BOOK REVIEW- Swan Song Khalid, the Scholar (Sons of the Desert Book 1) by Allie McCormack

Book Cover

Sarah Pendleton was born into a life of wealth and privilege, raised in the shadow of her famous soprano mother and her father, an equally famous composer. Shy and retiring, Sarah has left behind the world she grew up in to make her own life in the coastal town of Santa Barbara, California.

A visiting University professor of Arabic literature from the small oil-rich country of Taqara, Khalid Al Mansour is the eldest son of a Taqaran diplomat and an independent American artist. He's never settled down in one place, but that's because he's never found what he wanted... until one evening he sees the lovely bellydancer at a small, smoky cafe downtown.  AMAZON LINK

I liked this story because it was different than a lot of the "Sheikh" stories. It was also colorful and descriptive of not only the culture that Khalid came from but also the foods, places and even the clothes that Sarah wore.
It was also refreshing that Khalid came from two worlds; that I wasn't expecting. The challenge of Khalid getting to know Sarah added to the story.  She led him on quite the merry chase at first. A lot of it had to do with her thinking that he was interested in her as the exotic  belly dancer only She couldn't see him being interested in  her as boring old Sarah.   This is something that is a reoccurring theme throughout most of the book.    And after about 50% of the book I was ready for that attention to that morose feeling to end. She was so multi-talented but just couldn't see it.  Although what a childhood she had been put through.
However, there is a big twist or two coming up that is totally unexpected but kept me liking the book.  Well, in-between the tender but frequent sex scenes.

I received a copy of this book through BookFunnel and was not required to leave a review.  All thoughts and words are my own.
