BOOK REVIEW- KARMA BY THE SEA

BOOK REVIEW- KARMA BY THE SEA- Hawaiian born Karma Aneko, high-end divorce attorney, is pulled from the ocean just before drowning. Officer Joe Porter is on his third transfer since an undercover drug bust nearly killed him. A hero even when off-duty, Joe fishes the woman from the angry waves, knowing he’s caught trouble as soon as she spews salt water all over him. She never planned on being so close to the sea again, but Joe challenges her to take another look at her tormented childhood from within the safe circle of his arms. She is strong enough to accept his past while seeing the man he’s become. Their undeniable attraction overcomes logic, daring them to believe in love at first touch. AMAZON

Karma was a unique character, raised by (really being neglected by) kooky parents, she was alone most of her life.  Except for Paolo, who she loved fiercely and lost to the sea that she HAD loved.  After that she rejected everything of her heritage, goddess worship, and trusting anyone enough to let herself love again.  She even rejected parts of her name and called herself K.
I liked how fierce she was at times, especially how Joe & K. first met.  She had a super-professional appearance and attitude but no matter how hard she tried to hide it she did care about people.    Joe, was the perfect balance to K., he had strengths that helped her. Therapy had helped him a lot because like he said, he used to have a bad attitude, a hot temper and fast fists, most of it a carryover from the undercover work.
I liked the part of the story about K's client, the reason she was even there.  It added to the story.  As did the enemies looking for Joe, from his past uncover bust that went bad.
I would say that I liked this story with some reservation.  Mainly, I'm not a fan of stories with other god's and goddesses in them.  On the plus side, it was done tastefully, didn't go into it too deeply and was a necessary part of the story.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

  1. Thank you for the very thoughtful review! Karma's character came to me pretty clearly right from the beginning and it was a challenge to make sure her feisty (survivor's) attitude didn't go too far. You're right, Joe was a good balance for her...
