-----------------------------------------------------My 5 STAR Review TITLED: Surprises all around
Sasha Kozlov, is a Russian woman who loves her Russian family; the criminal parts and all. She just doesn't want to live the criminal lifestyle. She an expert art examiner, who has been living in London; separating the fake from the real. She's excellent at it too ! And that's what gets all the trouble started ! She has spotted and reported fakes going through Christie's auctions. It makes the owner Adrian furious and he's out for blood ! He is obsessed with Sasha and with ruining the Kozlov business and family ! Nothing is too much to accomplish that goal.
Her brother, Dmitri is the Pakhan and tells her to stay away from Tony because something isn't right. That is until they decide to USE him to get to Adrian and destroy his plans instead. Sasha's brothers and Boris helped raise her when at 4 years old their mother was killed in a car accident. The brothers were just teenagers at the time.
There's a lot of danger going on and continues throughout the story. Because Adrian is dangerous in his frenzied obsession with Sasha. She has another brother who is quieter but Alexi is just as lethal. Dmitri's head of security Boris just might be the most lethal of them all and totally devoted to the family. He was there to help train Sasha on self defense and how to look for danger, exit points . To basically pay attention and scope out a room or place. Even Tony is impressed with that part of her !
Tony Haugh is the tool that Adrian Belmont has paid a huge contract to get him there ! This man has been through it too. His parents were killed when he was young and at 10 years old he went to live with his crusty uncle. Then the CIA, where things that happened still give him nightmares. He's not sure he deserves love.
I loved the dual points of view, the emotions, the action, the fight scenes and even the heated scenes between the main characters. Sasha also has great family. I loved the movie bit where Sasha explains the symbolic meaning of Cranes in the movie. They mate for life. When one dies, the other one flies alone.
Great Epilogue and I liked the ending but also the information that this was a soft cliffhanger setting up the next book (4). That book sounds interesting.
