BOOK REVIEW- Seal of Approval (SEAL Series Book 1) by Jack Silkstone

Dating just got selective.

Mike Saunders is a SEAL dog handler with a knack for picking the wrong women. So much so that his SEAL buddies have planned a Girlfriend Selection Course to test the character of his next love interest. When he falls for the veterinarian rehabilitating his wounded Military Working Dog, things rapidly spiral out of control.

SEAL of Approval is romance meets action in a light-hearted love story with a serious twist. It is dedicated to the Military Working Dogs who have served, loyal and steadfast, alongside their handlers in the world’s deadliest conflict zones.   AMAZON 3 STARS

This was a light, fun adventure with a developing romance.  We are reading about SEALS in a tight team so there will be trainings and dangers.  Axe who is the wounded Military Working dog is also not someone to take lightly. He's been wounded in action .  But he is still a highly trained and skilled weapon as well as a beloved partner to Mike. The relationship between the two was strong and sweet. Axe's attitude does need some adjusting after his injury. But Ali the vet who is helping him has some serious skills and techniques when it comes to dealing with him.  That also includes any P.T.S.D the dog may be suffering from.

The rest of Mike's SEAL team are just looking out for him when it comes to choosing a good woman the next time.  Having said that, they are often quite juvenile at times.  All in all they are good guys though and you wouldn't want anyone else having your back in a battle.
As it turns out Ali has quite a few unexpected skills as the story goes on.  One in particular helps the team when they are cornered.   Ali's sister Leonie is married with two little girls.  And the more that I think about it she's almost a female Rick when it comes to the conversations that she has about Ali's love life.

Speaking of Rick, if they had to tell him to shut his pie hole once they had to do it a lot.  He had no filter.
The story does come to a satisfying end.

BOOK REVIEW- Then Came You: A Laws of Attraction Novel by Kate Meader

Description

In the courtroom, they’re rivals. In the bedroom, they’re . . . divorced. But could the road trip from hell lead to a second chance at love?

Aubrey Gates is the hottest divorce lawyer in Chicago, a barb-tongued stiletto with legs that go on for miles. When her cool gray eyes meet mine across the battlefield, I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone or anything. Then I remember who she is: the woman who brought me to my knees. The woman who destroyed my faith in relationships.

The woman I used to call . . . wife.

And she needs a favor from me, Grant Lincoln.

It seems my ex forgot to mention the demise of our marriage to her dear old grammy, and now we’re both expected to attend her ninetieth birthday party. In Boston. And because it isn’t already awkward enough, Aubrey and I are driving there together from Chicago. That’s more than a thousand miles of tension, heartbreak, and barely concealed lust.

A little piece of paper might say we’re over, but this road trip is the true test. I intend to get my wife back . . . and I won’t stop until “I do.”  AMAZON 4 STARS

This was a totally emotional story with really great main characters. I liked being able to get both of the main characters P.O.V.'s.  Grant was quite the surprise.  He was this huge man with such a huge heart.  And with a change of pace, he is the nurturer in the story.  Protector yes, but he is a nurturer when it comes to her. He also had so much patience with such a messed up Aubrey.  Even after their painful divorce, he's still so in love with her.  And for the most part he really gets her but he is also having a hard time getting past some of her coolness, her walls when it comes to feelings.
Aubrey has been taught to keep everything pushed down and all it's really done is to bite her in the butt.  Big time.  Oh, she's an awesome attorney but her personal life?  Yow.   Her own family has never really had her best interests at heart.  Well, except for her grandmother.  The rest are cold, closed up and a lot of drama happens around them.  Sounds a little bit the two things wouldn't go together but they do.

Cat Damon, the cat is a zany addition to this story. And Aubrey's grandmother who was spunky and someone I'm sure I would have liked in real life.

There is a H.E.A. for this couple but the way they got there kept me interested.  Oh, just as a additional piece of information, there is ex-marital sex in the story too.  But didn't we expect that?
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

BOOK REVIEW- Loving the Sergeant (D.E.V.I.N. Series Book 5) by Katina Gavin

When an ex-Marine struggles to feel whole as a wounded warrior, one man will be her salvation. But first, she’ll have to save his life.

