"This Thing of Ours" by Cammy Franzese- Gritty Faith

“ This Thing of Ours:
How Faith Saved My Mafia Marriage”
By Cammy Franzese

This is a story of Michael, a handsome man with a kind, generous, magnetic personality and a young woman Cammy, who was innocent and somewhat naive. Michael was everything she had hoped for and she allowed herself to see him as her Knight in Shining Armor. This story is told from the wife’s perspective with her being very open about her dysfunctional childhood and her blindness to all of the warning signs of what marriage to Michael would be like. She just never put it together until much later that he really was a part of the Mafia and that it would play a large part in their lives together. It is a story of true love; but in the real world; with all the challenges of staying together and raising their children; sometimes together but also with large portions of times when Michael was away in prison. God got them through but you also see the struggles they went through until they really relied on Him.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Why? Not only was the story excellent but the threads of living your faith every day was there in much of the writing. It was real and at times gritty.
She expressed the times she doubted, questioned, feared; and wondered if God was really there with her; something that most of us can identify with. While not a book for children to read; I believe many people would benefit from reading this book if they would look in and see the influence of Cammy’s mother‘s faith and how it was handed down to her daughter. Her mother like the author said, was a prayer warrior; her answer was to pray over everything; to keep loving people and to pray people into the kingdom of God; to trust God. And then her mother lived it; taking full responsibility for the choices she made and not taking the “easy way” out of things. It was helpful to see another person give examples of what her daily walk of faith with God looked like!
