Peppermint Patties

My Mom used to make these little candies for the holidays and it only took her a few minutes to whip up a batch to give as gifts. She would get a pretty red cookie tin and add some tissue paper and put these little creamy mints inside. Everyone loved them. Sometimes she would add food coloring to make them red and green or whatever color looked festive. Sometimes she would roll them in sugar or add little silver or red jimmies and other decorations. We loved them too!

Cream Cheese Mints

4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
exactly 1/2 teaspoon peppermint or spearmint extract
3 cups powdered sugar

Beat the cream cheese with a mixer until smooth, add the extract and some of the powdered sugar and mix until combined well. Then add the remaining sugar and mix until well combined.

Shape into 1/2" balls and place them on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Press flat with a fork and then chill until ready to serve. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to two weeks or freeze for up to two months.    WELCOME HOME/FACEBOOK

OTHER IDEAS FROM COMMENTS ON FACEBOOK POST-

  • Instead of doing the fork imprint make them like thumbprint cookies and put some melted chocolate in the center before refrigerating and they taste exactly like peppermint patties!
  • Dip them in melted chocolate - pop in the fridge to set= York peppermint patty!

  • Thanks for sharing your recipe. I have been making something similar. I use 1 package of cream cheese, 9 cups of powdered sugar and 1/4 - 1/2 tsp of mint extract. Mix together, roll out like a dough (about 1/4" thick and cut with quarter size biscuit cutter. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and place these all over the sheet. I do this in layers, freeze them overnight. Dip them in nice chocolate. These should be kept in the fridge. I usually freeze these and have delicious peppermint patties all year! They make a great gift as well. Makes a very large batch!

  • I made them in raspberry flavor and dipped them in dark chocolate.

BOOK REVIEW- THE MERRY MARQUIS

Book 2 in the Series of "Merry Men Quartet"
Two people make their awkward way through Society, the "ton".  Richard, the Marquis of Merrick is still grief stricken after the death of his wife and shy Teresa Seton, who is new to society, is uncomfortable with attention . The only time Teresa really seems to shine is when she is playing the pianoforte, something that Richard overhears and draws peace from.   When Teresa is compromised by a kiss with Richard, they must marry and are now thrust into the very society neither really wants.
I found this story was okay, but really had a hard time with Teresa's mother.  Really didn't like her a whole lot.  She constantly sabotaged her daughter and in although Teresa knows this, she confides something personal to her mother, that could be used to hurt her.  Right after her mother tried to seduce Richard. Sorry, that I had a hard time believing.  The rest of the story is about the two people who are really strangers, trying to form a life.  They begin to become friends but they are soon fighting the attraction to make their marriage real. Richard is also busy fighting the guilt because he is drawn to Teresa and feels this is disloyal to the memory of his dead wife and even feels guilty if he has fun.

P-STUFFED EMOTIONS

THANKSGIVING & STUFFING
(Warfare Secrets)

After Joseph was betrayed he told his malicious brothers:

"What you meant for harm God turned for good."

The Bible says "in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ

Jesus concerning you." In everything is not FOR everything.

"In" implies that the thing that happened may have had nothing to do with God.

Still, God has power "to cause all things to work together for your good."

By choosing to be thankful in spite of the situation you enthrone God OVER the

situation and He works to make the outcome even more glorious for you.

Thus "no weapon formed against you shall prosper."

It does not always mean no weapon can reach you, but

rather that God will so work in the situation that the weapon is reversed

against the enemy and YOU PROSPER.

Thus the weapon of persecution and jail was reversed in Pauls case

(and Joseph's) so that in both cases the ever praising servant of God

took over the prison and afterward got released!

(Think about Paul and Silas singing in the Philipian jail.)

The opposite of praising is "stuffing."

This is the art of shoving the pain and hurt into a deep pocket that never gets

sanitized by thanksgiving and begins to leak like a corrosive emotional battery.