Sergeant Emerson’s medical discharge from military service scares her witless. Especially when as a fresh amputee she’s designated as a bodyguard to a quirky genius. But after she’s placed in civilian housing with a handsome man who sees past her pride, her soldier’s heart softens.
Tika never expected to be attracted to the fiercely proud ex-Marine sharing his quarters. Sensing that her emotional pain goes far beyond her traumatic injury, he’s drawn to help her heal and find love. But deep down, he knows a future together is doomed: he wants a family and Emerson has made it obvious she doesn’t feel the same.
When a dramatic assassination attempt throws Tika into the line of fire, raw emotions pull the couple closer. Can the pair move past their stalemate to create a future together, or will the war vet’s painful past destroy love's future?  AMAZON      3.5 STARS

I had major mixed emotions on this one!
Both Emerson and Tika (which by the way I liked that name) each were people with depths to them.  These two people stirred up plenty of emotions.
At first there seemed to be almost too many people to keep up with.  But I guess it makes sense because where Emerson is sent to work is a strong community.  Both when it comes to security and the strong family bonds.
This story was different especially when it came to who is being protected.  A genius, okay that might be expected.  But the childishness of that genius while being a creative idea is a bit over the top for me a lot of the times. So was some of the sexual language.
There is a additional surprise that is revealed over time and it has to do with another reason for Emerson's difficulty when it comes to feelings.  That was a great twist.  With all of that said, I'm not so sure that I will be continuing to read this series.

BOOK REVIEW- The Billionaire's Secret Marriage (The Limitless Clean Billionaire Romance Series Book 1) by Tamie Dearen

Stephanie Caldwell made the worst mistake of her life… she fell in love with her boss.

Steph doesn’t care that Bran is totally blind—at least he’ll never notice the longing looks she gives him. If only she could warn him about the lack of love on his conniving fiancée’s face. But Steph has to keep her mouth shut, or she could lose her job, along with the health insurance that keeps her daughter alive.

Billionaire Branson Knight knows women regard him as a pitiful blind man, his wealth his only attraction. So his engagement is merely a means to an end. But the last thing he wants to end is his relationship with Stephanie—he depends way too much on his efficient personal assistant.

Can Stephanie stand by while Bran’s devious fiancée coerces him into a quickie marriage? Or will she lose her temper… and everything else along with it?   AMAZON 4 STARS

This was a good story with good main characters.  I liked the forward that the author included.  It gave some extra insights into her family experiences when it came to people being without sight.  She adds that in ways that benefit the story a lot.

Finn, Jarrett, Cole are good, long-time friends who really want to have Bran's back even more than he wants to remain more independent. He's dealing with some insecurities that they aren't aware of but they do truly want to help.  They also want the Bran that they knew for.  The adventurous almost fearless friend that they knew before. And they are getting tired of his shutting them out and isolating himself.
Carina is the villain of the piece but she isn't alone in it.   There are plenty of plots swirling around in the background.  There is also more to Carina than first expected as well.
The way that the secret marriage played out was a little different than I was expecting.
There is a good H.E.A. which the Epilogue pulls together very nicely.

BOOK REVIEW- Getting Her Groom (DiCarlo Brides Book 7) by Heather Tullis

A career on Broadway is the only thing Angela wants more than she wants Alex.

Despite her best efforts over the summer, he doesn’t seem the least interested, so she’s focused on finishing up her senior project—a musical she and a friend created whose proceeds will benefit a local community center. Hopefully the performances will allow it to keep its doors open until the next big grant comes through.
Alex has been fascinated by the much-younger woman, but twelve years age difference is too much for him to overlook. Still, he can’t say no when her pianist for the show is injured and she asks him to fill in. When someone does their best to sabotage the show, Alex steps up to help figure out what is going on. Can they catch the person responsible and save the community center? And if they do, will their relationship be able to survive the separation when she moves to New York City to pursue a career in the theater?   AMAZON  3.5 STARS

Although I like this author and this series, this book isn't one of my favorites.  I liked it okay but I just found it kind of hard to get into.  Which is a shame because I was interested in Alex getting his own romance story.  I missed the book in between that had to do with Angela before she started to grow up.  So I can't say that her earlier nastiness had anything to do with my feelings about this book.   Her being a brat before this she mentioned in this book and a few other reviewers did too.
Yes, there were good main characters, and supporting people including some of The Sisters.  Jonquil who is Angela's half-sister does show up in this one.  Hattie is Angela's best friend and is helping composing and producing this play.  I just felt like most of the people didn't really have all that much depth and I missed that.
There was also some interesting people plotting.  The one person who was causing some of the problems was only a semi-surprise to me.   I had begun to have some suspicions about that person.
There is a H.E.A.  but one of the solutions for Angela I saw coming almost a mile away.  That was a bit predictable but maybe I've read so many books it just seemed like a logical solution.  I did pick up the hints that were given by different people in the book though.

