Book Review: Twelve Unlikely HEROES

A Study of 12 True Heroes found in the Bible.  As the author states, in this present world it doesn't take much to be called a "hero".  As he observes; qualifications are kind of low in our culture, at the moment.  But most people KNOW when they encounter a real hero; not just someone who is famous for making a movie or playing a sport.  This study includes more information on the history  of the people in the Bible, the culture that lived in; times they failed but still were used as heroes anyway and even dangers they faced that we may not have realized before. People included in this study are:

  • Enoch
  • Joseph
  • Miriam
  • Gideon and Samson
  • Jonathan
  • Jonah
  • Esther
  • John the Baptist
  • James The brother of our Lord
  • Mark and Onesimus

I liked the book because it did give more information of  what it was really like to live in the "Bible Times" both as a man and as a woman.  There was a lot of fill in information not normally seen in books of this kind.  When I said it was a Study, that is exactly what it was.  It was also for me was at times, almost too much information; and it became a bit dry for my taste.  Some of my favorite parts were in the introduction when he talked about the marks of a True Hero, the explanation of Israel demanding a King, thus changing from being a "theocracy to a "monarchy".  Chapter 5 which focused on Jonathan  I gleaned so much new insight; which means I really liked and enjoyed that part a lot!!

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255