Much physical infirmity and sickness comes this way.

But you can beat the infirmity entirely by forgiving quickly and putting yourself

under an umbrella of divine intervention by being thankful "in" the situation

even when you don't feel happy "for" the situation.

If God be for you, everything the enemy throws at you will be converted to strength

and advancement in the purpose of God for your life!

Enjoy the holiday stuffing and avoid the emotional stuffing.

Be thankful that you have power to position all of life under the mighty hand of God

tho promises to work it all together for your good.

A good that is greater than the good you would have had had the enemy not

attacked.

At times you conquer and the enemy can't get near you, but when he does get near

and you do exchange blows you become "more than a conquerer" by both defeating

the attack and converting his blows into more territory conquered.

Every adversity carries with it the seed of an equal or greater enlargement of territory

to those who refuse to stuff and decide to sing!

Can you see this principle in the characters in the Bible?

Or in your own life?

BOOK REVIEW- NEVER HAD A DREAM COME TRUE

Lady Penelope de Vere has been around Rake (Richard) and loved him since childhood.  He's never really seen her other than just the best friend of his beloved niece Fanny.  Even as an adult woman he never really saw her, until she took a nearly nude swim in a pond and then suddenly he did.  He's known to be a libertine, a womanizer.  About the time Penelope is ready to give up her dreams and move on from Rake he begins to chase her.  He's thinking she could be a woman he could love and she thinks she'd just be another conquest.

I liked this story, because there were a lot of challenges that Penny had to overcome. Rafe was only one of those.  He also had some of those as well but Penny really was unwanted by some and wanted for the wrong reasons by others.   I also wanted to yell at both MC's " (more than once)  "Hello...Communication!"  It was really clear that they weren't really listening to each other or some of this would have been sorted out so much earlier.  Both Penny and Rake kind of came to the same conclusion themselves in the storyline.   It did make me want to shake them.  Hard. And often.  But I guess, if you look at it like Rafe had never been in love and Penny went through so much heartache by other causes as well as unrequited love; they just weren't making good choices.
One of my favorite thoughts that Penny had about Rake was that he was a snake. A snake that mesmerized their victims. just before they ate them.   Interesting way to put it.

"All in the Family! (Marriage)" Richard Crisco

BOOK REVIEW- FALLING FOR THE PIRATE

A spicy novel with two desperate people.   Captain Nate Bowen is desperate for revenge and Juliana Hargate is desperate to clear her father's name, regain their fortunes and survive while doing it.   Too bad circumstances cause her to lose her memory and land her with the man who hates her father and everything his name stands for.  Hargate.  His vengence is relentless, can anyone escape unscathed?

I liked the people in the book, and thought the plot was good too.  Even some of the secondary characters were interesting, even though some of their story weren't gotten into to deep.  Let's face it though,  Nate and Juliana were the main deal.  One thing that struck me as a bit odd though was when Nate didn't know who she really was (at first) and then he saw her initials J.H.  Why did he automatically think the last initial stood for Hargate?  Did I miss something?  Her last initial could have stood for a lot of different last names.  Was it just assumption on his part?  Making the facts fit because Hargate did have a daughter?  I'm trying not to give too much away about the story but it was something that I did think about.

Quantum Principles & the Spiritual Dimension

Quantum Principles & the Spiritual Dimension

BOOK REVIEW: LOOK AND LIVE

Glory.  One single word, that carries so much.  So many meanings for it, so much misunderstanding about it.  The author explained it himself, he said the call is this: "Make your life one unflinching gaze upon the glory of Christ. Do this and you will live.  Don't do this and you will die."  You won't have victory over sin, you won't make it through your struggle. You will spend all  your time on counterfeit beauty and waste your life."

