BOOK REVIEW- DECEPTION OF A HIGHLANDER

BOOK- DECEPTION OF A HIGHLANDER-Scottish Romance doesn't get much steamier—or more dangerous—than a spy hunting her quarry, then losing her heart to him instead.
To pay a seemingly impossible debt, Mariel Brandon has become a spy for Aaron, one of England's deadliest minds. Aaron's latest mission for the sharp-witted and daring Mariel is to find two people in a heavily fortified castle on the Isle of Skye, a castle headed by the clan MacDonald and the powerful Kieran. Mariel is to seduce Kieran and get him to take her to Skye. If she succeeds, Aaron promises to let Mariel's young brother go, and to free both of them from their debt. If she fails, her brother will die.
What she doesn't count on is craving Kieran MacDonald almost immediately upon meeting him. Now Mariel must keep a secret from Kieran—one that could get them both killed—as she tries to form a plan that will save her brother, get her out from under Aaron's thumb once and for all, and keep her in Kieran's strong arms forever.  AMAZON LINK

This story ended up being even more involved than I originally thought.
Mariel had to flirt and try to seduce Kieran when she met him; and at first he was cold, suspicious and resistant to her.  She just HAD to get him to take her to Skye in order to set her plans in action so she can complete her mission.  It was one she wasn't that excited about because it was more deception.  She really didn't have a choice though, her brother Jack's life hangs in the balance.   And she only has so long to get things done.
She's attracted to him almost from the start but she's got information to get and she plans on doing it without killing him. Mariel is very skilled at getting information from men; after all evil Aaron has trained her well.  She also has been trained in warfare skills and the skills needed to kill a man.  Mariel was beautiful and skilled but she also has had an incredibly hard life to this point. There is just so much she wishes she could forget.  Kieran might be attracted to Mariel but he is also wary and not easy fooled.  It makes for quite the cat and mouse dance.
There is also a lot of foreplay and sexual scenes as the story goes on; a bit more than I would have liked.  But both Mariel, Kieran were interesting people in the story; each with scars and individual struggles and heartbreak.    There were quite a few other interesting characters as well; Colin being one.  There weren't so many that you got lost in the number though.
Very satisfying ending; a nice wrap up of events.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