BOOK REVIEW- Burn for You (Slow Burn Book 1) by J.T. Geissinger

A classic fairy tale gets a sexy, edgy twist.
Jackson “The Beast” Boudreaux is rich, gorgeous, and unbelievably rude to the staff at Chef Bianca Hardwick’s New Orleans restaurant. Bianca would sooner douse herself in hot sauce than cook for Jackson again, but when he asks her to cater his fund-raiser, Bianca can’t refuse, knowing the cash will help pay her mother’s medical bills. Then Jackson makes another outrageous request: Marry me. The unconventional offer includes an enormous sum—money Bianca desperately needs, even if it does come with a contract—and a stunning ring.
The heir to a family bourbon dynasty, Jackson knows the rumors swirling around him. The truth is even darker. Still, he needs a wife to secure his inheritance, and free-spirited, sassy Bianca would play the part beautifully. Soon, though, their simple business deal evolves into an emotional intimacy he’s built walls to avoid.
As the passion heats up between them, Bianca and Jackson struggle to define which feelings are real and which are for show. Is falling for your fake fiancé the best happy ending…or a recipe for disaster?   AMAZON    5+Stars

We get both of the main character's points of view in alternating chapters.  I liked that.  It was also funnier than I expected.  Some of the conversations with just Bianca's restaurant staff was hilarious!  And I wasn't very far into the book before I laughed out loud more than once. Way more.  In fact, this just might be one of the funniest books that I have read in a while.  The way that Bianca thinks and talks.  The sarcasm was great! She had sarcasm for other yes, but also herself.   I found myself smiling so  many other times too.
I like the way this author puts the story together.  Just the colorful descriptions of the people and their ways was worth it all.
Don't think that it's all going to be all laughter though.  The emotions are there because of some of the serious issues in the book.  It even wrung a tear or two out of me too!  Especially towards the end when more and more of the truth of Jackson's previous life begins to unfold.  Also Bianca's mother brings some pretty serious and emotional things too.

There are recipes dispersed through out the book in between Chapters. Just in case you are interested in that as well.  With names like, "Bianca's Old Cuban" or "Ginger-Orange Cheesecake", or "Bloody Dixie".  Last one the "Slap, Slap, Kiss Cocktail." That's not all of them but there are so many recipes that I am unfamiliar with.
I borrowed this book for free with my Prime Reading membership.  And I loved it so much, I want to just run out and buy it.  Oh wait.  Amazon! I can get it there.   I don't have to run out anywhere!

BOOK REVIEW- Steadfast (Eternal Brethren Military Romantic Suspense Book 1) Shirleen Davies

He’s secretive and commanding. She’s having none of it.

Never one to shirk his duty, the transition from sea-loving warrior to president of an undercover motorcycle club is as smooth as a ride on his beloved Harley. Can he shelter her from danger and his secret life without losing the trust she so fiercely guards?
Steadfast is book one in the Eternal Brethren Military Romantic Suspense Series by best seller Shirleen Davies. It is a stand-alone, full-length novel with no cliffhanger and a guaranteed HEA.
AMAZON 5 STARS

Man, oh man was this book good. I was hoping that it would deliver on the promise of a good book and did it ever!
Great main characters, great action, romance and supporting cast of people.
Although Cara was an intelligent, well educated woman she also did the requisite stupid thing a time or two.  But mainly, she didn't realize all that was going on at first.  Oh, the attraction thing she got all right but she also had trust issues when it came to men.  She had some serious reasons when it came to men who kept secrets.  So, you can see where some of the challenges that will come between Cara and Wrath, right?
I like how tight the Brethren Posse is and really enjoyed the way they had each others backs.

I have read this author's books before and liked them.  But I have to say that this first book in this series just shot to the top of my LOVED series book list.  I'm hoping that the rest when they come along keep that same kind of quality.
Yes, there is a H.E.A. and the opening for more adventures.  Mainly because only some of the problems that the team faced were solved.  So, you have the choice of ending it right here or continuing on.  My choice?  I can hardly wait for the next adventure.

