Unique is how I would describe both Aubrey and Nicholas.  And the story, I would call intense.

I got a kick out of some of Aubrey's coping phrases, they were hilarious.  Cartoons and her silly made up phrases were her way of coping with her daily violent cases.

Nicholas was superb at his job but he was also closed off personally because of a tragic betrayal. When I say he's closed off, it's really WAY beyond anything that I have read before.  Well done.

That villain was wow..so over the top evil and way stronger physically than any of them expected. He was someone who wanted to best Aubry and show how superior he was. It was amazing to see how no matter the danger, she managed to outsmart the villain time and again.  Oh, she paid a price each time in pain and physical damage but she was too smart for him.

There is an intense ending with hope for the future. Because the main characters finally admit there is love between them. I would have liked to see a bit more of a romance between them but it was still good. There is more challenges for them to work through but they will be facing them together.

I read this book through the HOOPLA Library App
