BOOK REVIEW- RAISING THE STAKES

Book 2 in the DC Bad Boys Series Book Series
Two ex-lovers who can barely stand to be in the same room are headed to their loved ones long awaited wedding. In spite of a bitter break up three years ago they have promised to be on their best behavior. Uh-huh. Now the sparks really will fly because Terry has run into something really dangerous and has unknowingly dragged Des right into it. Vegas is a dangerous place to run into trouble but so is Des, in more ways than one.

When I picked this book to read I didn't realize until I got into it that I had read book 1 of the series (The Sin Factor). I really liked the first book, so I was excited to read this one. In Book 1- there was a fair amount time spent in setting the foundation/closenss of the men in this group. Even as I read about the romance between Sin and Avery, I was also left wondering about the the tough guy, Desmond (Des). I also wondered about Terry (Avery's sister) why she hates the sight of him, this book gets into that story. The group of friends are still in the book and they help, just not as much this time.
Terry was one really spunky, spunky gal; I liked that. That she gave Des a headache more than one, that I liked to. She totally shook him up most of the time, she was someone who really kept him off balance no matter how much he tried to ignore her. She simply was un-ignorable (is that a word?). Of course Des was no weak guy and he got his shots in too.
I enjoyed the mystery involved in the story, the mystery of will they figure who is after them, who to trust and how to make it stop. There were really 2 mysteries that they had to solve not only who is after them but also what really happened when they broke up. Both mysteries were well done, and I really enjoyed the book.
I've got to say that I wanted to knock their heads together (more than once) and just say, "Just talk to each other, tell the truth". But I also understood that Des had trust issues with women and where they came from. One person really can make a difference in romance and in the crime part of the story. Read it and you'll know what I mean.

I could hear the Lord saying, “Do not let the news, circumstances, nor the world feed your ear gate nor spirit man in this season. It is clearly the tactic of the enemy to get you off course and set you on a path not of My choosing.

Do not let this facade of sheer evil dictate how you move, see, nor release from ME. Let Me fuel you! Let Me fuel you even more from the HIGHER place in Me. What I have in store for you, in this time and season, was predestined and preordained before the foundations of the earth. (I Cor. 2:6-7, AMP)

This is how the high places must come down----FROM THE HIGHER PLACE in ME says the ALMIGHTY! (I Cor. 2:10, 12-14, AMP) Take the time and allow Holy Spirit to reconcile TRUTH beyond this world, TRUTH that I alone knew would be needed for such a time as this.

As you re-focus BEYOND the here and now, my Spirit within you will cause you to TRULY rise above this that you see! For I will give you insight into the REAL WAR, GOOD vs. evil, clashing in the heavenlies. Know that my ways are not your ways neither are my thoughts your thoughts. (Isa. 55:8-9, AMP) Re-center and focus on me, spirit to Spirit will DECREE MY plans, strategies and focus for thee! Then you will see and know that you war from a place of MY COMPLETED VICTORY!! BOOK REVIEW- Watch For The Light

A Collection of many different writers that goes daily from November 24 through January 7th.

Some of the writings come from people that I have heard of and some that I haven't. It does make for a good prep before the Christmas busyness and some would be good to share on Christmas as well. To remember the real reason of the season. This might even be a good tradition to start with older children or grandchildren. You could pull out pieces of wisdom from a chapter, ask questions or read a poem. Of course, it also makes a good gift for yourself or a good gift for others. It does have an old world flavor to it, even the front cover carries a little bit of that feel too.
This book could also be good for a relaxing, (the after care) after Christmas. Although to be fair to other readers it also had more of a study element in it too and maybe not everyone is looking for that. I guess it just depends on what you are looking for.

BOOK REVIEW- SOMETHING TO LOSE

Camden Piotrowski throws herself a bubblebath pity party when she finds her boyfriend in the arms of another woman. Suddenly her door is broken down by a really hot guy, who thinks he's rescuing her. Seth Vendetti has lost so much because of his obsession of bringing a certain criminal to justice. He has let so much go to walk this dangerous path alone; but since meeting Camden; he might just have found something he's not willing to lose.

Now I know that everyone enjoys a story when it has both MC's POV's in it and I know sometimes it can be irritating. I'm glad to say this was NOT the case in this story. I didn't find it distracting at all. There was a good balance of the sharing of the story between the two, not a lot of detail by detail repeating.

Camden and Seth really did have an unorthodox first meeting and quite the instant attraction too. I liked them both and Camden had quite the sense of humor and way of looking at things. In the beginning when she would have a naughty thought or began to be overwhelmed by her attraction to Seth she had a favorite phrase. "I'm in so much trouble"/I am in serious trouble here" And it fit really well, you got what she was thinking. At first I was a bit concerned when it showed it several more times; I was hoping that it wasn't going to be over-used. Why would I care? Because sometimes that can distract me from the story. Whew! No worries, it wasn't over-used.
One of the things that Camden laments is that she keeps trusting the wrong people and then goes on to prove it in quite a few friendships but she also shows good judgment with some pretty reliable people in her life as well.

Seth has a secret that he's hiding from Camden and the author does a pretty good job of stringing the reader along. The secret comes out at one of the worst possible moments of course, and when you think about it, that's what happens often in real life. Overall, I liked the story. It had family, friends, humor, romance and fighting against crime.
