BOOK REVIEW- YEAGER'S MISSION

After a number of earthquakes hammer the Sierra Madre region of Mexico, Grupo Verdugo, a splinter group of cartel enforcers, takes control of the drug shipping routes through that territory. Caught in the middle, a small orphanage high in the mountains, desperate for supplies to care for the children and the battered earthquake victims, reaches out to Abel Yeager for help.
Yeager and his friend Victor agree to deliver the needed food and medicine. But Grupo Verdugo seems to have a special interest in starving out the clergy and forcing them to bend to their will. They send a man known as the Executioner to stop anyone daring to assist the people.
Yeager and Victor are in for the biggest fight of their lives as they are forced to move forty children, a dozen sick and injured patients, and one feisty doctor out of the mission and through mountains infested with vicious killers.   AMAZON 4.5 Rating     I really liked it.

Action, Action, Action. Oh and yes there will be some violence. But didn't we guess that when we read the book information and it talked about battling drug cartels? But still the people in the book were outstanding and kept my full attention. Even if I hadn't read Book 1 (which I did) I think it would still be easy to read this one on its own. It was nice to re-connect with "old friends", like Victor, who is a hoot. Always smiling, always joking, always having his friends backs. You just know that there is more to him than most people see but in this story, we got to see more of the deeper Victor. But he was still the smart mouth, tough talking Victor in the midst of it, he didn't lose that part of himself. These men in the story are fighting men; fighting against some tough odds so the language at times will be a bit salty and rough. But it doesn't overpower the story.

We also get to meet new "friends" as well. Juan, is one of the little boys in the orphanage, who is so brave in his own way. A unique personality, who I just flat out enjoyed. There was also several other plots going on in the midst of the main story. Not unlike having several plates in the air all at the same time. But it was smooth and was woven together so well, it just flowed. Not confusing at all. That's quite an accomplishment and before I knew it, the story was ending. And ending with one more surprising twist, which leaves the door open for more adventures. One that when it happens, I would like to go on.

P.S. Charlie (Abel's fiancee) and her son, David are also in this story, although not the main focus as they were in Book 1. Still, a very interesting subplot, which comes to a satisfying end. One of my favorite things that Charlie said while Abel is away fighting bad guys is this: " He should be here. It's his job to kill bugs, change light bubs and shoot bad guys".
P.S. I just realized I haven't said anything about Abel, at all. And I really should because what a great character he is! He's loyal, brave, creative in his thinking and he never gives up! He's surrounded himself with great people not only because of those things but he is a man of integrity too.

His friend Cujo had an interesting perspective when it came to a battle scene he flew over. "Only Yeager could piss off that many people in so short a time. One look into the bell tower confirmed it."
I loved the snappy conversations and insights like this. That's why I'm sharing a few. Don't worry its not like the movie trailer where the best parts just got shared. There were plenty more to enjoy!

The author did a good job of drawing me into the story and at one point this happened.
I actually found myself almost saying out loud, "No Charlie, don't go in there, don't do it."
What am I talking about? You have to read it to find out.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
