BOOK REVIEW- BLOODGIFTED
Laura Dantonville is shocked to learn her strange genetic mutation, is linked to a dark family secret—a centuries-old curse that turned her Roman ancestor into a vampire. Now that she has come of age, she is the key to breaking that curse. But she’s also the prey of rogue vampires who inhabit the city’s frightening and violent underworld, as her blood gives them the ability to daywalk. For her protection she’s assigned a guardian—the handsome, sexy and dangerous Alec Munro—who wants nothing to do with her.
If not for her family, Alec Munro would never have been transformed into a vampire. He owes them nothing, yet he also knows his own fated role in breaking the curse, and the unthinkable consequences should he not accept. To the Brethren, the ending of the curse spells disaster. Among a powerful few malice grows . . .AMAZON
Quite the setting of dangerous, unearthly creatures, normal people and many, many secrets. Laura thought she was living quite the normal life, other than her strange ability to hardly look her true age. That was bizarre but she really had no idea what that was about. It is starting to cause her some probems but she wasn't sure that there was anything she could do abut it. She did know that she shared that trait with her much loved Aunt Judith. That and the lovely lavender colored eyes. She recently found herself a boyfriend, Matt; he's a cop. They have known each other about 4 months and things just keep getting better on that subject. UNTIL, everything begins to change. On her Birthday everything she knows gets turned upside down. Her aunt Judith sits her down and begins to tell her the truth of what her future holds. Laura has reached her maturity and it changes everything, she now needs the help of a protector...Alec. If you think that is all of the truth, think again. There is a whole lot more than that to tell. But not all the secrets are her Aunt's to tell. The secrets start unfolding one by one and about the time you think you have them all, another pops out. I liked both of the MC's and their separate POV's. Alec Munro was quite an interesting "person" all on his own. Aunt Judith and her husband Luc were both interesting and an important part of the story. There were many interesting secondary characters as well. The Serpent Rings were something else! So was Alec and Laura fighting their feelings towards each other.
There was quite a good world building in the book; that and a "foreign" culture and rituals. Good old fashion human emotions as well. There was a good ending but also the opening for the adventure to continue. All the enemies are taken care of but there is now one who going to be a threat as soon as he can put more of the pieces of the puzzle in place.
There was a helpful glossary of names and places at the back of the book.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