BOOK REVIEW- Millie Marries a Marshal: A Historical Western Romance (Brides with Grit Series Book 2) by Linda Hubalek

Millie Marries a Marshal: A Historical Western Romance (Brides with Grit Series Book 2) by [Hubalek, Linda K.]

A sweet western romance set in 1873. Mail-order bride Millie Donovan was looking forward to meeting Sam Larson, a Kansas homesteader, who she is sure, from reading his heartfelt letters, will provide her with the love and safety she wants and needs. Millie arrives on the train, not realizing that her husband-to-be was killed in an accident, until Clear Creek’s town marshal informs her of the situation.

Town Marshal Adam Wilerson never plans to marry due to his dangerous job. After reading letters found at his friend’s home following his untimely death which were sent from his friend’s mail-order bride, he can’t help thinking of the woman, and believes he may be in love with her himself. But instead of sending Millie on the train back to her former home, he finds himself welcoming her—and her two-year-old charge—into his house, and into his heart.

When danger threatens, Millie faces it head–on to protect the people she loves, including the town marshal.

Can Adam keep the peace in town—and his house—or will the man following Millie cause an uproar that will endanger them both, and ruin their chance of a life together? AMAZON 3 STARS

This was a fast, sometimes charming story.  Of course, there is the expected danger because there has to be a challenge of some kind right?
It didn't take me too long to figure out at least a part of where that danger might be coming from.
I found the Wilerson family and how they pulled together was good.  The additional people and their relationship to that family got muddied for me a couple of times.  It felt like I had to keep sorting who went with who more than once.
The story does come to a H.E.A. although how things worked out when the "enemy" showed up was a little bit different than I was expecting.  I wasn't sure how that was going to work out but it was a good twist.
The Baker's Kiss added more sweetness and was kind of cute.  But if you are looking for a really deeper story, you might not be as happy with this one.
I do have to agree with another Amazon reviewer who said that this was like a Western version of Mayberry.  But a point in it's favor is that it is a sweet, clean, complete book with no cliffhangers.

BOOK REVIEW- Rainy Day Friends: (Wildstone #2) A Novel by Jill Shalvis

Six months after Lanie Jacobs’ husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen her sense of pain and loss. But then Lanie discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his sudden passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who, like Lanie, each believe she was his legally wedded wife.
Rocked by the infidelity, Lanie is left to grapple with searing questions. How could she be so wrong about a man she thought she knew better than anyone? Will she ever be able to trust another person?  Can she even trust herself?
Desperate to make a fresh start, Lanie impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. At first, she feels like an outsider among the boisterous Capriottis. With no real family of her own, she’s bewildered by how quickly they all take her under their wing and make her feel like she belongs. Especially Mark Capriotti, a gruffly handsome Air Force veteran turned deputy sheriff who manages to wind his way into Lanie’s cold, broken heart—along with the rest of the clan.
Everything is finally going well for her, but the arrival of River Green changes all that. The fresh-faced twenty-one-year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light—secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build. AMAZON 5+ Stars

I fell in love with this story. It happened pretty quickly and steadily.

The Capriotti family is hilarious.  The opening chapter when Lanie first met them made me grin from ear to ear. They were nuts but in the best possible way.  So many of the conversations in the book were funny to with a lot of sarcastic humor.  Don't worry though there will be a developing romance between  Lanie and Mark.  It's more like a dance of 1 step forward and 2 steps back.  And it's like that for quite a while without being boring.
Something else that made me grin was the opening headline for each chapter.  Some pretty funny thoughts with Anxiety often doing some talking. Of course one on my favorites had to  be  the one about cucumbers. "The human body is 90 percent water so basically we're all just cucumbers with anxiety."   I'm not sure everyone is going to get that but I loved it.
There is plenty of emotional issues going on and I think it was pretty well done.
Cora was the heart of the story too.  And she shared with her big heart with everyone but that didn't mean that she couldn't be the tough boss when she needed to be.
The twin little girls  Samantha (Sam) and Sierra (Sea) were a welcome, loving but so often mischievous hoot!