I liked this book, the author did a good job.  There is some meat that you can sink your teeth into.  But its also presented in a way that was easy to understand and digest.  I like his writing style and his examples through some of his own personal life.  I didn't find this a dry read at all.  I found myself taking a fair amount of notes, things I wanted to go back and savor.  Also a big plus to me was the fact that he continually made sure he was pointing you back to Jesus.  And he wasn't shy about including scripture to the study.

  • I liked the definition of idolatry that Augustine gave: "disordered love".   I'll leave you with a few other notes of what got my attention.

  • We worship what we enjoy and respect the most.
  • The glory begins with worship
  • We worship our way into sin and we have to worship our way out
  • The gospel by its nature is offensive.
  • Behold Him
There were also sections on suffering; like, finding your treasure in suffering and suffering produces in us a glory.  I felt these were very helpful because we don't like to look at that part of our walk with Christ.  Its there just the same, but so is our way through if we won't stay in denial about it.
This book is going into my Keeper Library, because reading it once just isn't enough.

MAJESTY CAN BE THE NORM

"A person who wants majesty has to come to a place where faith and confidence are the norm and you can’t be shaken out of that. In the face of fear and unbelief, a person experiencing majesty will always step into their own inheritance with the Lord. At the end of the day, it’s not just you getting your needs met – that’s the baby end of life in the Spirit. The mature end is God wanting to give you your inheritance!"  GRAHAM COOKE/FACEBOOK

WARRIORS FOCUS-THE JOURNEY

"Warriors focus on the journey, not the destination. Most people just want a situation to be over so they can get to the place that they are reaching for. But the journey actually is the place where we meet God, and we walk with God, and we learn about God. It's on the road with God that we receive revelation, wisdom, and we get an upgraded sense of His presence."

BOOK REVIEW- A FAMILY AFFAIR

Fanny loved her Uncle Rake's best friend, Devlin desperately, even if she is only five years old.  She knew even then she would be the perfect wife for him and told him so.  He disappears from her life and re-appears at her first ball.  Society acknowledges her as Lady Francesca Darling and he as  Devlin Ross, the Duke of Hereford.  It may sound prim and proper but the attraction that is brewing is anything but.  Because of his father's cold, abusive treatment, Devlin fears marriage and having children and has some odd ideas about it.  Fanny is a romantic young woman with a fighting spirit and she wants a true love and marriage.  Now toss in Fanny's extremely close, loving, overprotective family and standback, drama to follow....

This story made me smile more than once, what a cast of characters.  Fanny herself was funny, loyal and bubbling up with personality, drawing others into her net. This woman seemed to be related to just about everybody.  She finds herself surrounded by so many who love her unconditionally while Devlin grew up feeling unloved and unwanted.  That is quite a big difference to overcome. Fanny's family included so many really attractive men in it, those who love her deeply and will do anything protect her from any womanizers like them and they make the courtship quite entertaining.  But don't count Fanny out, although she is sweet and loving, she has also grown up among all that testoserone, and seen how men roll, so she is also clever and can be ingenuous when crossed.  Uh-oh!  * I'm smiling, here*

I would also like to hear more about Fanny's friend, Penelope.  Is there a story about Rake and possibly Penelope?  I just checked it out...yes, and it's called, " Never Had A Dream Come True".   My smile just got bigger, I've got that book (free from the author for an honest review)!!  I think I know what book I'm reading next.

Your Real Worst Spiritual Enemy Is Closer Than You Think - Jennifer LeClaire Ministries

Your Real Worst Spiritual Enemy Is Closer Than You Think - Jennifer LeClaire Ministries

When Emotions Are Our God..........

