BOOK REVIEW: When Mockingbirds Sing

Leah is a shy, usual 9 year old child, with a fierce stutter.  She has moved to a new town ( Mattingly) with her parents who each have problems of their own .  Its to be a new beginning for them all; they have no idea how much of a new beginning it is.   Suddenly Leah begins painting art far beyond her ability to this point; in fact beyond even most adults.  Vibrant, stirring and sometimes disturbing, brilliant pictures; all the while talking to the Rainbow Man, who is her only friend.  All of this sets the town on its ear; everyone is disturbed by all of it. One thing they do agree with is that there is no Rainbow Man and try to make her see reason.  But a big storm is coming;  but they need Leah for what she "sees" and " knows" a lot  more than they realize.....yet.

Whew, I just finished reading this book; minutes ago.  When I picked this book as the next one to read; I had no idea what I was getting into.  What a story!  Yes, the quick blurb on the information about the book, was what caught my attention.  But I can also say, I'm an avid reader and I don't think I've ever read anything quite like it before.  To tell the truth, I laid the book down several times at the beginning, thinking," oh I don't know if I'm going to make it all the way through this book or not?"  It was slow moving at the start but I kept going because, part of my getting the book was my promise to read the whole book before reviewing it. (see below) So glad I kept going; it was sad, funny, thought provoking, unusual and well worth the read.  The people, the story was so good; I marvel at the author's inspiration and imagination.
I give it 5***** Stars for pure genius and  enjoyment.