Every single person in the book was someone interesting in their own right.  They also had depth and I was almost sorry to see the book come to an end.  A happy ending but still.  Everyone became a part of the Capriotti family even if it's not by blood. They pulled people into their heart often and when you were in you were in.
Even with all of the serious issues facing the people in the book I also never laughed so hard or so much in a long time while reading a book.
This book shot up to the top of my favorites list.  It was a book that I borrowed but I loved it so much that I will just have to get my own copy so that I can re-read it.

It's only a job. Right. A mysterious code. A woman determined to fulfill her destiny, no matter the cost. A man who'll sacrifice everything to save her   AMAZON
                                                                                   3 STARS

Sorry to say that this story just didn't pull  me in. Even though the main characters were different and the story had potential. I didn't hate it, it just didn't move me.
I did like the name Malerie and her name's spelling.  Also her heritage came as a bit of a surprise but I did like that.
Ace is in the job for the money. Or so he says.  He is a good guy with a stack of bills that he needs to see get paid.  But he's lying to himself when he says he's ONLY in it for the money.
It felt at even 41% of the story that they were just chasing their tails with not a whole lot happening.
Things do get moving with some close calls.  The villain of the piece gets revealed.  I can't say that I was surprise by who it was.
There is also a H.E.A. ending.

BOOK REVIEW- Taken (Deep Ops #1.5) by Rebecca Zanetti

Hunter Holt might be the most stubborn ex-soldier ever born, but when he’s called on to help find a lost foster kid, he jumps into action. Even if it means working with the woman who broke his heart five years ago—the woman who still haunts his dreams . . .AMAZON  4 STARS

Really good main characters with a pretty tense re-meeting of the two.  Hunter and Faye have quite a history.  A pretty long one with a lot of pain on all sides.  They even have another childhood connection with Raider Tanaka and another young man named Mark.  They all grew up together at Miss. A's foster home.  Miss. A. is their love name for Miss. Angelina.   She is the only one who drew them in with her love and care for them.  But they also knew that she wielded a wicked wooden spoon when it was needed.  Not in a abusive way but loving correction.  I got the feeling that she didn't have to use it too often. It made me smile when I read how well they knew her.  When Mrs. A had a hat on her head it meant she was either going to church or to war with someone.
I just seemed to zoom through this story.  It kept me involved all the way through.
The lost kid was named Jackson and he is in WAY over his head.  There is also a whole lot more to his story.  Which puts him into some intense danger.
Several other interesting people will pop up in the story.  They add humor and even more of an edge to the story. Look out for Roscoe, this dog just isn't normal.
I liked how the story ended with H.E.A.   A good Epilogue brings us to that point.

Raider gets his own story in " Fallen" There's  a quick look into that book at the end of this one.  And I'm interested.

BOOK REVIEW- Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals by Rachel Hollis

Title details for Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis - Wait list
“I believe we can change the world. But first, we’ve got to stop living in fear of being judged for who we are.”
Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough.
In Girl, Stop Apologizing, #1 New York Times bestselling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people—whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee—instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.  AMAZON

Amazing what happened.  I wasn't very far into the book  when I had an epiphany.  Let me be honest.  I was in the intro of the book, "What if?".  My "aha" moment came when I realized I do a lot of INTERNAL apologizing.  Even when it came to reading this book quickly enough because I knew other people were waiting for it!  How useless is that?  I couldn't get to it right away because of other obligations and I'm apologizing to unseen, unknown people?  Yeah, right.  That is twisted. Example after example popped into my mind.   That's going to change now that I recognize it!
I really liked the set-up of the book and starting with the excuses was genius!
Toddler Status.  Now that was an interesting insight.  In other words, give your self the slack that toddlers do.  Keep picking yourself up and trying to walk again.  After all, no matter how old you are this is something new.  Something you've never done before.
So many nuggets...like personal growth is supposed to be personal.  It's not one size fits all.  Be strict about your goal but flexible about how you get there.
Or that you have a jerk version of yourself in your head.  It likes to point out all of your flaws.  Love that one!
Perfectionism is just another "excuse" not to try. My thought is it another form of all or nothing at all thinking?  That one has bit me more than once I have to admit. It's so important to remember The Why.  I've already started on the Why for a specific area.
Overall, a really helpful book.

