Description
Gray “Quick Shot” Woodson is the fastest gun west of the
Mississippi. Unfortunately, he’s ready to hang up his hat. Sure, being
notorious has its perks. But the nomadic lifestyle—and people always
tryin’ to kill you—gets old real fast.
Now he just wants to find
a place to retire so he can spend his days the way the good Lord
intended. Staring at the sunset. And napping.
When his stubborn
horse drags him into a hole-in-the-wall town called Desolation,
something about the place calls to Gray, and he figures he might
actually have a shot at a sleepy retirement.
His optimism lasts about a minute and a half.
Soon
he finds himself embroiled in a town vendetta and married to a woman
named Mercy. Who, judging by her aggravating personality, doesn’t know
the meaning of her own name. In fact, she’s downright impossible.
But dang it if his wife isn’t irresistible. If only she’d stop trying to steal his guns to go after the bad guys herself.
There goes his peace and quiet...AMAZON LINK

This beautiful eBook cover got my attention. But wow, this story wasn't anything like I was expecting. And in the beginning I wasn't even sure that I was going to like it. But it grew on me. And some of it was because it also had humor in it.
Gray was a huge part of that unexpected. He sure spent a lot of time looking for a nap. Not unlike his equally unusual horse, Birdie. Birdie adds some smiles to the story too. Gray does a lot of uncouth things especially at first. He's also tired, grumpy and grunts a lot because he doesn't want to carry on ANY conversations. He doesn't want to be social or get to know anyone either. He was SO unlike a hero of the story I was expecting. Jason Sunshine has been dogging Gray's steps for a LONG time but Gray just can't seem to shake him. The guy is like his last name, Sunshine. He's pretty much liked by everyone except Gray of course. Gray is just irritated by him, sort of.
Mercy is so unexpected too and just as stubborn as Gray. She's also the opposite of Gray when it comes to talking, she never stops. She also has a lot of good qualities too though. The man trying to force her off her land one way or another keeps things stirred up just like you'd expect a bad guy to do. You just never knew how or when he was going to strike.
The community of Desolation was one interesting group too. They all had secrets so they were more accepting of people than most communities. I really liked the people and enjoyed their antics.
You know things are going to come to a dangerous confrontation towards the end. It made me wonder how things could turn out well for our M.C.'s and their friends. But it is a dramatic ending with a good Epilogue following.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
