Going Deep: by Gordon MacDonald- really slow delivery on a good idea

Going Deep: by Gordon MacDonald
Becoming a Person of Influence-

This narrative is set in a fictional setting, with eyes to the future church. Identifying what that looks like and finding people who have a passion for Jesus. They are looking for those who want to grow (deepen) and maintain that growth both inside and outside the church. It’s about a out-side the box of thinking when it comes to training Leaders; and to have that influence grow. Its about becoming a serious, committed, student ; making the choice to lay down many things to do the one thing best. and wanting to continue to go deeper in God with mentoring, and Intense training from those who have gone before. In the story it has a group of people that you can follow and watch them as they grow into a Team. It also It shows an unexpected connection and explanation to how Jesus trained those he picked to go with him and how the Rabbi’s have done from the past until now. “Going Deep” can be seen on many different levels in this story if you really look.

The theme is fine-the question itself is worthy of investigation BUT there’s just too many words, the message kind of gets lost at times in the narrative; much of it being repetitive.. It left me feeling as I was reading it; that I was a gold rush miner panning for gold, sifting through ALL the sand to get to the gold in the story. It was hard work; with a few worthwhile nuggets here and there. That said, it did cause me to ask some questions about the “deepness” of my walk and to look at some of the questions in a more serious way. The comparison of church against the training sessions of businesses was eye-opening. The fact is the businesses are training for excellence; are dead serious and totally focused on it. Could a lesson be learned here?