Keith J. Cunningham was mentioned when it came to taking a class to overcome insecurities when it comes to business finances.  Rachel said if you can get an opportunity to see him speak live, grab it.  He made understanding basic accounting principles come alive for her.  No one else ever had made it so simple for her.

PRIME READING- BOOK REVIEW- Highland Spring (Seasons of Fortitude Book 1) Elizabeth Rose

Spring has been raised as a warrior, always trying to please her father of Viking descent. Through the years she's tried to be the son he wished her to be. At a young age she's chosen the bow and arrows of a dead man as her weapon, and now she's mastered the skill. Growing up without a mother, the only skill she hasn't mastered is how to be a lady and someday a mother. But now her father decides to marry her off to their enemy, Shaw Gordon, in order to get inside the castle walls. Wanting to be a part of overtaking the castle, she goes along with the plan.

Shaw Gordon, chieftain, and laird is a widower with two boys and one unruly adolescent daughter. He decides it's time to take a wife again, but never expects to be presented with his enemy's daughter. The woman is fierce, and nothing like the mother he wants for his children. The Gunn clan has been an enemy of the Gordons for as long as he can remember. While an alliance would be good, he doesn't trust them.

Can two enemies push aside their differences for the benefit of all? And can a woman draw strength from herself as well as from her new husband when she discovers the horrible secret of her past - that her entire life is nothing but a lie? AMAZON
                                                          4 STARS

What a great main character Spring turned out to be.  She appeared to be all warrior and yes she was a good one.  But there was also so much depth in her that she kept hidden.  Of course the way she grew up she had to keep any vulnerabilities hidden.  To be the tough warrior her father wanted.  Not only wanted but demanded.  The only true kindness or tenderness she experienced was when Shaw became her husband.  A husband that while he married her also suspects that the Gunn clan that she is part of is planning something evil.
He is an honorable man but he is also having a bit of a pride issue with her abilities as a warrior. Also is the peace treaty that was established with his marriage real?  He didn't think so and wavered back and forth on whether or not he could trust Spring.
The three children of Shaw Gordon add to the story with all their varied issues and whether or not they wanted to accept Spring as their  "new" mother. Colina, Donel and Leith are not babies, they are older children who still miss their birth mother.
The mysteries surrounding Spring and her brothers keep swirling. And the truth does all come out at last.
This book has a good ending that had plenty of emotion and action throughout it.

I borrowed this book for free with my Prime Reading membership, which is a really nice perk!

BOOK REVIEW- Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins

For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare — poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him “The Fittest (Real) Man in America.”

In Can't Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential. AMAZON

This book is in your face, no doubt about it. Almost like shock therapy, in the best possible way. And sometimes it's just raw.
The introduction in this book was well thought out and different statements were quick to catch my attention.   The thing that really popped out to me there was that  many of us are addicted to comfort.  That denial is the ultimate comfort zone.  Wow or ouch?  I guess that decision is up to each of us.  We  have the option to either re-evaluate or stay in denial.
I also found myself in 100% agreement when he mentioned that  trying to motivate yourself by your best pep talk or self-help hack is nothing but a temporary fix.  I've been there and done that.
The dedication was a really good one, all captured in one sentence.  "To the unrelenting voice in my head that will never allow me to stop." It's time to go to war with yourself (another getting your attention provoker).  All that even before getting into the rest of the book.
He wasn't kidding when he said his childhood was horrible.  It was brutal! Starting with his father but that was only the starting point for some of the "hell" he was going to go through.  It was definitely preparation for the mental toughness he went on to learn. I also liked his thoughts about developing and using Your (own personal) Cookie Jar.  Your Cookie Jar is your shortcut to control your own thought process and you'll need it to push thorough.
Another statement that caught my attention was that it's time to abandon the path of least resistance.
There are challenges offered in the book as you read through.  Making it interactive not a spectator kind of book.  Also a few pictures are included.
Before I forget to mention it there will some raw adult language in the book. But I think some other reviewers have already mentioned that.  My advice is gather up the best of what you can and let the rest go.
On a personal note, although the marathons were part of the story, those I didn't enjoy quite as much.   But they are a part of his story and the things he learned.
This book was full of surprises but the last chapter holds even more.
On a final note I would like to add that I first got introduced to this author by seeing him on a TV segment with Pickler & Ben.  I liked what he said that he had to conquer himself.
There were 2 statements that went off like a rocket to me especially the first one:
" I believe that in order to find peace, you must be willing to go to war with yourself."
And the second one was that
"My mind was shackling me.”
After that  I also went to one of the links on David's site  https://davidgoggins.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/01-2019-Outsider-Goggins.pdf
I knew for sure after that I just HAD to read his book and I am glad that I did.

