My 5 Star Review TITLED: I never saw that coming !
Reid Rifsdal is an agent from the ground up ! He's used to being alone but he's tired. Bone deep weary and he's lonely. The one perk in his life is his rambunctious, loud, lovable, disobedient Golden Retriever, Rutger. I loved that dog !! Reid has also been spending time with a lovely teacher named Silvia who has been bringing laughter and peace into his life. That gets challenged with his CIA handler OG (Oliver Grant) send him a text to meet. He soon learns that he's going to go undercover for two years or longer. He has to appear married to another agent named Ember. I felt so bad for Reid and Silvia and didn't like or trust Ember right off the bat !!! Of course, I was all invested with the teacher and although I like strong women main characters I wasn't so sure about bossy, over confident Ember.
The man that they are after, Owen McNair is one sneaky, dangerous man who has tortured and killed many assets who were sent to investigate him. He has his fingers in a lot of high level people and information. He doesn't make it easy for them but Reid and Ember are smart and as prepared as they can be. With some outside help as well. That doesn't eliminate the dangers however ! Rutger ends up being some surprising help too ! I kept thinking I just wish Deputy Ortega would just leave them alone. Too many surprise visits to their home. Reid and Ember already felt he was suspicious of them from the first time he saw them. I ended up really liking Ember. She was funny, and could be tender at time and attracted people to her with her outgoing personality. Her being outgoing and Reid being more guarded.
The suspense was off the charts great and the ending was an emotional stunner !