BOOK REVIEW- KILLING SECRETS

Deadly secrets and danger surround Rachel James and her daughter Amanda.  Running from her ex-husband, Rachel is always looking over her shoulder, never staying anywhere too long.   Her ex is in prison but that doesn't mean they are safe.
Patrick Thorne is a neighbor, a son of the people currently helping her hide.  He is a construction company owner, being hounded by someone trying to destroy his business.  He is wounded by secrets of his own and neither Rachel or Patrick are eager to be involved with anyone any time soon.  It just makes it so tough for them because, what are they going to do about that attraction to each other?  It's just one more thing to run away from.
I found that I liked this book, even though some of it had some dark parts to it.  A serial killer is a portion of the story and I'm sure not everyone is going to enjoy that.  But I believe it was well written, and that wasn't the only evil going on.  It seemed that the author was juggling several plates in the air at the same time and was doing a really good job of it.  There was a really good supporting cast of characters that were really enjoyable as well; lots of drama.  The Thorne family was one that you knew you were going to want to read more about.  In this story Patrick's brother, police Detective Jack was involved in a lot of the plot, while his mother, father and other brothers also showed up to help.  Before anyone gets the wrong idea that its all about the family and a "sweet" romance (and murder); while it may have its moments of sweet, it also has several sex scenes also. I know some people want to know that when choosing a book.

BOOK REVIEW: RUDE AWAKENING

Jack's life used to be normal but it hasn't been that way for years.  He's been hiding from his friends, for three years.  Lin is one of those friends and she still has a "thing" for Jack; something Jack didn't know before.   He remembers exactly when everything changed.  Forget about that old saying about monsters being under the bed.  They are everywhere and have settled in quite nicely, at least for them.

I have to admit, as I was reading the very first chapters it was really kind of hard to try to figure out what was going on.  Not during Lin's story but definitely Jack's, its just so otherwordly.  I have to say I thought, "Huh?" more than once.  One of the characters had made the comment that it was like they had fallen into the rabbit hole like Alice in Wonderland.  I had thought that several chapters back so it was really fun to have it recognized right in the book.   I was really pulling for the MC's, Jack and Lin and it began to show more and more Lin had a lot more to offer when it came to Jack's strange life, than either previously thought.  The author had to build a whole other world in this story, make that worlds.  And also all different kinds of territories, creatures and ranks as well.  For me it was a Mixed Bag of feelings about the book. I  seemed to swing back and forth-liked it, I didn't like it, I didn't get it and then I did get it.  It was quite the ride. I never wavered on liking the people and in the end, it began to make more sense to me.  If you think you're going to figure it all out in the first few chapters, good luck with that. (Of course maybe I'm not quite as good as figuring this stuff out as I think I am.)

Time to remember this is Book 1 of the adventure so while there was some closure on some things, it left room for more adventures to follow in another book.  So I guess in my opinion, it can  be read all on its own with no problem.

I like the eBook cover; I don't always comment on them but I did like this one.

daughter of the King
i considered myself an outcast,
a black sheep,
misunderstood
i lived my life by my own rules
and i've been alone
even in love
afraid, confused, even hopeless
full of dreams
but frozen and aimless
ashamed
but now i've called on Your name
and by the mysterious mercy
of Your Love
i've found that life isn't lived
until it's for You
and through faith
i'm born again,
no longer an outcast,
but a daughter of

BOOK REVIEW- DRACULAVILLE 1

Talia is one Type A "Plus" personality when it comes to her work.  She pours everything into it to make her way to the top of her field.  Her nickname is "Tiger" and she's earned it.  Even as tough as she is she has two friends who think the world of her, they understand her.  One is her assistant,  Felix and Gerri, a non-work friend.  She ends up saving Drake, a new vampire and comes up with an idea to use his help for a new ad campaign for Romania.  Draculaville, a theme park like no other.  What could possibly go wrong?

I liked the toughness of Talia that hides the tender heart underneath.  And Drake is as sweet as he is alluring. The attraction between Talia and Drake is quite the mixture of sweetness, strength AND resistance; mainly on her part. There is a lot of fun with what are vampire truths and what are myths.  The author came up with an interesting way for us to find out that garlic is not harmful to vampires, at least in this story.  I loved Talia's friends, too bad I can't borrow them.  This story was full of twists and turns and I could hardly guess what was going to happen next.  Talia had such a strength no matter what jam she found herself in.  Made me root for her and want her to get her HEA, all the same time wondering what that would look like.  I still don't know because this is Book #1 and the story continues on to the next book.  Now normally I like all my story in one book, but I knew this was Book One in a series.  But because I liked the characters so much I'm kind of leaning towards getting the next one.

