The Waiting Place- A Good Read

The Waiting Place: Learning to Appreciate Life's Little Delays

The Waiting Place " by Eileen Button is a well written homely about learning from the places of waiting. Instead of cursing the silence; instead of cursing not being able to just rush ahead into something, anything; learning to be patient in the middle of life's circumstances. She shows that its human nature not to want to wait but often we have no choice and must wait anyway. She points out the value and even the importance of this part of life; that we could miss out because we aren't enjoying the journey; and aren't looking for the beauty/holiness of these moments. We often cheat ourselves when we push to make something happen when its really time to wait.
I found her book to be one written with honesty, humor. She opened her life and let us look in. She is truthful in showing us that it is frustrating, waiting is not easy; we will try to fight it but she also makes you think how honest her reactions are; no white washing to make herself look better; just a real person with a real life. Not always pretty subjects, but she let the walls down and connects to the reader. The insight into life as a pastor's wife while not a total surprise, was surprising to see written down in black and white. Not many pastor's or their wives will usually talk about it these things .The few examples that she gave are brutally honest and should cause us as Christians to cut our leaders a break.
