Description
A woman unjustly imprisoned . . .A duke jilted at the altar . . .
Lady Samantha Wallace has been in love since childhood with her brother’s best friend, the Duke of Colebourne, but George only sees her as a little sister. She weds a viscount who is George’s opposite, only to find herself trapped in a miserable marriage. When she becomes a widow, she is held against her will and finally escapes, vowing to live life her own way and never be controlled again.
George is jilted at the altar and becomes one of London’s most scandalous rakes, bedding women left and right. After years of being the Duke of Charm, though, George is tired of his meaningless existence and decides he is ready for a change—which includes finding Sam, who is now a widow, and asking her to be his duchess.
Fate brings George and Samantha together at a house party, where their desire for one another ignites in a torrid encounter. Yet Samantha refuses to wed George. Determined to learn Sam’s secrets and make her his, George will do whatever it takes to fight for the woman he’s always loved in secret.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. Both of the main characters were interesting and had "stuff" to overcome.
When I read what happened to Samantha (Sam) after she got married, it made my jaw drop. Her husband's death did not signal her freedom. Far from it. And the abuse she suffered when she was held against her will? She comes to the conclusion that no one not even her brother is coming to her rescue. So she makes sure she toughens up so she can rescue herself at the first opportunity. She also has her maid Lucy to think about and rescue. When she meets back up with George, she doesn't trust his words after hearing how off the rails he had gone as "Charming." She also vows she will never be under any man or woman's thumb again. I will be honest and say that I wish her ex-mother-in-law had more justice served against her but that didn't happen.
George had more redeeming qualities even though he wasted himself for so long. At least he was getting tired of how empty his bed hopping was making him. That does make for a turning point in his life. He sure does have his work cut out for him when he realized that Sam is the one and only for him. His skill in bed does serve him well when he puts them to use with Sam. It makes for some hot scenes between the two. Sam still resists marriage for a long time even though she knows she still loves George.
There is an interesting twist towards the end when it comes to Percival. I was kind of expecting him to try and come for Sam and try to force her into marriage again.
Sam and George do get their H.E.A. with a good Epilogue as well.