Al Thomas: 'Satan Is Attacking Many With Depression – That's About To End'

Al Thomas: 'Satan Is Attacking Many With Depression – That's About To End'

Steve Shultz From the desk of Steve Shultz:

This is a very sensitive subject that I think the Body of Christ struggles with at times... and that is depression. Some struggle with it personally and never tell others about it because they don't want anyone to know...
I appreciate Al Thomas writing up an article on this very subject AND how God delivered him from it. Al Thomas shares here:
David said "Why art thou cast down, O my soul?" (Psalm 43:5). Don't be ashamed if you're depressed, but recognize that Jesus said we don't have to live with it (see John 16:33). Joy is your inheritance, not depression. Jesus said: "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full" (John 15:11). Depression robs you of energy and makes you think God is not pleased with you.
This is a much needed word for the Body of Christ and I'm thankful that Al Thomas took the time to write about this very sensitive subject.
If you know of others struggling with Depression, please forward this very encouraging word to them.
I pray God's PEACE and JOY over you this day!
Blessings,
Steve

Many Years Ago God Delivered Me From Depression and Worry
As a young man, I was living in California, and after a hard day at work and just returning from an evening Bible college class, I was greatly depressed. I wanted someone to talk to and share my heavy heart, but I met an empty house. At that time, a lot of pressures were weighing me down. My family life was in turmoil, my job frustrating, and all the while my stress level was increasing to an explosive point. My mind was confused and bewildered. All alone, I felt an urge to pray.
I went to my bedroom, fell to my knees, and cried out to God in desperation. After briefly praying, I was so emotionally exhausted I crawled up on the bed and fell fast asleep. After twenty minutes or so, I was awakened by a majestic voice that said,"ISAIAH 26:3." The voice was full of authority and love.
I grabbed my Bible and read the verse, "[I] wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on [Me]." As soon as I finished reading, an amazing thing happened: I felt as if hot oil was being poured on my head, going right through me. It seemed as if His peace claimed me and took up residence.(Photo via Flickr)
Proverbs 12:25 says, "Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad." I had received a good word. Since then I have faced many trials and a few life-altering catastrophes. Pressures and problems still come, but I can honestly say I have rarely worried about anything since that time or experienced depression. I do not put my head in the sand when troubles come; I simply have a divine perspective about them and a great peace within. This was a manifestation of Jesus' promise of peace and it has abided.
Depression Is One of the Most Lethal Weapons the Enemy Uses
The world is in a perilous state. Fear of war, another terrorist attack, or any number of uncertainties abound. Many are facing health problems and financial woes. Others are facing despair because of family members who are not walking with Jesus or are simply in disunity. As long as we are on this earth, there will always be some kind of trouble facing us. Job 5:7 says, "Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward." No one (as long as they are breathing) is exempt.
Before despair wedges its way into your life, you must learn how to deal with it and overcome it. Yes, I said overcome it.
David said "Why art thou cast down, O my soul?" (Psalm 43:5). Don't be ashamed if you're depressed, but recognize that Jesus said we don't have to live with it (see John 16:33). Joy is your inheritance, not depression.Jesus said: "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full" (John 15:11). Depression robs you of energy and makes you think God is not pleased with you.
Stop Looking In the Rearview Mirror
This is often the root cause of depression. But it is the last place you should go – the past. There is nothing there but despair. Before all the "wringing of hands," the "sweating of the brow," and the "woe is me," talk to yourself and others and go to the Source: God Himself. You may say: "Come on, that's too simple; I've cried out time and time again, etc." Some say, "I did, He didn't say anything."
Here is the key: Then put your anchor down and start waiting.Read Hebrews 6:15-19. Also, remember what David said: "The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed" (Psalm 9:9). Psalm 25:5 says "Lead me in Thy truth and teach me; for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day." (Photo via Freeimages)
People want an instant solution. Instead, God wants us to trust and be patient. Some don't like to hear that, but that is where maturity is manifested. The Hebrew word for "wait" means to "expect." He is waiting for you to wait on Him. "For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock" (Psalm 27:5).
God is calling: "When thou saidst, 'Seek ye My face'; my heart said unto Thee, 'Thy face, Lord, will I seek'" (Psalm 27:8).
God has been described in many ways. One of my favorites is, "God is a huge guy with a big coat that has millions of pockets. Some are small and others larger," and if you get close enough, He will reach in one of those pockets and "give you something." God is an amazing Giver. God gave the Son. The Son gave the Spirit. The Spirit gives gifts. The Father is a contagious giver. Get close to Him. He has something for you, and it is always good. Be waiting, be expectant... joy is coming in place of depression.

