Glory. One single word, that carries so much. So many meanings for it, so much misunderstanding about it. The author explained it himself, he said the call is this: "Make your life one unflinching gaze upon the glory of Christ. Do this and you will live. Don't do this and you will die." You won't have victory over sin, you won't make it through your struggle. You will spend all your time on counterfeit beauty and waste your life."
I liked this book, the author did a good job. There is some meat that you can sink your teeth into. But its also presented in a way that was easy to understand and digest. I like his writing style and his examples through some of his own personal life. I didn't find this a dry read at all. I found myself taking a fair amount of notes, things I wanted to go back and savor. Also a big plus to me was the fact that he continually made sure he was pointing you back to Jesus. And he wasn't shy about including scripture to the study.
- I liked the definition of idolatry that Augustine gave: "disordered love". I'll leave you with a few other notes of what got my attention.
- We worship what we enjoy and respect the most.
- The glory begins with worship
- We worship our way into sin and we have to worship our way out
- The gospel by its nature is offensive.
- Behold Him
This book is going into my Keeper Library, because reading it once just isn't enough.
I received a FREE copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers
