BOOK REVIEW- DOUBLE CROSS

BOOK REVIEW - DOUBLE CROSS-
FBI Agent Laurel Evertson’s investigation into a scam targeting the elderly takes an unexpected twist when key evidence leads her to Morton Wilmington, a felon she arrested five years ago on her first undercover assignment. That case has haunted her since, and though she’s vowed to forget Wilmington—and what she sacrificed to put him away—he is now her best lead.
Houston Police Officer Daniel Hilton fears his grandparents may be the scammer’s next targets, and he’ll do anything to protect his family—even force inter-agency cooperation. But he’s quickly drawn to Laurel’s empathy and zeal and agrees to follow her lead . . . even if it means teaming up with a felon.
As the unlikely trio uncovers evidence suggesting the scam is more extensive and deadly than they imagined, both Laurel and Daniel find themselves in the cross hairs of a killer. Together they must decide if they can trust Wilmington’s claims of redemption, or if he’s leading them straight into a double cross.  Amazon Link

"Wow,"  I just finished reading this book and all I keep thinking is, "WoW".  I think this book is one of the best that I have read in a while. This is such a good book, with twists and turns like crazy.   Not in a way that makes the story disjointed either.  Daniel and Laurel were both written so well, with all their blemishes  and flaws upfront and believable. I ended up liking both of them. They both were drawn to each other and both fought it in the beginning. They had to put romance on the back burner until the end of the case.  But you could still feel the caring between them.
Daniel's respect, gentleness and concern for his grandparents was so sweet.  And his grandparents?  Now there were two people I would like to meet.  Abby was one woman with a lot of variety when it came to some of her skills.  Two of them being shooting and loving. This woman was packing heat and  knew how to use it.  Daniel's grandfather, Earl was so likable and his true personality shone through on his "clearer days".  You could feel some of the heartache of his disease as it progressed too.
Did I figure out who was the real bad guy ahead of time?  Wish I could say I did.  The author played me  like a violin.  Later on in the story, I was pulling for Wilmington to be on the up and up.  But switched back and forth in whether he was for real or not.  Did he still want to punish Laurel or had he really changed?   You will have to read the book to find out  I just don't want to spoil it for readers that are to come.
For those who want to know, yes, Jesus will be mentioned.  Yes, there will be times where people are sharing some of their faith in action.  Yes, there are times of people offering others, Jesus as the way to change their lives for good.   Did I feel that it took over the book?  No. Its another one of those stories that was so well written, that it just flowed with action  and mysteries.    I personally loved it!  And that as a reviewer is all I can offer.  How it was for me.

I received this Book FREE from Tyndale House Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