BOOK REVIEW- Driftwood Bay :A Hope Harbor Novel Book #5 by Irene Hannon

Description

After tragedy upends her world, Jeannette Mason retreats to the tiny Oregon seaside town of Hope Harbor to create a new life. Vowing to avoid emotional attachments, she focuses on running her lavender farm and tea-room--until a new neighbor with a destructive dog and a forlorn little girl invades her turf. But she needn't worry. Dr. Logan West is too busy coping with an unexpected family, a radical lifestyle change, and an unruly pup to have any interest in his aloof and disagreeable neighbor.

Yet when both Jeanette and Logan find themselves pulled into the life of a tattered Christian family fleeing persecution in war-torn Syria, might they discover that love sometimes comes calling when it's least expected?   AMAZON
                                 4.5 STARS

This book was even better than I expected.   It was emotional as you could have guessed.  But it was emotional without being mushy.
Exceptional main characters with great depth.  It was also several main character families suffering some of the similar things, even if some of situations were different.  Grief was one main theme.  Trying to start over in unfamiliar settings is another.  Relationship with God is another.
Jeannett, is the Lavender Lady who is all alone and that is how she has decided that's how she wants it to stay.  Including people, getting involved in people's lives just invites the possibility of more loss and pain.  Nope.  She doesn't want to go there again.
Logan West and his niece, Molly are starting from scratch when it comes to knowing each other.  Things are NOT going well.  Add in that wild beagle dog, Toby and Logan's stress level just got upped. You've got to admire a single guy who upends his whole life for his niece though.
Mariam, and her last surviving son, Thomma, and his daughter Elisa  Shabos bring their own kind of loss and pain.  Mariam's faith is strong but few people see her struggle to adjust but she is doing her best to keep her family together and trust God.  She is thankful to have opportunity to leave the camps and saw that thought things are difficult, there is opportunities being offered to them.  Thomma is sunk deep in depression, he's bitter and not making much effort.  He's just putting one foot in front of the other and hoping things will get better.  Not that he thinks it will.  Caught in the midst of his agony is his daughter, who has lost much of what the rest of the family has. Added to her grief, is the grief of her father rejecting her over and over.  Elisa is hurting not understanding why her father has changed from the loving, involved father she knew.
What a great community these people landed in.  When they say they are there for you, they aren't afraid to show up.  It's proved more than once in this story.  They also welcomed the
Shabos family with open arms and went the extra mile to help.
Charly is a unique character who makes wonderful fish tacos and connects with people in an almost supernatural way.  He cares about people and spreads non-judgemental wisdom as he goes.
Two more people made me smile.  It was the interaction between  Reverend Baker and Father Murphy.  Not only were they caring people but they were also funny.  They worked together when it came to helping the Shabos family and I liked to see that.  But the humorous ribbing between Baker and Murphy was fun to see too.
There is a H.E.A. for all but it's going to be hard work for all for quite a while.
I'm glad that a Epilogue is added because I always like to see how things move forward for people.

It is the most important mission of his life—and he'd risk everything to save the one woman he can't live without.  AMAZON
                                                                                                                    4 STARS

This was a good, fast story with plenty of danger and action.
Gabriella's father has had quite a few serious secrets that he's hidden but they are about to be blown wide open.  And when she finds out about them, it's going to rock her world.  It's also going to explain a lot of things to her as well.  Her life has been so controlled by her father but that grinds to a halt when he pulls some shady moves with her future.  She's been attracted to Whit for some time and they  had their one moment.  And you can see where that got her.
Whit was a good main character as well but it seemed like more attention was spent on Gabby. Although to be fair, we did find out why Whit always seemed to appear cold and controlled.  We do see him showing up to try to rescue Gabby more than once.  But is it really all about his job?  That is Gabby's main question as well.
Two other people play important parts in the story as well.  Charlotte Green and Whit's former friend, Aaron.  They were both in Book #1    Which I have not read but now I wished I had.  I still think that I will go back and read it. It doesn't feel like it's essential to read it before this one but it did sound interesting too.