See God's View – No Room For Depression
Have you ever felt like you were wasting your time and bearing no fruit? Sometimes depression is a lack of proper focus. God is never depressed. Keith Green sang, "The view from here (earth) is nothing near to what it is for You."
The way God sees you and the way you see yourself must come into alignment. Why? Because how God views problems is different from how we do. (Photo via Pixabay)
Elijah thought he was the only prophet in the land. "...I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away" (1 Kings 19:10). Elijah was telling God false information – and not only once, but twice (see verse 14)! Elijah's problem? He didn't have all the facts.
Tip: Elijah wasn't alone (see verse 18). Neither are you. The enemy wants you to feel trapped and come up with a worldly solution to your problem rather than waiting for God. Remember King Saul? He didn't wait for the prophet (Samuel) to arrive for the sacrifice; instead he goes ahead (see 1 Samuel 13:9). He felt pressured, got nervous and... the devil fooled him. That foolishness cost him a kingdom (see verses 9-14).
Ask God to open your eyes. You're not surrounded, your enemies are (see 2 Kings 6:16-17). It's how you view things. Get God's perspective, He's got 20/20 spiritual vision (past, present, and future). He sees all, knows all, and never panics. When we have His perspective, joy rules our hearts. Peter said we would "be glad... with exceeding joy" (1 Peter 4:13). That word "exceeding" means "super abundant."
See God's Solution – Not Your Own
Too often we want to "figure things out" instead of waiting on God. David (Saul's replacement) wrote, "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD" (Psalm 27:14). God is not ignoring the seriousness of your dilemma, nor about to give you the usual shallow "Christianese" buzz words, expecting you to suddenly start jumping for joy. Yet, at the same time, God's answers are usually quite simple.
The greatest discoveries are those that reduce complex things into very simple things. Often, we start to imagine in our own minds how God is going to help us. Don't do this. You see, God is always going somewhere. Don't start going somewhere until you know for sure that is the direction God is going. Blessed is the man who finds out which way God is moving and then gets going in the same direction.
Sometimes Biblical trust has nothing to do with logic or circumstances. God's peace can come even though understanding escapes us (see Philippians 4:7). We are looking through a glass darkly (see 1 Corinthians 13:12). So don't let anyone rob you of God's "on-the-way" blessing. Firmly resist satan (see James 4:7), then listen for the sound (see Psalm 89:15).
Heaven is making a sound. Faith hears that sound. The train is coming around the corner, the whistle is blowing. I hear shaking and I see chains falling off of many (see Acts 16:26). If I were you, I'd start rejoicing by faith (see Philippians 4:4). You see, that Engineer is wearing a huge coat... and if you pay attention, you'll see all kinds of blessings fall out of His pockets and depression suddenly disappear. (Photo via Pixabay)
