BOOK REVIEW- GUARDED STAR

BOOK REVIEW- GUARDED STAR-Singer/songwriter Evie Marcherand is about to begin her first three-city tour when someone threatens to stop her music—permanently. Private investigator Jake Wells is about to give up his vacation—and his heart—to see that doesn’t happen.
MAKE A WISH
Everyone leaves twenty-five-year-old Evie Marcherand, but with her naturally husky voice and musical talent she’s done okay, and her star is rising. Her songs and her guitar? Those she can count on. She’s just booked her first three-city tour. Too bad someone else wants to stop her music. Permanently.
Jake Wells. 39. Private investigator. Tall and lanky, with brown hair that’s going silver at his temples. What does he want? To go on vacation. But with four younger sisters, “protective” doesn’t begin to describe him, so a promise to a dead man means he’ll play bodyguard instead. Threats of violence against an up-and-coming singer/songwriter have been escalating, and there’s just no way that’s going to happen. But after he gets a taste of Evie Marcherand’s music—and lips—there’s no saying what will.  AMAZON
Jake is older than Evie, like 14 years older but as the story goes on, I tended to forget it.   Maybe because of all of Evie's life expriences it was like she had what some call, an old soul.
Jake is not only older but he has a protector vibe going on with him, has four sisters that over his life he has protected.  So of course its not a surprise that he became a P.I. and got hired to be Evie's bodyguard.   Evie's mentor Mike, hired him prior to his death and trusted Jake to do a good job.  There might have even been a bit of matchmaking on Mike's part too; there is a hint or two that it might be true.  I liked both of the main characters in this story and there were several other interesting seondary people as well.
There is sexual activity as the story goes on; Evie was attracted right away and wanted to move on it.   Jake felt it too but held back time and again until he finally couldn't resist any longer. Jake has been married before but it ended badly into an ugly divorce.  They each seperately care for each other but are looking at their time together as only going to be for a short time; the time of her tour.  That is until they both begin to think of more and that scares them both.  Evie has a stalker who doesn't want her to sing or even write song anymore; someone who is really afraid and jealous of her talent and has some dark plans for her.  There's a score to even in the stalker's mind.  There is a twist or two towards the end, and the story ended very nicely with a HEA.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
