bestselling author Lynsay Sands, an immortal and her mortal pilot are
on the run from hungry vampires...and discover they’re life mates along
the way.
Jet Lassiter likes being a pilot for
Argeneau Inc. Perks included travelling to exotic locations and meeting
interesting people, even if they are the blood-sucking kind. He’s living
the good life, until his plane goes down in the mountains and four of
his passengers are gravely injured. They need blood to heal... and Jet
is the only source.
Quinn Peters never wanted to be immortal. Once a renowned heart surgeon, she was turned against her will and now she has to drink blood to survive. Before she can ask how her “life” can get any worse, she’s in a plane crash. One of the few survivors, Quinn is desperate to get the mortal pilot to safety before her fellow immortals succumb to their blood lust and drain Jet dry.
But hungry vampires are the least of their worries—the crash wasn’t an accident, and someone is trying to kill Quinn. Will she and Jet find their happily ever after as life mates, or will her assassin find her first? AMAZON LINK

Fasten your seat belts for a rough ride beginning from the first chapter. And for a pretty clueless Quinn and she remains that way for quite a while. Mainly by choice because she has withdrawn herself from life in so many ways. She is also angry, frustrated and resentful for being turned into a vampire against her will. She never had a choice about that at all. She deliberately refuses to learn anything about her new lifestyle as a vampire. Not a good idea at all !! But unknown to her there is way more to that part of the story which really keeps things interesting.
Now add in Jet..there's a guy who it's hard not to like. Highly skilled pilot, highly skilled listener and all around good guy. But yes, he's also mortal like it was mentioned. That made for a slightly different, challenging story and I enjoyed the difference. He's totally different from Quinn's late husband Patrick. Who was a highly skilled doctor who was not that involved with his son that he wanted. Their marriage started out well but began a downhill slide before "the incident" that changed their lives.
The struggle that Quinn was going through was understandable but even more so when more details of her life are uncovered. Plenty of emotions and trying to figure out the who and why of the dangers around Quinn. Prepare yourself for some major reveals and big surprises.
Oh, I can't forget to mention the humor in the story. Several which involve Quinn and the regional leader of the vampires, Lucien.
A really good ending wraps things up with the couple about to be wrapped up in each others arms again.
