If you play with fire…
One
of the most notorious cowboys in Cold River, Jensen Kittredge always
has willing women with sweet smiles vying for a place in his bed. So
when the prissy high school librarian sidles up to him in the most
disreputable bar in town with a scowl on her face, he has no idea what
to make of it. Much less the attraction he feels toward the bespectacled
creature who wants something from him… but not that.
Yet.
Someone gets burned…
Harriett
Barnett doesn’t care for dens of iniquity— or the insolent cowboy she
certainly shouldn’t find attractive. But one of her students needs her
help, and if she needs to corral the infamous Jensen to save him, she
will. Trouble is, the town’s favorite Kittredge brother is a lot more
than she bargained for. Harriett's happy little life is orderly and
neat, just how she likes it—until Jensen blows it all apart with his
particular brand of addictive passion. Can a modern-day schoolmarm
really tame the wildest cowboy in town? Or is Harriet headed for a
terrible fall? AMAZON LINK

This story has a slow start reminding me that the lazy pace was almost
as lazy as Jensen appeared to be. At times it felt like not a lot was
going on but I enjoyed the complex main characters more than enough to
keep going. While I liked this story, I can't say that I loved it.
The opening chapter shows Harriet as a really staid, kind of stuffy woman. She's also kind of odd for a woman her age. Although as I read about how she grew up, it was easier to se why she had a hard time fitting in. And as the story goes on I began to see that she really wasn't stuffy but just a woman who stubbornly marched to her own drummer. But then so did Jensen when it came to marching to his own drummer. It was totally different from Harriet but it also was his way of hiding and protecting himself and others. Harriet is passionate and intense and she doesn't try to hide it. At first I thought Jensen was her direct opposite. But was he? He definitely has the passionate part down pat. Even though he doesn't let too many people get very close. But Harriet just bulldozers her way in. He often likened her to a tiny tornado of determined focus. That led to some funny moments too.
Aiden Hall is a young man who plays a part in their story too.
The story was so good when it came to the descriptions of places, you could almost see them.
As you can imagine the story is also emotional, with some secrets that need to be faced and overcome. And they do leading to a good ending to the story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