                                                                                                     4.5 STARS

I figured this was going to be a fairly short, quick romance book that would be resolved fairly fast.  Pretty much wrong on all counts  Well except that it was a romance but also so much deeper.
I didn't look at how many pages there were in the book before I grabbed it.  It was longer than I was expecting.
One of my favorite quotes was when Corina heard the words  for her to "love well."  And it crops up more times and that adds some discomfort for her.  She's not even sure she knows what that means or how to do that.
Both of the main characters were people of pretty good depth.   Each had deep sorrows and that isn't even counting their marriage.  Their marriage was something that they both thought was null and void.  So that document showing up was quite the shock to both.
Nathaniel and the rest of the family were engaging and added a lot to the story.
When the book blurb said that the couple would have a little bit of heavenly help, I kind of skimmed over that part. I was thinking what a great way to put it and that was all.  I should have paid more attention because that statement was real.   When it showed up in the book, it was like, "Oh, they really meant it."  It also added a dimension to the book that I wasn't expecting but really enjoyed.  God and Corina's faith is an important part in this story.
It is woven so beautifully in the story.
I have to admit that at one point towards the end the story did bring tears to  my eyes.
There were several unexpected twists to the story until it came to a satisfying ending.

There is a Discussion Questions section to this book as well.

BOOK REVIEW- Matchmaking the Billionaire (Billionaires & Babies Book 2) by Leslie North

When single mother Haley Renault’s boss, Nicholas Hunter, makes a bet that he’ll get married before his buddy does, Haley sees the perfect opportunity. While Haley is no romantic, she firmly believes her dating app can find anyone—even self-centered, maddening Nick—a perfect match. If she can show Nick the app actually works, then he might approve it, and Haley’s dreams of success could begin. There’s only one hitch. The man Nick presents to the outside world is nothing like the caring, selfless one she’s getting to know—the one she’s starting to fall in love with.

Nick loves money and all the power and prestige that comes with it. With a cool million riding on a bet with his buddy, he’s determined to win, and Haley’s dating app is just the advantage he needs. But the app’s matches bore him—they’re only interested in his money. He can’t help but wish they were more like Haley—funny, sexy, intelligent, and a woman who sees the man behind the billions. But just as he realizes Haley just might be his perfect match, the app comes through with his “ideal” woman. It’s a chance—maybe the only chance—to show the world Haley’s app actually works.

All Nick wants is Haley, and all Haley wants is for her app to work. It’s a bind all the money in the world can’t fix, and Haley and Nick will have to unravel it before their perfect ‘match’ gets away.

3 STARS

This was a fast, charming story.  The unusual plot is what caught my eye  And so did the name of the author. I liked the story but it wasn't that deep so it's not on the top of my favorites list.
Haley was a brilliant app designer who was trying to play catch-up when it came to her career.  Being a single mother had kind of put her behind where she had originally started. She loved her daughter, Amanda with all her heart and wasn't sorry that she had her.  She was busting her butt to make a better life for them both. And not  to make a repeat of the mistakes of her past.  That mistake was falling for a rich man with more charisma than character.
Nick seems to be all like that former man in Haley's past and that scares her.  He's rich, and doesn't seem to be all that deep where it comes to living his life.  They do have a good working vibe going on, they work together like friends.  Still, there is an attraction there.  There is plenty of things working against that though and Hailey is the main resister.
Nick's bet with his best friends is definitely immature but he does feel like he's missing something. And he definitely is.
There is a H.E.A. coming although like any good romance there will be some "stuff" that has to be worked though.

One Night That Changes Everything...  AMAZON
                                                                     3 STARS

This book is written in a style that I normally don't care for too much.  But in this case the change back and forth between the Summer of 1990 and Present Day of 2015 was fairly smooth. Not to hard to keep up with at all.  Especially since they are clearly mentioned when the timeline changes. That I did like.
The pace of this book is slower but also emotional as well.
Both Rohn and Bonnie did make for interesting main characters.  So did Tyler, Colton and Justin.  All three young men worked for Rohn as ranch hands.  They also were more than just ranch hands because there was some friendships mixed in there with their boss.
Bonnie has kept a pretty large secret for years but you know it has to come out.  The author did a good job of slowly peeling the secrets out over time.
A  H.E.A. does happen at the end of the book, which I liked.
