. It was amazing how many secrets Del's family had and all the while they looked like the perfect family from the outside. Their father was a dedicated, world famous glass works artist, who was such a selfish man, so totally focused on his ART that it blocked everything else out. Family took the backseat to his art and even making sure at times that the family had food on the table. As I was reading it I thought "wow, they took keeping secrets to the Pro level." But even they can't keep it all hidden forever and its going to come out and they (yes, there are several) will be doozies. Maya has a few secrets of her own, one of them being why she dumped Del in the first place. She's also keeping another one about someone close to Del's family but she can't tell it because she promised. You just have to know that one's going to hurt when it comes out in the worst setting, because that's usually how that happens. The friction between the brothers was well played and believable. I guess the only downsides for me was how long some of the regrets that Maya had were repeated. It almost felt like it stayed there a bit to long. Yes, I know logically that the foundation had to be made but still.... The other thing was some of the details about the filming didn't really keep my interest. I skimmed some of it but not enough to lose the basis of the story about why they were doing the projects and the people stories that went with it.
There is an excerpt for "Best of My Love" which is Aiden's story.
Also an excerpt of The Friends We Keep".
